After his breakfast, Uriel spent most of the day tracking the source of the post he found in the forum. Finding soone whose na or address he didn’t know was a difficult task made worse by the fact that the person lived in the slums. Luckily for him, the person behind that post wasn’t trying to hide his identity.
’My wife went missing after coming back from an incursion and the authorities won’t move a finger to find her.’
Was all the original post said and most of the comnts were among the lines of ’that sucks man’ or ’she’s not missing, she left you.’ and they weren’t helpful at all. However, what little information provided by that short post provided Uriel with enough data to go by. The woman was a hunter, married and went missing after an incursion, it was a very specific situation.
Sothing like that wouldn’t have been strange at all if she went missing during the incursion, but not after, not inside the city walls.
"Hello, I need to as you a few questions," The woman who opened the door closed it on Uriel’s face. "Hi, can you answer so... questions." The next person did too, and so on and so forth. Uriel then decided to block the door of the next apartnt before even speaking. "Good afternoon, I’d like to ask you a couple questions if that’s alright with you."
"No, please, I don’t want to have any trouble with the army."
"I’m not with the army." Read exclusive adventures at .Côm
"You’re a ranger!? No way, I’m not snitching on my son!" The woman cried as she retreated back inside.
"I forgot how wary people in the slums are about anything related with the authorities," He let out a sigh and entered the apartnt.
"Get out! Help!" The woman scread even though she knew no one would co to her rescue, but her panic disappeared once she saw the pile of money Uriel left on the table. "He lives near the synthetic food factory, he works there too and should be about to finish his shift."
Even if Uriel was able to get 11 trites a day, converting one into credits and handing it over made his wallet ache. Fortunately, he didn’t have much ti to mourn the waste of a trite because the factory was near and he was able to locate the person he was looking for.
Just when he was thinking that it was worth spending a trite in getting information and that detective work suited him well, he realized none of that was necessary.
The street leading to the synthetic food factory was filled with posters that read ’missing’ along with a picture of a woman who seed to be on her twenties, but since she was most likely the huntress in question she must have been on her thirties.
"Have you seen my wife? Hey, you! Have you seen my wife?" A man desperately asked the people passing by.
"Poor man..." A woman sighed as she continued walking.
"Hey..." Uriel said, but he was cut short by the desperate man.
"You’ve seen her!? Where is she!?" The man attempted to shake Uriel by his shoulders, but not only was Uriel too tall, his stance was firm as though he was made of steel. "Hang on, you’re a hunter..."
"Yes, I’ve been looking for you to talk about your wife."
"You’re the bastard who took her!?" The man crumbled on the spot.
"No, I’m here to help you find her." Uriel said as he extended a hand to help him stand up on his feet. If there was one thing he wanted to avoid was drawing too much attention which was the complete opposite of the man who wanted everyone to listen to him.
Convincing the desperate man that he wasn’t the woman’s affair partner and getting him to calm down was a chore, but it wasn’t the man’s fault. Sothing like that was to be expected considering that deep down he was convinced his wife left him for a hunter and how distrustful he was about them.
"So, let get this straight. You’re only here to help and you don’t even want a reward? Why should I believe you?" He gazed at Uriel with distrust.
"Hey old man, you were the one asking for help and now that soone cos, you spit on his face?" Uriel had a point and the man then realized that even if Uriel had bad intentions, there wasn’t much he could get from him. "Just tell everything you can about your wife and I’ll see what I can do."
"My wife, I don’t think she left ... It’s a possibility, but," The man hesitated for a couple seconds and then continued, now with a determined expression. "No, she didn’t leave . We have two kids and she’s only been a hunter for less than a year and isn’t making that much money."
"She could have still left you for soone else..."
"No, we put all of our savings together to get her into college so that she could get a trait without relying on any company. We’re doing the sa now, we’re really close to the amount we need for to beco a hunter and she hasn’t touched our shared bank account since she disappeared. Please, you need to do sothing.
I know sothing is off because there’s a record of her returning on the city gate and the hunters that went with her said she refused to go for drinks with them to co ho early like usual."
"Clearly, if she left with soone she would have taken the kids and the money too," Uriel muttered to himself and then asked a question. "I know this is taboo but, what’s her trait?"
"Her hunter na is Marina, she’s an evolved that can breathe under water, her physical trait is a short fin on her lower back." The man replied after hesitating for a few seconds.
With that, Uriel turned to leave as he already had an idea on where she could be and there wasn’t much ti before curfew.
