Capítulo 977: A worthy…

Wu Long’s gaze, along with the gazes of everyone in the arena, was imdiately attracted to the large bronze bell with carvings and characters, shimring with imnse amounts of pulsating Spiritual Qi that sent formless ripples through the entire fighting pit.

The audience beca quiet all of a sudden.

At the sa ti, a loud cheer ca from the Disciples of the Lant Scripture Sect, and contrasting it, a sour look appeared on the faces of the mbers of the Blood Skull Cult, their Elder in particular seeming uncomfortable seeing the painfully familiar treasure.

The comntator’s voice beca serious, “It looks like we are about to witness the culmination of this fight, Fellow Daoists. By the looks of it, this is the Righteous Warrior’s signature Spiritual Treasure… his trump card. And a powerful one at that. Just from the fact he took it out, it ans he acknowledges our Challenger as a worthy opponent and real threat…”

The Elder was pleased with this reaction, especially with the way the masked man he fought was looking at the bell with what the Elder believed was awe and fear.

anwhile,

“A worthy present for Cui’er”, Wu Long mumbled in a rather delighted voice.

His gaze then went down to the gloating face of the Elder.

The latter chuckled, “What? No more expensive toys? Didn’t expect this, did you?”

“I did”, Wu Long moved his hand, and tal spikes shot out from beneath the Elder’s feet.

“What the?!”, the Elder managed to dodge, but more spikes continued to target him from beneath as he retreated in quick succession until he was right in the center of the circular fighting pit.

It happened so quick neither the audience, nor the comntator had ti to react.

And then he saw that all around him, tal bits and parts were rising into the air from the dust on the arena floor, molding into tall and thin columns.

“Not good!”, the Elder imdiately understood everything and panicked, his hands rushing to make hand seals, but the ti it took him to gather enough Profound Qi and weave incantations with hand seals, Wu Long completed the encirclent.

There were now eight big and tall tal pillars, followed by rows of small stick-like tal bars that stood upright all around, arranged in so sort of specific way.

“T-The Great Wail of Lant Art!!!”, the Elder’s panicked voice resounded as he completed the final hand seal while soaked in sweat, and the bell above his head rang with a deep, and powerful, yet sohow sorrowful, even mourning sound, a visible sphere-shaped wave packed with imnse Profound Qi, the destructive power of which sent shivers down the spines of nearly everyone present, as the Elder shouted, “Cleanse the world with the beauty of Heavenly Sound!”

This line, spoken clearly out of habit, lacked the solemnity and tranquility it likely had in the past. One could imagine this Elder speaking it with an arrogant gaze of a saint admonishing the guilty of their cris. Now, it itself sounded more like a pitiful wail of a desperate man.

Almost at the sa mont that the bell sound rang, Wu Long flicked his finger on the small tal bar closest to him, as his other hand ford a single seal.

Glowing characters of Spiritual Qi flowed in between the tal pillars as vibrations on one spread out to the nearest one in a chain reaction, connecting them into one unified formation as multiple talismans beca visible in the air.

And thus, the destructive wave that only just began expanding started dissipating, and by the ti it reached Wu Long at the outer ring of tal pillars beca a gentle breeze that flapped his clothes and hair.

Silence.

Deafening silence, in which one would be able to hear the sound of a pin drop on the floor of the fighting pit, is what followed that mont.

In this silence, one could hear the rugged breathing of the Elder whose whole upper body was heaving as he stood hunched over, no longer appearing arrogant, or sanctimonious, the bell above his head – having expended all the accumulated Spiritual Qi – lost its luster and powerful presence.

His face was a mask of shock, disbelief and fear. He looked at Wu Long like he saw so kind of terrifying monster.

And then, a deafening roar shuddered the entire underground arena as the crowd exploded into a frenzy. The comntator began frantically shouting sothing, basically throwing himself out of the booth he was in and only barely held back by soone within. The whole place descended into utter chaos.

And amid everything, the Elder could only muster in a weak voice, “H-How?”

“We were a bad match, you knew that the mont you saw manipulating tal, didn’t you?”, Wu Long spoke as he floated forward with both hands leisurely behind his back, slowly passing in between the tal pillars he made, “Only you thought you were a bad match for , not the other way around”

He raised one of his hands and one of his Hearts of Iron left the rotating trajectory behind him to float on top of his open palm, extracting a few tal spheres from within that began forming a cage of disconnected smaller spheres around the artifact.

“tal is certainly affected by sound more than most other elents, you were right in assuming that was your advantage”, he proceeded to tap one of the small balls caging the Heart of Iron, which sent a ripple through the rest as they vibrated in resonance, “It was the subtle Sound Qi in every attack you sent out that made it very hard for to defend against, as it disrupted my tal Qi, and it is also what made lose control of a portion of tal you cut…”

He then chuckled, speaking as if to himself, “Heh, believe it or not I had trouble figuring out how to do stuff even without your ddling, so at one point you did manage to almost completely disrupt . Proves the point that even if I know the theory perfectly, and it all works in my head, my lack of hands-on practical experience was still very much a factor…”

He stopped a bit outside the periter ford by the eight biggest tal pillars, the focus of his attention returning to the Elder, “But unlike you, I picked a fight knowing you were a Sound Qi user, did you think no one would notice the round bells inside the sleeves of your Sect’s robe if the sound they made was below that which humans hear? Sothing all of your Disciples also have in their sleeves?”

The Elder gulped as he listened to him. He didn’t dare make a move because he knew he was still trapped by the formation of tal pillars which could be activated at any mont. He also knew he was not fast enough to do anything at this distance.

“tal is certainly affected by Sound Qi, but it can also be used to trap it, so the relationship goes both ways”, Wu Long finished explaining. By this ti their conversation attracted attention so it once again beca quiet in the arena.

“You… you have to let go…”, the Elder’s lips were dry, which made him lick them, “I-… I am an Elder of the Lant Scripture Sect… you can’t kill ”

This statent sent a ripple through the entire arena as laughter and ridicule showered the Elder, with the comntator informing him that this was the Death Arena.

Ignoring all the noise, Wu Long replied, “Yes… that’s it, the Lant Scripture… I assu that as the nasake of the Sect, it is the core Cultivation Technique you practice that, evidently, centers around Sound Qi… As it happens, while fighting you I beca quite interested in this Lant Scripture, so perhaps I will be visiting your Sect soti in the future, I’ll be sure to relay that you said ‘hi’ to them”

“You can’t do this!”, the Elder spoke with growing fear, “You will pay for-…”

But before he could finish, Wu Long made another hand seal, ignoring a ruckus in the audience in the direction of the Lant Scripture Sect’s Disciples and another vibration resonance went through the pillars, montarily immobilizing the Elder while a large tal spike launched from Wu Long’s side, piercing the Elder right in the heart.
