After speaking those words, it beca obvious that speaking in a random apartnt building lobby wasn't secure enough to continue that discussion and Uriel finally agreed to that man's invitation. Though, in all truth one of the reasons he agreed was because he was starving after spending so much ti in the wilderness.
They went outside where a fancy looking car was already waiting. The chauffer was a young man in business attire and sunglasses, he looked professional but not particularly strong which hinted Uriel that the man net to him didn't need any protection in his day to day activities.
"Where are you taking ? I thought we were going to have lunch." Uriel asked when he realized they went to the residential area, the wealthy part of the district he rarely visited.
"I did, didn't I?" Was all the man next to him replied.
The drive was pretty short, but Uriel couldn't tell if it was because the driver was too good or if he spaced out like usual. He tried his best to read beneath the hando man's expressions and debunk his niceness, but no matter how hard he tried, it was as though his intentions were genuine and his words truthful.
'How can this be? We're not going to a restaurant, he just lied to my face, but at the sa ti I don't see any dishonesty in his eyes. Well, if spotting liers was so easy, I guess I would have gotten caught many tis in the past.' Uriel finally arrived at the conclusion that he just found soone better at lying than himself and it hurt his pride a little.
"Co in, please, sorry for the ss." The man apologized as he opened the door to a small house.
"Is this... your house?" Uriel let out a gasp. It wasn't the opulence what took him aback, but the contrary. It was a pretty cozy ho. It lacked the rich decorations and luxury items commonly found in places where rich people lived. In fact, even though the house was on the wealthy part of the district, it had a nice garden and a backyard too, it was also pretty small for rich people's standards.
"It is, make yourself at ho while I cook."
"You... cook?"
"I did offer to treat you to lunch, didn't I?" The man made a confused expression, but the one truly confused was Uriel. He was flabbergasted beyond asure, not even when he found out the fog was a titan level cryptid did he fall into such a state of disbelief and shock.
What followed, was Uriel sitting in the couch with dead eyes and a handso man dressed in business attire and a colorful apron on top cooking for him. Ti seed to fast forward, while his mind refused to provide any answers as to what was going right in front of Uriel's eyes.
When the al was done, the man took it the at out of the oven with pink thermal gloves and placed the plate on the table. Then, he set the table himself and even gave the finishing touch by adding a flower vase in the middle.
"Lunch is served." The man proudly stated as he invited a very reluctant Uriel to have a seat with him.
"Is this poisoned? I'm warning you, If it is poisoned..."
"Relax, cooking is the closest thing I have to a religion. If you still don't trust I can try your food before you do." The man replied with a faint smile, but the situation was already too awkward for Uriel and he decided to hear him out before eating.
"You have my attention, now speak."
"I'm soulfire, as you may have guessed, I'm the eldest son of Matt Jacobs and I know you're the one responsible for Ethan's death," Soulfire calmly explained, even ater he noticed Uriel grabbing the knife on the table like a weapon. "Relax, I'm not seeking for vengeance. I know what you might think, but before continuing I need you to understand sothing.
"I always loved my brothers, always. But I also knew them well and I knew they had... personality issues. I don't know exactly what happened, but my trait allows to know when soone is dead and I get to communicate with them briefly before they pass. That's how I know that even though it was the brunette who killed him, you were the one who defeated him.
That's why I need you to kill Mark, if you were strong enough to defeat Ethan who was the strongest of us, you shouldn't have any issues doing the sa with Mark."
"You're saying you love your brothers and in the sa breath you're asking to kill Mark. How do you expect to trust you like this?"
"It's complicated. I know you used to be Miss Tina Celes boyfriend, Mark used to complain about you all the ti saying he didn't understand why would she even lay her eyes upon you, but I see it. I can see within your soul and it's... beautiful."
"Just so you know, I have a girlfriend." The cooking, the atmosphere and the handso man's deep voice was starting to get on Uriel's nerves to the point where he couldn't take it anymore and let out the first thing that ca to his mind.
"Hah! That was a nice one, but I'm afraid this is a serious matter. I believe Mark is responsible for my father's death, but that's only a small part of a political move. By killing father and marrying Miss Tina..."
"Mark is marrying Tina?" Uriel almost spat out the food he didn't realize he was eating, but even his body knew it was too delicious to waste it like that.
"I'm afraid so. It's sothing that would bring joy if I thought there was at least a small chance of her setting my brother straight, but he's been acting strange all this ti and there's sothing even more worrying. I already told you my trait allows to know when soone dies, but you need to see this." The man exited the room and ca back with a chandelier that held three candles.
"Dude, stop with the romantic gestures already!" Uriel snarled.
"You're a funny guy, I don't know why Mark hated you so much. This is my trait, each candle represents a mber of my family, can you notice sothing strange?" Uriel gazed at the chandelier that had a single lit candle, though apart from its odd shape there was nothing interesting about it.
"So, you're the last living mber of your family, what about it?" Uriel wasn't shocked to see that Mark's candle was off too, since he knew he was a vampire now.
"Now, place a hand near this candle, but not too close." Soulfire insisted and when Uriel did as he asked, he realized it was burning hot even though the fla couldn't be seen.
"Ouch!" He yelped in pain.
"Sorry about that, even if the candles are completely ordinary, the fla burning on top of them is made of my own flux energy and it can really hurt an ascended like you," Soulfire stood up and took a bandaid from his pocket. "Here, this will make it better. It has a bit of serum and it'll help you heal in no ti."
"Stop touching ! I'll be fine. I heard what you had to say and now I understand your problem. But the thing is, it's your problem and not mine."
"You still don't get it, I'm afraid. I know my little brother and under normal circumstances he shouldn't lead a hunting party, let alone the biggest technology firm in the city. But now, it seems that he's being controlled by sothing that outshadows his soul. I think he might be possessed by sothing evil, more evil than usual I an."
"So this is why you've been pretending to be nice. To convince you're a better alternative to run the Celes company than your brother!"
"No, not really. All I want is to take control of the family business, I have no interest on the Celes company whatsoever. In fact, I wouldn't even ask you to, you know, kill him if he wasn't a direct threat to my life."
Uriel pondered for a few seconds while he savored the food in front of him, it was so delicious it made a compelling case to help Soulfire, but ddling with the Jacobs was a huge ask for Uriel who suffered greatly under two of its mbers.
"I know what happened to your brother, but I doubt it has anything to do with his 'personality issues'. The reason why he's been acting weird is because he's now a human-cryptid hybrid, he's a vampire." Uriel's words had precisely the effect he thought they would and Soulfire was left in a daze. His wide open eyes, his gaping mouth and his 'stupid handso' face portrayed the shock he felt.
