"All this incredible treasures and you pick the last one, again!?" Nika facepald with such force her forehead beca red.
"To each his own." Jon said, though he was clearly envious of Uriel's loot. While getting his hands on the heaviest artifact could be more valuable in terms of quantity, he couldn't deny the possible ground breaking discoveries that could be achieved by studying that book.
Still, he wasn't as naive as to think that just because he was in possession of the book ant he could research it on his own and he figured Uriel would eventually ask him for help.
Jon wasn't the world's leading expert on archaeology just for show. In spite of his questionable work ethic he was, indeed, as knowledgeable and capable as his reputation indicated. He was the next in line to pick an artifact and he chose a richly decorated plate, it wasn't the biggest nor the smallest artifact, but it looked just like the sort of thing rich people would spend money on.
One by one, each mber of the group picked a different object for themselves. dusa picked a fork, Sam a plate and so on, even if they didn't look like weapons anything made of orichalcum was hard enough to pierce through entity level enemies like it was butter, provided the one wielding the object had enough strength to pull such a feat.
The way back was made in a much lighter mood, not only because of their find but also because thanks to their odd weapons they were able to move much faster and were even capable of finishing so of the entity level cryptids on their way.
All their joy and excitent was shown in their faces and they were eager to go back ho, but Shaker who had remained silent most of the trip spoke out loudly.
"I know I shouldn't say this, but... I don't trust the colonel one bit. I think he might be plotting sothing."
"Of course he's plotting sothing, but who cares." Uriel said dismissively as they approached the soldiers guarding the gateway. Since so much ti had passed, so of the ones left behind were miraculously able to reunite with the colonel.
"I'm glad to see you made it back, Mister Jon." Ethan gave the closest thing to a sincere smile he was capable of making.
"It's Professor Hunter for you." Jon scoffed.
"Excuse , Professor. We've been guarding the ergency exit all this ti from various threats."
"What do you want? A dal?" Uriel sneered making Ethan grit his teeth at the insolence but he managed to control himself and continued speaking casually.
"I think we deserve a share of what you found."
"You said it yourself, we found it. According to law this belongs to us." Uriel replied.
"Why are you even speaking to ? It's a matter to be solved by the leaders of our factions."
"The only thing that needs to be decided now is who will cross the gate first," dusa butted in. "we didn't find anything that resembled an exit, which ans this gateway is the only way out."
"That's actually pretty easy, I think the leaders should be the ones to go first and clear the threats." Ethan proposed. Again, it seed logical but Uriel felt there was sothing else going on.
"I have to agree, I don't think it would be fair for the rest of us if any of our leaders stays behind." Seiren said. Although she was telling the truth because she didn't feel particularly safe near Nika or Ethan, the true reason for her agreeing to that was that she wanted to take a rest from Jon.
He was always flirting jokingly with her and she had to keep her guard up all the ti, it was even more exhausting than fighting cryptids.
"Alrighty then, don't mind if I do." Jon crossed the gateway and he vanished into thin air and Nika followed soon after but not before winking at Uriel with complicity.
When it was Ethan's turn, he walked towards the gate and turned back with his arms crossed.
"What are you doing!?" dusa shouted loudly as Shaker grabbed her from behind.
"Let her go right this instant!" Uriel commanded, though it fell on deaf ears.
"Now, now, it seems you have a choice now. You can either leave all your loot behind and cross the rainbow bridge or you can die here." Ethan said with a smug, his sharp eyes staring directly at Uriel.
"You can't do this, let go Jackson! We're friends!" dusa cried triggering Shaker's laughter.
"Friends!? How can you say that? I sacrificed myself for you and it wasn't enough for you to trust ."
"Stop pretending that it would make a difference, you've been in cahoots with that weirdo all this ti."
"And what if I was?" Shaker laughed.
"Now lower your weapons and tell your bitch to stop struggling." Ethan pointed his hands towards dusa.
"I don't mind if she struggles a bit, I like won with a little fight in them." Shaker laughed as he pressed dusa close to his hulking body without even trying to hide the fact that he was trying to cup a feel of her body.
Left with no choice, the hunters did as Ethan asked. Janett, Sam and Luna were evidently outraged, but Seiren was truly enraged.
"Just wait until Jon hears about this."
"Jon? Don't make laugh. He's under the direct command of that girl's father and guess who asked to kill her? But don't worry, if you leave all your loot behind I don't mind leaving you trapped in this forsaken place."
dusa helplessly watched as her friends dropped their loot in the ground and retreated back to the rainbow bridge onto the next island.
"Do it." Ethan nodded towards Shaker who reluctantly let go of her hostage and proceeded to place his hands on the rainbow and activated his trait. The soft vibration soon beca an earthquake and the bridge started crumbling down into pieces threatening to leave everyone stranded inside the dungeon.
