Chapter 6: Cruel Reality! Appearing to Save the Day! Accepting a Disciple!

Yu Cang stared coldly at the people below.

He didn’t say anything and allowed the chaos to gradually spread.

It was only when everyone who wished to complain had spoken up and demanded that the rules be changed immediately that he finally spoke up.

A sneer appeared on his face. His aura erupted and descended upon them, causing everyone’s knees to weaken.

"Where do you think that you are? Do you think this is your family?"

"No! This is the Jade Pure Sect!"

"We’re already doing you a favor by allowing you to join the Sect! You now dare to make demands?"

His arrogant words and overbearing attitude made the dissatisfaction of the cultivators even more intense. The eyes of some became red, and they looked ready to shout.

However, Yu Cang didn’t let them do so.

"Those who previously complained, come out! You can return to wherever you came from!"

"The Jade Pure Sect does not need disciples of your kind!" he said coldly, and several colossal hands materialized in the air.

They scooped up the young men and women who had previously complained and, together with their guardians, tossed them out of the arena and the Jade Pure Sect as a whole.

Yu Cang didn’t even spare them a glance. He looked at those remaining with an aloof gaze.

"This is your first lesson! If you wish to survive in the Jade Pure Sect, you have to learn to respect your superior!"

"Talent is just that—talent! Which Peak Master was not once a genius of their generation? You think that you can defy the Jade Pure Sect’s rules just because of your little talent?!"

No one dared to argue anymore.

The sorrowful cries of the people who had just been thrown away were still fresh in their minds.

Moreover, as they turned around and witnessed these people running back and begging for forgiveness, only to be turned away, they felt the cruelty of the cultivation world even more intensely.

"Now, we shall continue." Yu Cang’s voice cut through the chilling silence as he resumed listing their names.

The remaining youths realized that their fate was no longer in their own hands.

They could only listen attentively, worried that they would not be selected and would have to return home.

When Yu Cang stopped speaking, and no more names were called, the expressions of the disciples who had not been selected turned desolate.

If it were before the last sequence, they might have knelt and begged Yu Cang to help them.

However, having witnessed the previous scene, they could only conceal their thoughts and collapse silently to the ground.

"No! How is this possible? The Jade Pure Sect must have made a mistake!"

"My daughter is a genius! How could she not be selected?"

A middle-aged man looked inconspicuous among the crowd, and his mutterings were ignored by everyone.

As he stared at his cute daughter, who looked calm but whose nails dug deep into her palms and caused them to bleed, he had the urge to try to fight for a spot for her.

But before he could do so, Huo Ling’er had already spoken up.

"Father... Don’t worry," she said with a fragile smile.

"I don’t care if I join the Sect or not."

"With the support of our Huo family, I can still become a great cultivator. Perhaps I can even make the Jade Pure Sect regret today’s decision," she comforted him and took his hand before she guided him out of the arena.

Subconsciously, she couldn’t help but turn around and stare at the disciples whose names had been called out before.

Their Peak Masters had unknowingly appeared and were taking them away, leading them to their respective Peaks.

Huo Ling’er noticed a few familiar people standing among them.

Some whom she had met and spoken to during the ceremony, and others who came from the same city as her.

Her relationship with them was good.

Yet, she knew that this would not be the case if they ever met in the future.

From now on, they would exist in two different worlds!

These people would become disciples of the Jade Pure Sect and follow the immortals, while she would wither away in a small city for the rest of her life!

Huo Ling’er raised her hand and used her sleeve to wipe her tears, while forcing a smile on her face.

--

Chen Xuan looked at the gathered disciples with a relieved smile.

Although these young men and women looked mediocre in the eyes of the other Peak Masters and experts, he knew their potential full well.

They all had the chance to reach the Core Formation realm if nurtured well.

With adequate luck and opportunities, there might be some among them who could break through to Nascent Soul.

"Just the Insight Eye has granted me such a massive advantage."

"Yet, this is only the ’starter pack’ given by the System. I wonder how great the rewards will be if I truly accept a disciple." Chen Xuan thought.

His attention shifted towards the group departing from the arena.

Most of them looked distraught and had to be carried away by their guardians.

There were only two people who did the exact opposite.

A pair of father and daughter held hands, yet surprisingly, it was the latter who attempted to comfort her father and lead him away.

Chen Xuan’s eyes stayed on this image for quite a while, and he seemed to be making a decision.

A few seconds later, he let out a sigh and shook his head before moving.

His figure transformed into a light and shot forward.

Under the astonished gazes of the departing cultivators, he appeared amidst the group.

The eyes of some of them lit up, wondering whether the previous scene had been a prank and occurred just to test their character.

Unfortunately, Chen Xuan’s eyes never met theirs.

They remained focused on the red-haired woman as he softly landed in front of her.

Huo Ling’er was shocked when she sensed someone blocking their path and almost stumbled back.

However, as she caught a glimpse of Chen Xuan’s white robe and the intricate pattern on the left side of his chest, she recognized that this man was a Peak Master of the Jade Pure Sect.

Though she didn’t understand why he blocked her way, she still bowed respectfully while the hand holding her father tightened.

In response, Chen Xuan gestured for her to get up.

"Get up! There’s no need for any formalities," he said, and his gaze grew more profound.

"I attended today’s Disciple Ceremony intending to find a disciple for myself. However, my opinion is different from the other Peak Masters."

"I don’t value a person’s talent, but their personality and devotion to the Dao."

"No one caught my eye before. But your earlier behavior was exactly what I was seeking."

"Although you’re desperate, you still have a heart devoted to cultivation. Although you’re saddened, you’re still willing to hide your worries to support your father."

Chen Xuan’s voice seemed to carry a strange power. Coupled with his handsome appearance and extraordinary bearing, Huo Ling’er found herself mesmerized.

Still, she didn’t really understand what he was trying to imply.

It was only when his next words fell, and his meaning became explicit, that she finally understood.

"Now, I’m asking you: do you wish to become my disciple?"
