Chapter 23: Huo Ling’er’s Astonishment! Xiao Huo’s Secret Background!

Shortly after, the door of the nearby room creaked, and Huo Ling’er walked out.

Refining the magic weapon had gone as smoothly as expected, taking only a few minutes.

Yet, her earlier excitement had dampened, and her anticipation had vanished.

"Master, is this the magic treasure you so carefully prepared for me?" Her voice was strained through gritted teeth as she struggled to move toward Chen Xuan.

Each step landed with a heavy thump, making the walls tremble.

Strands of white and black fur fell from her body, making the room look as if it had been attacked by a swarm of cats.

Chen Xuan found it difficult to keep a straight face.

He watched with twitching lips as his disciple struggled to walk, as if she were learning to do so for the very first time.

His eyes landed on her body, and he admired it.

Her soft curves, her flexible arms, and the pair of small, fuzzy ears on her head caught his attention.

Coupled with the white and black fur covering most of her body, Huo Ling’er’s earlier graceful appearance had vanished, replaced by extreme cuteness.

If someone did not know any better, they would think that a wild animal had escaped from the forest.

Only after they took a closer look would they realize that it was actually a human cosplaying as a panda!

The costume was a perfect fit. It was not large enough to make Huo Ling’er look odd, but tailored in a way that made her cute instead.

Seeing her struggle to move and the pout on her face grow ever more obvious, Chen Xuan coughed awkwardly to stifle his laughter.

He didn’t let her voice her complaints but explained sternly.

"Cultivators don’t care about external appearances. Although this look might be... a little unconventional, it’s absolutely worth it," he comforted her.

"You don’t know how lucky you are. This is a magic weapon I unearthed in the ruins of the First Legendary Beast Sect."

"You should have already sensed its functions. They are perfect for the Vulcan Immortal Scripture."

Although Huo Ling’er strongly doubted the first part of his words, she had to agree with the latter.

She had already learned of the magic weapon’s functions when she left her mark on it.

Though this magic weapon was not a sword or a shield but a panda costume, its value remained the same.

This was the supreme defensive artifact sought by all cultivators!

While wearing it, one could transfer their injuries onto it, allowing them to recover instantaneously.

Huo Ling’er didn’t know the exact limit of this weapon, but she guessed that it would retain this function even against Foundation Establishment cultivators.

Chen Xuan was right.

Such a treasure truly suited her needs and was even more useful than a shield, which could nullify incoming damage.

After all, the Vulcan Immortal Scripture could help her unleash her potential while experiencing life-and-death battles.

Only by constantly being on the verge of death could she make rapid progress.

This weapon, or rather costume, that could keep her safe while retaining the tempering effect, was exactly what she needed.

’But... is it really a coincidence?’

’This magic weapon seems made for cultivators practicing the Vulcan Immortal Scripture. Furthermore, the costume itself is my size.’

’Did Master really unearth it from somewhere?’ Huo Ling’er wondered secretly.

But soon, she shook her head with shame.

’No! Master is a mighty cultivator. He would gain nothing by doing this.’

’It couldn’t be that he simply wants to play a prank on me, right?’ she questioned, becoming even more certain that this was all a coincidence.

Chen Xuan did not know Huo Ling’er’s complicated thoughts.

As he watched the cute "panda" in front of him shake its head and its ears sway back and forth, he couldn’t help but feel that everything was worth it!

To be able to see such a scene, it was worth risking his life and visiting Tang Yuechen!

Secretly, he took an Image Capturing Stone out and took a few photos of this scene. In the years to come, this would become a great way to tease his disciple.

--

Chen Xuan was having the time of his life in the Yin Yang Peak, at the expense of Huo Ling’er’s future dignity.

Meanwhile, in another, more populous Peak, a young man was equally as happy.

Xiao Huo stood silently beneath a roaring waterfall, letting its overwhelming power strike directly at his body.

He didn’t lose his footing. Instead, the weight of the waterfall tempered his body bit by bit, making his aura increasingly powerful.

Suddenly, a click echoed.

Xiao Huo’s skin shone with a bronze hue. A smile emerged on his lips as he stepped out of the range of the waterfall.

Clenching his fists and feeling his soaring power, he couldn’t help but be filled with confidence.

"Huo Ling’er, you thought that you could stop me by making your trash of a Master cripple me?"

"Hahaha! How could you understand my, Xiao Huo’s, talents?"

"When the competition comes, I will teach you that what doesn’t kill me will only make me stronger!" he laughed wildly and howled towards the sky.

Just as he was about to continue his tempering, his finger lit up.

A ripple flashed across his ring, and a white, semi-transparent silhouette emerged.

It was a woman.

With long flowing hair and an ethereal aura accompanying her, she looked more like an immortal than every other person Xiao Huo had seen.

This included his Master, Peak Master Lan, and even the Sect Leader, whom he had once glimpsed from afar.

Xiao Huo’s expression sobered. His overbearing demeanor instantly vanished, and he knelt on the ground before kowtowing.

"It seems that the method I gave you is good," the woman said, "Not only did you expel that harmful energy, but you took the opportunity to achieve a breakthrough."

The lips of the woman curved upwards, causing the world around her to brighten as if resonating with her mood.

Even the well-concealed trace of unwillingness in the depths of Xiao Huo’s eyes faded away.

"Master! It’s all because of your guidance!"

"If it wasn’t because of you, I would never be who I am today." Xiao Huo kowtowed with fealty, slamming his forehead onto the ground.

The woman nodded with satisfaction upon seeing this.

She felt fortunate to have encountered such a loyal youth in her current state. Otherwise, her end would have been miserable if she fell into the hands of a scoundrel.

"Get up," she gestured, "Your breakthrough is indeed a joyous event. However, I hope you didn’t forget to practice your alchemy skills."

"Come on. Let me take a look at your progress."

Xiao Huo acted quickly. He took an alchemy furnace out, tossed in the materials, and manipulated the flames to refine the elixir.

His movements were precise, and he could very well be mistaken for a disciple of the Alchemy Peak.

In fact, his achievements were already beyond ordinary disciples and nearly reached the level of the sect’s Elders.

Xiao Huo did not show any pride, though. He remained focused on the task, only catching a glimpse of his Master from the corner of his eye.

Secretly, he focused on a certain part of hers and swallowed hard, his mind clouded with greed and desire. Several plans emerged in his mind.

’Soon... Soon...’

’It’s only a matter of time...’
