The aftermath of Luna's berserk could only be compared to a bomb going off in the middle of a city. She targeted only vampires, but destroyed everything and anything in her way. From advertisent signs to walls and even vehicles causing damages to public and private property to be valuated at a sign Uriel considered offensive.
"I'll need my team to double check these numbers." Uriel said in an attempt to buy enough ti to run away from the city, but the always helpful dusa jumped in.
"Let see...," She grabbed the sheets of paper that held the account of everything that was destroyed and nodded a couple tis after triple checking her calculations. "If this is a faithful representation of the damages, then it's correct." She said in a brag about her ability in making calculations.
"dusa..." Nika buried her face on her palms, but dusa did not understand the reason.
"Still, why is my company being held accountable for all the damages? I'm sure everyone played a part in what happened." Uriel grunted.
"Now you're throwing others under the bus like always. I only ca to prevent things from escalating!" Sam defended himself.
"And you activated holy rank level skills inside a city, which is why you are also here." Tina said.
"That will teach you monsters to behave." Mark scoffed from his vantage point by the side of his wife and attempted to grab his wife's hands receiving a slap in the hand instead.
"Don't touch , you should be the least person in this room to speak about monsters," Tina glared at him and pointed at a chair in the table. "all of you are responsible in one way or the other about what happened. This is an inexcusable cri against our city and against humanity as a whole which is why, I'm letting you know that as of this mont you are all considered rogue hunters. There is only one way I can forgive you, but you will have to work for ." The room was silent as a grave for a few seconds, then laughter broke out and it was none other than Uriel.
"That's a funny one." Uriel finished his laughter by taking a gulp from his energy drink.
"What is so funny about being considered a villain in the eyes of society, being hunted down by powerful hunters everywhere you go and not having a place to call ho?" Tina kept a stone cold facade, though inside she was a wreck. She needed all the help she could get and while Sam and Mark were easily swayed, she knew Uriel would be a tough one.
"That's been my hunting career in a nutshell. From the ti I beca an evolved to even now, I just can't catch a break. It's always the Mapple corp, the army, this or that."
"Don't take us as fools, if the Mapple corp hunted you down you would be dead already." Mark scoffed.
"Like I care two peanuts about what you think. I'm just saying, public opinion has never been our ally to begin with and I find it funny that the worst you can do against us is sothing we've dealt with in the past." Uriel shrugged.
"That is not the worst I can do, or did you forget I still have your friend in captivity." Tina replied with confidence that faded the mont everyone's face went pale except for Uriel's who went from amused to murder in a split second.
"I will tear down this city block by block, I will destroy it so bad it could never be rebuilt and not even an archaeologist will ever find evidence it ever existed if you dare do sothing to Luna." Uriel accompanied his words with no flux energy, yet sohow it caused chills in enemies and allies alike.
"You can't do that." Tina's tone of voice was the sa as before, but her hands trembled like when she used to speak to her father.
"If you're doubting my ability to do it, then I just have to prove you wrong. But I fully intend to go through with my word if you force ."
"You shouldn't go there," Sam shook his head when speaking to Tina. "threatening a hunter's companions is not how you conduct business."
"Yet this asshole killed a quarter of my employees!" Mark whined, though the one who was more affected by this was actually the eclipse within him who had grown fond of the office gossip and those involved in it.
"You started this by breaking into Soulfire's place, stealing the artifacts he needs to do his mumbo jumbo and you even killed his employee. That was uncalled for."
"Actually, that was ." Tina admitted.
"You do know you're not making a compelling case for us to help you, right?" dusa asked Tina.
"Let's start over," Tina said as she crumbled into a chair, dispelling every illusion that could have made anyone think she was in charge. "Before our city was destroyed, there was a professor in our university that worked on the Fields of disruptions and the similitude it held with electromagnetic fields and other things I can't explain. But for security reasons I can't summon the professor in question, I'm sure you'll understand."
"Is it Professor Fermi?" dusa tilted her head.
"It sure is, and the reason she can't summon him is because he's not right in the head." Uriel shook his head.
"That is true... he's not been himself lately. His old self was eccentric, now he's... different." Tina let out a long sigh.
"I rember the experints he was conducting, but at the ti he thought it was a dead end and focused on other projects."
"Yes, but then soone brought him an important piece of equipnt, a mint condition magnetron from the old days before the arrival. By now you must certainly know that we were forced to rebuild our technology and knowledge base as a great part of it was lost when the arrival took place and that magnetron beca the corner stone of Fermi's research. At first, his research made him believe that Fields of disruption and electromagnetic pulses were similar, but thanks to that magnetron he was able to create a device that allowed him not only to disprove his own theory, but thanks to my father's project of the ultimate weapon Fermi also to stumbled upon a different type of field."
"Let guess, cryptid's FOD affect electricity in the sa form this new type of field affects a cryptid's FOD." dusa said with confidence based on her own research.
"How do you know?"
"Because we've encountered that type of field many tis in the past. It repels even the strongest cryptids, though it consus a lot of electricity." Uriel explained.
"You also knew about it!?" Tina realized then that the entire research of her father, Fermi's and all the expenses she paid for out of her own money, the city's and even her husband's were nothing but a waste of ti, but it got worse.
"Yeah, that's the consecrated ground, is it?" Sam said casually.
"That's precisely what we call it and it's present in so places that are considered holy," Uriel nodded. "I'm glad this eting did not end up being a waste of ti. At least I know now how to set Luna free by myself." Uriel said as he stood up from the chair, but was soon stopped by Tina who attempted to grab his hand.
"Wait! Now that the world knows about our advance in technology, they'll want it for themselves. Many hunters all over the world had already scheduled their trips to co here, they'll take our research, everything!"
"That's a problem, just not one of mine." Uriel shrugged.
"Sucks to be you." Sam added as he too stood up, but things changed when Tina ntioned sothing they both wanted.
"I still have Soulfire's artifacts! I can give them to you."
"I'll help." Sam said without hesitating. While so artifacts did little more than boosting a hunter's prowess, others such as the sword Mark wielded in their battle could make the difference between life or death.
"And what's stopping from taking them right now?" Uriel said.
"You are not like this, you were never like this, Uri," Tina played the emotion card. "It saddens to see you like this."
Uriel was tempted to reply snarkily, but them dusa butted in.
"We owe the city a large sum of money and you hate being in debt." She tugged on his sleeve and Uriel's expression softened imdiately.
"Release my friend, waive off the debt as off now and I'll help." Uriel said to Tina who was bordering on a ntal collapse.
"Also, get rid of my rogue hunter status before I do anything." Sam added.
"I want..." Mark started speaking, but was cut short by Tina.
"No one cares about what you want, just keep silent and nod your head to pretend you understand anything that goes on like you always do." Tina scolded and the eting was adjourned on what Uriel considered a good note.
