The rest of the cryptids were easily dealt with once everyone gathered near the watchtower and the rangers proceeded to recover the flux orbs that were lying in the surroundings. Although the law stated that hunters would be entitled to the flux orbs they killed, that wasn't applicable in this situation given that if it wasn't for the rangers the whole caravan would have been in danger.
Jon hurried inside the watchtower to prevent drawing any more cryptids with his imnse energy signature while the rest of the caravan remained outside basking in the sun. Even sothing as insignificant as that was a luxury for those who lived within the tall city walls.
Uriel scanned his surroundings and noticed the presence of soone he didn't expect among the soldiers that ca along.
"Shaker?"
"You're that little guy!" Shaker replied with a warm smile. He seed a lot nicer than the last ti they t. "I thought you wouldn't last this long."
"It hasn't been a stroll in the park, but I'm fine."
"Hey Shaker, how's it going?" dusa asked the huge soldier with a friendly tone of voice.
"Great, actually. I'm a lieutenant now, just like Miss Dragonfang."
"And your wife?" Although things used to be tense between them, after their incursion dusa kept in touch with him and she found out he was married and had two kids. Because of that, she was now on good terms with him and he beca a lot softer around her.
Now that the three factions were reunited outside city walls it was of the utmost importance to keep things cordial, especially considering that if a fight broke out it wouldn't be good for any of them.
Thankfully, the horde of beasts that pursued them served as a reminder that while inside the city they belonged opposing interests and grudges to hold, out in the wilderness they were all 'team humanity' and their very survival was on the line.
"Uri, you made it! I was so worried about you!" Tina ran towards him so fast it seed like she wanted to pounce on him, but she was greeted with the cold glare of dusa.

"Alright, this is my queue." Shaker said as he retreated leaving dusa, Tina and Uriel as the last hunters outside the outpost.
"Is that really the sa guy we knew?" Uriel asked confounded. Although he looked the sa, maybe a bit more muscular, his character seed to be completely different.
"He was under a lot of pressure when we t him and he worked hard to get where he is. Now that life has treated him better he beca softer." dusa explained.
Tina felt completely left out but she couldn't afford to upset dusa any more than she already had. She sohow needed to get closer to her, but just thinking about giving up on Uriel crushed her. She, herself, didn't know how she felt about him, the only thing she knew was that as soon as she gave up on him the arranged marriage with Ethan would beco a reality on her mind.
When Uriel stepped inside the watchtower she saw Nika goofing around locking arms with Charlie, each with a beer on hand. Sothing about their happiness irked him and his mood beca sour.
He couldn't fathom why did he feel that way because his life had never been better. He was an ascended, about to go on a mission to explore a dungeon that would further his research on the ancient civilization and he was even the CEO of his brand new company. Following dusa's reasoning he should beco softer, but the more he witnessed other people's happiness the more annoyed he beca.
"It's a mind attack." Seiren startled Uriel by speaking to him from behind. I bet you felt it the last ti you went into the lost city, but now its radius has spread. That's one of the reasons why we're staying at the outpost today."
"A mind Attack?" dusa asked.
"Forget about that, what are the other reasons?"
"You can't forget about it, that's actually the only way to fight it. Once you beco aware of a mind attack you can fight it back."
dusa was sent into her own thoughts as she rembered how she vented at Luna the last ti they ca to the lost city and she wondered whether her odd behavior was related to it.
The watchtower suffered a considerable amount of attacks that night, but the place was crowding with hunters, soldiers and rangers which made things a lot easier and allowed those who were going to take part in the exploration a lot easier.
Uriel was forced to share a room with Janett and Nika because the watchtower wasn't spacious enough to accommodate so many people, sothing he deeply lanted. Janett was startled after every gunshot and Nika was so drunk she snored loudly while scratching her belly.
In spite of what it seed, It was actually the calm before the storm because the closer they got to the lost city, the stronger the cryptids would get.
The next morning they were woken up by the sound of heavy artillery and flak cannons being fired and Uriel hurried outside to confirm it was nothing short of a warzone. The reason for this was a small vehicle heading towards the watchtower at high speed, followed by a massive horde of beast rank cryptids.
The engine roared as Sam throttled up to the max speed the bike could endure, in fact, there was already so smoke coming out of it. Right behind him on the passenger seat there was a small girl, seemingly a child, clinging to his waist.
"My baby!" Nika cried, though Uriel couldn't tell if she referred to Luna or the bike Sam borrowed.
Uriel didn't waste any ti and took out his revolver and took a stance. He knew his aim wasn't that reliable, but he felt more confident given the amount of enemies that were drawing closer with each second.
He started gunning them down with his magnum and soon Nika joined in with a handgun, then a booming sound next to them announced the presence of Charlie.
"That's a big gun you got there kid!" Charlie joked.
"Leave him alone, he's all mine!" Nika scolded and then dusa butted in.
"Keep firing you moron! They're going to get him!"
Although it was, indeed, a difficult situation Sam turned out to be a much better driver than Nika. He swiftly balanced the weight of the bike and took last second turns to confuse the cryptids, he also made the most of the small slopes he found and jumped in the air at every occasion he could and soon, the bike drifted and both Sam and Luna jumped out.
"You guys made it!" Uriel smiled at Sam with awe. He was nothing like the cowardly student he t during their first incursion, or so he thought.
"I almost shit my pants like three tis on the way here, all because of this moron who couldn't be bothered to check her phone!" Sam dropped the helt and angrily stord inside the watchtower.
