The three students sat dumbfounded while Uriel spoke, especially Alice. It was the first ti soone saw behind their well trained poker face but to Uriel it felt like child's play.
Her prided poker face didn't pose an obstacle to Uriel who was accustod to dealing with Luna whose poker face was so stony it would have been easy to assu that she lacked the necessary muscles to even make a gesture. Her story was also similar to dusa's which helped him see through her apparent wealth with ease.
Of all three, the easiest to read was Scoundrel as he noticed the spiteful comnt he made when Uriel arrived late at Pangeotis' class. It was obvious from his comnt that he actually wanted to learn, but soone from the slums would have had trouble learning about anthropology or archaeology since those books were really expensive.
In a sense, Uriel had a head start since he inherited Jon's books from his father who was apparently friends with him since Jon even had a picture of him in his wallet.
"That was..." Alice attempted to speak, but Uriel cut her short.
"I'm not done yet. You also wanted to sell your spot in Pangeotis' class, but now you want to stay in the course and try to make so money by finding and selling artifacts. I'm saying all this to make sure you know I'm aware of the fact that you not only lack any knowledge in Archaeology, but also that you're broke and can't pay for my services. Now I'm done."
"I could offer you my jewelry, but you would have to teach us all three for what's left of the sester." Alice broke the awkward silence that ford after Uriel finished speaking.
"You can't!" Exclaid Ashani, then hushed her voice. "The only reason why they're not bullying us is because they think you're wealthy. If you sell your jewelry they'll find out you're not and they'll make our life hell."
"A beautiful girl like you will get a lot of unwanted attention. How are you planning to defend yourself in that case?" Uriel pointed out.
"That's where I co in. It wasn't Scoundrel who saved but the other way around," Ashani said as she produced a pistol. "this is my trait, it's quite powerful as you can see."
"Put it down, you idiot." Uriel growled as he shifted his gaze from side to side. Ashani had a dark skin that sowhat reminded Uriel of Nika's which is why he called her an idiot without realizing it would upset her.
"Hey! Don't call an idiot! Using traits inside college is not forbidden." She waved her firearm carelessly.
"People won't know or care if it's your trait or not. That's a firearm not a toy and we aren't in the slums." Uriel let out.
"He's right." Alice nodded prompting Ashani to do as Uriel asked. Uriel watched as the weapon disappeared, but now that he was more experienced he also noticed how the flux energy she used to produce the revolver was reabsorbed by her trait.
It was strange to him, since the sa didn't applied to when he summoned objects from his museum. Albeit small, taking or placing back objects from his trait took a flux energy expenditure. It got Uriel to rember the ti when Professor Fermi explained him how were traits that summoned weapons were supposed to work which left him puzzled.
However, there was a more pressing issue he needed to address.
"It seems you guys need more help than you thought. If you keep going like this you won't just fail this course, you won't last two weeks in this college." Uriel passed a hand across his face as he pondered if it was worth getting involved with such idiotic people.
"I guess we have our answer." Alice stood up ready to leave.
"I didn't say I refused, just stated a fact." If only for the resemblance they held towards his own group of friends, Uriel decided he would at least give them a chance.
"Does this an you're going to help us!? But... we really can't pay." Ashani's eyes shimred, not because of her trait but because she wasn't used to people being kind to her and she couldn't keep her eyes from welling up.
"If you're thinking on doing sothing weird to them, I'll kill you." Scoundrel growled at Uriel who couldn't help but let out a chuckle.
"You're very protective of your friends, I like that," Uriel said in a chuckle that disappeared in a split second making the words that follow sink in. "but if you threaten again I'll cut your throat so fast you'll be death before finishing the sentence."
Uriel's cold eyes showed he truly ant it and the three students felt as though they just struck a deal with the devil himself. Unfortunately to them, they didn't have a clue on where to even begin studying for a course that was obviously too advanced for them and if they wanted to get their hands on so artifacts they couldn't afford to fail.
"It's too late to back down." Alice let out a sigh knowing Uriel could ask anything of them and they wouldn't be able to refuse, even if he asked for sothing unreasonable. All it took for Uriel to make his lives more miserable was to let it slip that Alice wasn't wealthy anymore.
Uriel finished his lunch in silence hoping they would try to make so conversation, but the three students now looked like scared mice in front of a cat. Even Alice couldn't muster the courage to look him in the eye again and they silently ate their als.
"Follow ." Uriel said once everyone finished and they ekly did as he requested thinking he was taking them to the library to begin a study session. Once they realized Uriel was taking them to an abandoned building, though, their deanor changed and they beca more anxious with every step they took.
