Chapter 25: Qian Lingxue! Jade Pure Sutra! Start!
"I heard that the sect accepted many outstanding disciples this year. Senior Sister mentioned there are several Spirit Bodies among them."
"Heh, those are just rumors. Who knows the truth and who is merely bragging? Let’s wait and see."
A group of older disciples streaked through the sect, rapidly approaching the arena where the competition would be held.
Their surroundings were empty at first, but increasingly more people appeared as they drew closer.
By the time they landed, their view was soon filled with disciples.
Most walked on the ground, while only a small number flew in the air and soared toward the upper part of the arena.
Just as the group was preparing to enter the arena and take their seats, a white light suddenly shot over their heads.
It followed a different trajectory from the other flying figures, heading straight for the central seating area.
"What happened? Where is this Elder going?" A naive-looking disciple watched the light disappear, only to be smacked on the shoulder by his Senior Brother.
"Idiot! Didn’t you notice the emblem on their robe? That’s a Peak Master!"
--
"Who do you think will win this year’s competition? I think that kid with a Sword Spirit Body has a strong chance."
"Mu Chen is also a favorite. Though many underestimate the Alchemy Peak, we know just how terrifying those pill refiners can be when given time to prepare."
"My bet is on Xiao Huo! Peak Master Lan has a keen eye! To take him in as his disciple, this kid must be extraordinary!"
As soon as the white light—or rather, Chen Xuan—entered the room, he heard several voices commenting casually, all belonging to the Peak Masters.
They remained calm and showed no sense of urgency for the competition to commence.
Clearly, they didn’t take this event seriously. They looked more like watchers of a reality show who were picking out their favorite star rather than dignified experts.
"Junior Brother Chen, come here."
Just as he was about to greet them, Tang Yuechen suddenly spoke up and gestured for him to sit beside her.
Chen Xuan did not rush. He turned and glanced at the Sect Leader.
Only after receiving a subtle nod did he sit down, realizing that this seat was arranged by the sect, rather than Tang Yuechen’s whim.
As he sat, his gaze drifted across the room, passing over the Peak Masters and finally settling on Tang Yuechen.
"How come Senior Sister Tang has the time to attend the competition? I thought you always hated such noisy events."
Chen Xuan was truly puzzled.
Tang Yuechen was like him before the System awakened.
Besides bullying those old fellows at the Weapon Peak, she seldom interacted with other members of the sect, mostly sending other Elders in her stead.
This included the recent Disciple Ceremony.
Tang Yuechen’s demeanor was different from the one she showed while the two were alone.
Her face remained cold, barely having a faint smile, and she spoke clearly.
"My subordinates said that several talents have been admitted to the sect."
"Weapon Peak is currently lacking in young disciples. This competition will serve as a test. Those from Weapon Peak who perform well will be nurtured in the future."
The moment her words fell, before Chen Xuan could reply, a discordant voice echoed, cutting him off.
"Junior Sister Tang is wise," a middle-aged man interjected.
"As leaders of the sect, we should place its future above all else when making decisions," he said, his gaze sweeping over Chen Xuan and the Sect Leader.
"We shouldn’t be like certain individuals who only enjoy the benefits of their position but neglect their responsibilities. In my opinion, such people have no business becoming Peak Masters, let alone leaders!"
The man’s voice was thunderous, drowning out the surrounding chatter.
Every Peak Master ceased their conversations and turned their attention to him.
They glanced between the middle-aged man and the Sect Leader from the corner of their eyes, their expressions shifting subtly.
Some raised their eyebrows and seemed ready to intervene, while others looked ready to see a joke.
Though he was included in the list of the "irresponsible" people, few people paid attention to Chen Xuan.
He was, of course, quite happy to see this.
’It seems that Senior Sister Tang’s words were not baseless. Lan Lanyue really is determined to confront the Sect Leader.’
Clearly, his recent breakthrough had filled him with confidence. He believed that he could gain full authority over the Jade Pure Sect.
’Unfortunately...’ Chen Xuan shook his head, knowing that his struggles were meaningless.
The dazzling panel floating in his field of vision made the situation clear.
...
[Name: Qian Lingxue]
[Physique: Illusion Spirit Body (Ultimate-Grade)]
[Cultivation: Nascent Soul (Peak) (Half-Step Soul Formation)]
[Technique: Jade Pure Sutra (12th Level)]
[Talent Rating: 6 Stars]
[Evaluation: The other party has a chance of transcending several tribulations. Though her Physique is lacking, the Host is advised to accept them as their disciple!]
...
Chen Xuan ignored the evaluation of the System.
However, the rest of the information was enough to astonish him.
Ultimate-Grade Spirit Body. Half-Step Soul Formation. Jade Pure Art.
Each of these was shocking on its own.
The value of the first two was obvious, representing the Sect Leader’s potential and her strength.
While the third one was more obscure, Chen Xuan understood its significance.
Rumor had it that the founder of the Jade Pure Sect was a rogue cultivator who happened to obtain the inheritance of a fallen Immortal.
Because of this rumor, people suspected that the techniques practiced by the current peaks were all part of a greater inheritance.
If someone could master and combine them all, they would be able to obtain a complete immortal technique.
As for the name of this technique? It was the Jade Pure Sutra.
Chen Xuan couldn’t be sure if the Sect Leader’s Jade Pure Sutra was the rumored technique or how she had managed to achieve such an impossible feat.
But just based on what this name represented, he knew that it must be far more powerful than the Yin Yang Technique he was practicing.
Coupled with Qian Lingxue’s cultivation...
’I’m afraid that the Sect Leader can already fight against Soul Formation cultivators. If she manages to break through further, even the ancestors will be wary of her.’
Though he had checked her panel in the past, Chen Xuan was still astonished. He never expected that the low-key Sect Leader was actually so deeply hidden.
Of course, he had no plans of exposing her. For him, this was a good thing.
Qian Lingxue had always taken good care of him, even after Mu Xuanyin’s disappearance.
The stronger Qian Lingxue became, the better it was for him.
Compared to the reckless and brutish Lan Lanyue, Chen Xuan much preferred this kind and gentle Senior Sister.
No one knew what was on Chen Xuan’s mind, nor that his thoughts had gone astray.
Faced with Lan Lanyue’s provocation, Qian Lingxue remained silent.
She ignored him as if he were air, her lips curving into a faint smile. She waved her hand and pointed toward the arena below.
"The disciples are here. It’s time for the competition to begin!"
"Let’s see... Will there be any surprises this year?"
