Chapter 831: Kindred Spirits
In a week’s ti, Princess Wei Zhenhui’s popularity among people started to noticeably rise with the Kai Family’s issue. The rumors spreading surprisingly fast, first from the small markets in the docks and then through the city.
She also covertly began investigations into the Northwest Docks Gangs, supposedly after receiving a tip from soone concerned, asking the 7th and 5th princes to borrow Imperial Guards from either of them with only vague details of what she was planning.
And after the success of her intervention into the Kai Family matter, they both were inclined to think she might be onto another success they could piggyback on just by giving her a few Imperial Guards and no effort, sparking a competition between the two princes of who would be the one to provide troops.
Chen Hui was among those given to her by the 5th prince, as the Princess skillfully led her half-brother to that decision in their discussion.
It was supposedly sothing that pushed the Princess to pick the 5th prince’s people instead of the 7th prince’s subordinates, as the 5th prince inadvertently brought up Chen Hui’s successful raid against the pirates, which ‘convinced’ her it was better to go with his subordinates.
Wu Long quietly returned Chen Hui into place, exchanging his illusory double, so that he and the princess could interact directly for the first ti. Not to ntion, it was a chance for him to show himself in the best light, when he was working as Captain of the Imperial Guards.
Of course, Wu Long was exaggerating about having him advance into Essence Ignition Realm that quickly, that would not only be an empty cultivation due to rapid breakthroughs without any substance, but also cause massive suspicion.
Instead, he had Chen Hui raise his cultivation to the 8th level, a much more reasonable advancent, made even more believable with a claim that he had a sudden enlightennt after going through the battle with the pirates in his mind over and over again.
At this point, the Imperial Guard Corps could not avoid raising his rank to lieutenant, which put him in pri position to take charge of the operation that the Princess was readying against the Northwest Docks Gangs.
This was not only the very real first ti the two t, but also the ti they ‘fatefully t’ in the scenario of their future relationship, if the princess decided to go through with it.
Wu Long did not interfere whatsoever at this point, as this part depended solely on the two people involved, and no amount of ddling would make it better, rather, it could only make it much worse.
But as he predicted, at this point the princess basically already decided, having thoroughly researched Chen Hui and his background beforehand. After all, she was not looking for soone to fall in love with, but a partner in political alliance, and he truly fit the bill.
She only needed to confirm that she did not feel personal repulsion which could only be checked by eting him, which of course was not an issue.
Rather, Chen Hui was fully concentrated on the task, so much so that his nervousness about eting and working closely with the Princess was gone, and thus was able to leave a very good impression of him in her mind.

Old Yen finally returned from his assignnt, reporting to Wu Long.
“Empress after all?”, Wu Long nodded, not really surprised, but left with a strange feeling.
“There was a mont when he behaved strangely though”, Old Yen added carefully, “He was speaking with a colleague or accomplice, but a bit… too clearly… in no uncertain terms or coded language… just … it felt off. I then noticed the accomplice he was speaking to was spied on by soone aside from … so it felt like…”
Old Yen hesitated as his words trailed off.
“Like he is leaking information on purpose…”, Wu Long nodded, understanding what Old Yen ant.
Old Yen sighed, relieved that he wasn’t over-analyzing the situation.
Wu Long, anwhile, sank into thoughts. If the whole operation about pirates sabotaging the 5th prince indeed was the Empress’ making, what would be the reason for leaking her involvent in it to a third party?
And if it wasn’t the Empress, then the man who was working for her was bought by another influence to fra her.
He suspected that the spy tailing the accomplice that Old Yen was talking about likely belonged to the 3rd Concubine, the mother of the 5th prince.
“Heh, it seems not only I am pouring oil here”, Wu Long chuckled after a bit, as he sensed a hidden hand much like his own, that fanned the smoke in all directions, “Let’s see… it might actually work to my favor…”

In the next few days, until his efforts of the previous period ca to fruition, Wu Long spend with his beauties, going on dates or just spending so quality ti together in the inn. It was another brief ti of being carefree and peacefulness, in preparations for the busy tis ahead.
One of such evenings, as he was surrounded by his Dao Family, Ye Ling and Wu ngqi began asking Liang Yuhan about the ti she spent with Wu Long in their past life, seeing if there was anything different.
After all, the Wu Long that Wu ngqi knew and Wu Long that Ye Ling knew was quite different.
“Hmm, I can’t really say because I don’t have a comparison to him before I t him, but Sweeti-… Wu Long was already a lot like he’s now by the ti I t him, at least outwardly. He was a lot less carefree, but still managed to hide most of his emotions very well. I honestly didn’t know much about his past just like he didn’t know much of mine, it was that kind of relationship where we didn’t pry into each others secrets”, Liang Yuhan spoke with a pondering expression, “Of course I could tell there was sothing dark deep down in his eyes, but you know, so of us ladies like that in a man”
The beauties around laughed at her half-joke at the end.
“Makes sense, I guess Honey was already on the journey to be like he’s now”, Wu ngqi nodded.
“Ah! There is one thing!”, Liang Yuhan suddenly had a face of rembering sothing, as Wu Long slightly froze, a foreboding feeling appearing in him as he carefully put down the cup of Yu Huan’s tea he was holding.
“Hehe, the Sweetie that I t, would have gotten along with General Feng far far better than now! I would even say they were kindred spirits!”, she chuckled with a wide grin as gazes full of surprise and so of mischief turned to Wu Long who cleared his throat with a light cough.
anwhile Feng Yi coughed, the tea she drank going into the wrong pipe as Luo Mingyu next to her gently slapped her back to help her cough it out with a wry smile on her face.
“Let’s leave the past in the past, ladies”, Wu Long spoke in a visibly uncomfortable way, as they saw him slightly panicking, for many, for the first ti, making his gaze distant as he began “On the way to the Great Dao, ti is but a-…”
“Ehehe, Sister Yuhan, can we hear more about that?”, Wu ngqi interrupted his Dao talk, sensing a juicy story she could not pass by.
