Chapter 868: Transformation
Eventually, Gong Liwei’s Wood Qi began to produce effect upon contact with the earth, as light green moss appeared where it seeped into the ground.
Her eyes widened, seeing that.
Goosebumps went through her as she felt an exhilarating rush of excitent and joy. Her hands clenching, and then stretching out open again as she tried not to lose this feeling, keeping the montum going.
Her breathing beca slightly uneven, but she forcefully cald it down, continuing to circulate her Inner Qi acording to thods that Wu Long gave her after the Secret Realm, which were ant for Wood attribute cultivation.
It was just a bit of green that appeared on the ground, but it was a physical confirmation of her newly acquired Wood Elent. A real, tangible proof of her progress.
Wu Long closed his eyes, focusing his senses on the three Runes of Water, Earth, and Wood.
He could feel Gong Liwei’s Wood Qi, and how it extracted both moisture from the air and the nutrients from the ground to build life.
Of course, Gong Liwei was not doing so consciously, or rather, she was not involved with the water and earth at all, she was only manipulating the Wood Qi, which, upon being stimulated in certain patterns, interacted with the environnt almost on its own.
This finally confird to Wu Long, that elental attributes of cultivators were given to them, and were operating according to the will of the Heavenly Daos.
Although born of the Chaos, Heavenly Daos represented order, which sought to control everything.
This, of course, clashed with the concept of cultivation which sought to transcend the limits set by the Heavenly Daos, which was why cultivators faced Heavenly Tribulations.
But with ti, Heavenly Daos adapted, creating order even here.
First by setting limits which existed beyond the cultivators who passed their first Heavenly Tribulations, creating rules for those who transcended the Mortal condition.
Cultivators adapted as well, finding a way to cultivate through those limits by creating the Seven Profound Realms.
And when those limits were broken as well, and they failed to stop the unruly cultivators with another set of Heavenly Tribulations, the Heavenly Daos set further limits.
Yet as cultivators resisted, creating new Great Realms to cultivate past the new limitations, thinking they were continuously pushing back against the Heavenly Daos which had to set newer limits as soon as the previous ones were broken, they seemingly failed to realize, that now, there existed a new order, which was within the control of the Heavenly Daos.
The Great Realms of cultivation in itself was an orderly system dictating the limitations, which simultaneously always pushed back against cultivators, preventing the absolute majority from advancing, while keeping those who were able to advance blissfully unaware of the fact they were still within the hamster wheel when they thought they broke out.
The Elental Qi which was given to the cultivators by the Heavenly Daos was just another way to give them the sense of control and power without relinquishing it from the Heavenly Daos.
Cultivators knew they could control elents with Elental Qi, but did not know how exactly the process worked. And without that knowledge, it was not real control, only an illusion of it.
Wu Long’s Dao Runes, however, operated outside of the order created by the Heavenly Daos, as he manipulated the elents in the exact way Heavenly Daos did, equal to them in every way.
Of course, it ant he needed to understand the exact principles of how elents operated in order to use them, but it also ant that Heavenly Daos could not restrict his control over elental attributes like they could with other cultivators.
This ant, that very likely, he would have faced Heavenly Punishnt even without the Grandmist Keepsake, as he was a threat to the natural order created by the Heavenly Daos.
He also understood, that what the first cultivators in existence of the universe likely faced were Heavenly Punishnts, and the entire concept of Heavenly Tribulations only appeared when the Heavenly Daos adapted to those continuously breaking limits, as part of the order pushing against chaos.
He did not notice this, but as he was contemplating all of this, he entered a new kind of state of enlightennt, different from the sudden enlightennt that ca from a groundbreaking comprehension.
It was a very subtle and quiet ditative state in which his thoughts accelerated and were freed from constraints, with no outward signs around him.
There was only an aura of peace and tranquility that appeared about him and filled Gong Liwei sitting opposite of him with a mysterious feeling of profoundness.
Her own concentration beca sharper, more focused, and using that montum, she began creating small grass and various weeds, which began slowly, but visibly growing around her.
And in Wei Lan’s garden, quite far away from them in Fen Baihu’s world, a crystal-like cocoon of the caterpillar that went through several molts, began shaking, cracking, as beautiful wings eventually broke out, unfolding for the first ti.
Gong Liwei had yet to have any control over what exactly her Wood Qi produced, and thus it was mostly weeds that were discarded from the loans and gardens of even mortals, let alone cultivators. But that did not stop her from the feeling of excitent, as she began getting the hang of it, sensing how the flow of Wood Qi should be manipulated in order to produce these results.
Her hands then slowly ca together, and ford the first hand seal, then another, and then third.
The weeds began quickly withering, but the Wood Cultivation combat technique she tried of creating vines to capture targets failed, as she still hasn’t yet gained that level of control over her Wood Qi.
Not to ntion, she only started practicing the Wood-attribute cultivation thod recently, and thus it was not yet powerful enough to support that level of technique.
That did not discourage her, though, as she already made massive gains.
Wu Long opened his eyes, which flashed with profound light, and smiled, “Congratulations, Fairy Gong, and thank you”
Her cheeks slightly reddened as she looked at him, “I-It’s who should be thanking you. For everything, really. At this point it is hard to list everything you did for without using an entire day to do so. And even this result… is all thanks to you”
“It is my pleasure to help you where I can help, but you really shouldn’t diminish your own effort”, Wu Long smiled, “Besides you have thanked at every turn, after each ti I did sothing. Really, it would be much easier for if you accepted everything I did a bit more easier”
“How could I… it would be ungrateful and shaless…”, she shook her head with a wry smile, standing up from her ditative pose as it was about ti for them to finish up.
He also stood up, shrugging “I know, I’m just saying it would be much easier for if you were a bit more shaless”
Her eyebrows slightly frowned in confusion as they ca closer and turned to the side to walk together side by side.
Sothing in his words was… off.
For so reason, she felt the need to think it over. She rembered all their interactions from the beginning, and while it seed like his attitude toward her stayed the sa throughout, she suddenly understood that at so point, the tone in which he spoke, and the way he accepted her gratitude for anything he did beca different.
Even the the look in his eyes, and the words he spoke to her seemingly had a hidden aning, except that it wasn’t hidden that much, she just wasn’t in the right state of mind to see it.
‘It’s as if he’s…’, she gasped, looking at him from the side with widened eyes.
“Daoist Wu… are you… perhaps… I know this is going to sound silly, but are… are you courting , by any chance?”, she asked, thinking she was insane for actually blurting it out impulsively right after she finished saying the words.
“Hahahaha, you finally noticed? Took you long enough”, he genuinely laughed, causing her to freeze on the spot while he made a couple more steps and stopped, turning a bit, so that he could naturally turn his face to her.
She started at him with wide eyes. Her brain simply shut down, not able to comprehend what was happening.
In the past days after the Sun Shadow Secret Realm, she could see the transformation of Cai Yin, who blood on her eyes. In fact, she witnessed it many tis already. Soone who was already beautiful, and seed to be already fairly happy, obtaining a special glow, and shining joy in their eyes. All because of one man.
At the sa ti, her own feelings grew as well, and she no longer really argued with her little sister’s teasing, simply accepting it with a wry smile.
She was, in fact, thinking about confessing her feelings to him.
This was, perhaps, the biggest reason she felt so self-conscious around him during these few days they were ditating on the Wood elent together.
She wasn’t sure if he saw her in this way, or rather, she didn’t even consider it was the case. She just hoped he would accept her even if she was the only one who had feelings for him.
At this mont, she felt like she and Gong Cui weren’t really that different. Whereas Gong Cui was shocked about learning Cai Yin had feelings for Wu Long, she herself, had no idea he was long since making moves on her, just waiting for her to be ready. And now that she realized it, she also saw how blatantly obvious it was all along.
None of that mattered in this mont though.
A butterfly, which not long ago broke from its cocoon, flew past them, straying quite far from the garden.
Gong Liwei suddenly rushed to him, and as he caught her, raising her up a bit to offset the impact from going against her to the motion of going up, she leaned in to kiss him.
‘Haha, as impulsive and reckless as ever’, he thought as he finally tasted those lips against his.
She beca bright red right after, realizing that she once again rushed into things without thinking everything through. A feeling of embarrassnt catching up to her.
He smiled, looking at her covering her face to hide from him, while still raised in his arms.
She belatedly realized his arms were supporting her by her hip, and ass.
‘Oh well, we’re in that kind of relationship now anyway’, she thought, giving up on feeling any more embarrassed than she already was.
“Dao-…”, she slowly uncovered her face a bit, looking at hip from between her fingers.
“Call Wu Long, Liwei”, he interrupted, as she felt butterflies in her stomach at the sound of him calling her na.
“W-Wu Long…”, and then as she called him by na, the realization of all of this really happening truly hit her, as she felt like squealing in excitent, “I… Is it okay if I… learn the technique you all talk about later? I-I don’t think I can wait… or concentrate on learning anything”
“Hahaha, of course”, he chuckled, as she could always learn it later on, and carrying her in his arms accelerated to the mansion within the Mystic Realm.
