Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Lin Qi’s Broadcast and Rescue Operation
He entered the new room, which wasn’t much different from the last one.
’An extra layer of security is always reassuring.’
He glanced at the time. Only three minutes remained until the Door’s cooldown was over.
He went into the washroom and waited quietly.
...
Amid a swirl of light and shadow, Lin Qi passed through the endless darkness and arrived in the Doomsday World.
Lin Qi stood inside a restroom in the Club Activity Building. Beside him lay his clothes, still warm as if he had just taken them off a second before.
Considering the flow of time in the Doomsday World, he had indeed just taken them off.
He put on the clothes emblazoned with "Mo University Robot Fighting."
Lin Qi walked out of the restroom and went to the experimental workshop where he had previously assembled the M-Class Mecha.
Xia Chu was in the small warehouse next door, clearing out a space to use as a temporary rest area.
Lin Qi, on the other hand, picked up more components and began to assemble them.
The device Lin Qi was assembling this time wasn’t complicated. If Xia Chu had been there, she would have recognized it at a glance: a radio signal transmitter.
Compared to a traditional radio transmitter, Lin Qi’s version was an improved model incorporating concepts from the Cyber World.
Its power output was extremely high.
Previously, Lin Qi had used a collection robot on the rooftop to analyze the various signals in the Doomsday World. He had concluded that the signals were suffering from severe interference, which was the cause of the communications blackout.
But at the same time, he had also concluded that a signal, if strong enough, could indeed be broadcast within a very limited range.
Lin Qi’s goal was to broadcast a radio signal across the entire Mo University Campus.
"Lin Qi, is that a radio?"
After tidying up the small warehouse, Xia Chu came up behind Lin Qi, intending to ask him to take a break. That’s when she saw the radio equipment.
"Yeah. We can’t rendezvous with the rescue teams for the time being, and the other students at Mo University won’t be rescued anytime soon either."
"I’m planning to gather the survivors, build a temporary base inside Mo University, and establish an industrial system."
Lin Qi’s idea was simple. He wasn’t trying to become a king or conquer anything. He just needed enough survivors, armed with technology from the Cyber World, to grow their strength as quickly as possible in this Doomsday World.
Only with a large enough group would Lin Qi be able to more easily collect Extraordinary Items and even dig up the truth behind the doomsday outbreak.
His intuition told him that the truth of the apocalypse was not simple. It likely involved the Extraordinary, and a very high level of it at that.
The Red Moon in the sky alone was enough for Lin Qi to arrive at this speculation.
Perhaps this world had no Extraordinaries before, but its Extraordinary elements far surpassed those of the Cyber World.
Xia Chu agreed with his idea. "That’s a good thing."
Many days had passed since the start of the apocalypse. Though Xia Chu had Lin Qi for company, she always felt a sense of loneliness.
Her classmates and teachers from before, even her parents thousands of miles away...
Suppressing her emotions and trying not to think about them didn’t mean they weren’t there.
It was just that the reality of the apocalypse didn’t permit Xia Chu to be overly sentimental.
Lin Qi completed the final assembly and plugged the power cord into a wall socket.
’Might as well save what we can, since the power hasn’t gone out yet.’
He set the radio to broadcast in a loop across various emergency frequencies. Lin Qi believed that any Mo University survivors who had made it this far couldn’t be so foolish as to not have a radio turned on.
...
Mo University. Men’s Dormitory, Building 12, top floor.
Nine survivors were gathered in a single dorm room.
"That Mecha is back again. It seems the situation outside isn’t good. That genius from the mechanical engineering department probably didn’t find a rescue team."
"The radio has been silent for a long time. I don’t know if the signal interference has gotten stronger or if the rescue team has already..."
"Our supplies are enough to last about another 20 days. We’ll wait one more week. If there’s no rescue, we’ll need to take our supplies and save ourselves."
The young men sat around in the darkness, discussing the situation.
For the time being, their supplies were relatively abundant.
At the very beginning of the apocalypse, they had gathered together and, following instructions from an official radio broadcast, cleared the Zombies out of the building.
In a corner of the dorm, there was even a pile of harvested Crimson Crystal Stones that they had yet to absorb.
"But if the rescue teams are wiped out, how are we supposed to save ourselves?"
Someone posed the question, adding a touch of despair to the darkness.
"By relying on the Crimson Crystal Stones, our bodies will grow stronger. In about another week, we should be able to absorb most of these Crystal Stones."
"When the time comes, we can use large signs to communicate with other survivors. If we gather together, several hundred physically enhanced survivors will be a force to be reckoned with."
It seemed hope still existed.
But...
"What about the monster downstairs? How do we deal with it? That thing is too fast. Even if all nine of us rushed it at once, we’d be no match for it."
There’s always someone who has to throw cold water on things, even when it’s just a dose of harsh reality.
"Why do you have to be so negative?"
An argument seemed about to erupt.
Just then, a crackling, static sound broke the silence.
The radio was picking up a new signal.
It wasn’t just the survivors gathered in this one dorm room.
In every building at Mo University, in every pocket of survivors...
In men’s dorms, women’s dorms, faculty apartments, and even among the security guards gathered in one of the academic buildings...
Wherever anyone had attempted to survive and assembled a radio, this sound of hope rang out.
"This is the Mo University Club Activity Building, Iron Man Club. This is survivor Lin Qi. First, a greeting to all survivors of Mo University."
"I’m asking all survivors within the Mo University campus to hang a conspicuous marker in a prominent location. I will begin a rescue operation by Mecha at daybreak."
"Our temporary base of operations is the Club Activity Building."
"Additionally, after I complete the area rescue, I will leave behind high-power wireless communication equipment at a designated location, with enough range to cover the Mo University campus."
"The rescue operation will last for 48 hours."
"If anyone is missed during the initial rescue, please go to the designated location after 48 hours to acquire the equipment and contact the survivor base."
"Secondary rescue efforts will continue."
Lin Qi’s voice spread across the entire Mo University Campus via the high-power radio broadcast.
The survivors closer to the Club Activity Building all turned their gazes toward the Mecha standing tall beside it.
A wave of hope spread throughout the area covered by the radio signal.
As for the survivors farther away, who hadn’t seen the Mecha in action, doubts began to surface.
’Did I hear that right?’
’A Mecha?’
’Are our Mo University students really that incredible?’
’The Iron Man Club?’
’I don’t really remember a club like that.’
’The Mo University Robot Fighting team is pretty famous, though.’
’Lin Qi must be a student from Mo University’s mechanical engineering department.’
Some were doubtful, others found it hard to believe.
But not a single survivor would pass up any chance of being rescued.
They all sprang into action, using the cover of night to set up more conspicuous markers outside their survival points.
When the night receded and sunlight illuminated the Mo University Campus, all the survivor enclaves were revealed.
There were nearly a hundred in total!
