Jiang Yichen did not ask Lin Chu any questions she couldn’t answer.
It felt like they were old friends who hadn’t seen each other for so ti, asking if they had ti.
He said it was Jiang Jiang who wanted to see her.
The night outside the window was not yet deep, and the neon lights were already glowing, gradually awakening the city’s nightti charm.
Lin Chu looked out the car window and asked in a low voice, "Where are you?"
"We’re in the restaurant. If it’s convenient for you, you can join us for dinner; if not, it doesn’t matter, another day is fine too."
Jiang Yichen was just like that, a man of his age, mature in both mindset and experience, never forced Lin Chu to do anything.
The more perfect and considerate, the more burdenso it felt.
What Jiang Yichen ant to Lin Chu was sothing she herself wasn’t sure of.
"I don’t have anything on, Brother Jiang. Could you send the address? I’ll co over soon."
"No rush, it’s still early. Take care on your way."
"Mm."
After ending the call, Lin Chu leaned silently against the car door with her eyes closed, appearing to rest, but she wasn’t really resting.
She was thinking.
"Pull over by the roadside and give the car keys."
A faint voice ca from the back seat.
While Lin Chu was on the phone with Jiang Yichen, Lun Jun heard everything Lin Chu said.
Although he didn’t see the caller ID clearly, he knew the ’Brother Jiang’ she ntioned could only be one person.
The car continued to drive along the road.
Lun Jun spoke respectfully, "Ma’am, Mr. Lu is waiting for you at ho."
His tone was humble, but his attitude was sowhat firm.
The aning of these words was clear and unmistakable.
Lin Chu couldn’t help but find it amusing; did she lack even the freedom to see a friend?
"He’s at ho, so let him be. He’s managed to live so many years eating and sleeping alone, hasn’t he? Besides, he hasn’t spoken up, so why are you in a hurry?"
Lun Jun was sowhat at a loss for words.
After all, he was just an outsider and had no right to ddle in the affairs between this couple.
"...Alright."
He parked the car by the roadside, then handed the car keys to Lin Chu’s hand, watching as the vehicle restarted and rged into the traffic, hesitating before calling his superior.
"Mr. Lu, Ma’am drove the car away, not letting follow."
Lu Huai’an had just arrived ho, his car not yet stopped steadily, the fatigue in his eyes hidden within the gentle night, his gaze indifferent as always.
He asked lightly, "Heading where?"
Her driving skills were good, but she wasn’t great with directions.
"Well... I’m not quite sure. She should be eting Mr. Jiang. Mr. Lu, do you need to check their eting location?"
Jiang Yichen...
He had indeed returned.
Lu Huai’an’s stern brow gathered into a thin cold smile, his voice calm and steady, "Half an hour."
"Okay."
...
The chi indicating a successful input of the door lock password sounded. Sitting quietly in the living room, Qi Ming raised his head, "Mom?"
The brightness in his eyes dimd considerably upon seeing that the returning person was Lu Huai’an.
Qi Ming was still a child after all; despite being more mature than his peers, he was only of that age.
All emotions were laid bare in Lu Huai’an’s eyes: his disappointnt, including that invisible repulsion and minor fear.
After a few seconds of eye contact, Qi Ming lowered his head and sat obediently on the sofa.
When Lin Chu was absent, he rarely spoke, almost invisible.
Lu Huai’an diverted his gaze, instructing the servants, "Serve the al on the table."
Then he walked to the living room, stopping a step away from the boy, his voice calm and gentle, "Did you wash your hands?"
Qi Ming didn’t look at him, just quietly said, "I want to wait for mom to eat together."
Lu Huai’an didn’t think much and bent down to pick up Qi Ming sitting on the sofa, this being only the second ti he held him, his and Lin Chu’s son.
"Not eating will lead to poor growth and illness."
There were servants busy in the kitchen, so Lu Huai’an carried Qi Ming upstairs. As he climbed the stairs step by step, the resistance in the boy’s grasp slowly diminished.
By the ti they reached the last step, Qi Ming was already very docile.
"If I’m naughty, will you hit ?"
The soft, innocent voice montarily appeased the suppressed anger brewing in Lu Huai’an’s chest. Half an hour had still only passed for less than five minutes.
"No."
"Why did you make mom cry?"
Lu Huai’an’s steps halted, the depths of his black eyes inscrutable, "When?"
This ti, Qi Ming fearlessly connected with Lu Huai’an’s gaze. His clear eyes were pure and spotless, his reasoning sound, "The day we went to Grandpa’s house, mom’s eyes were red and swollen. Although she was smiling, it was more painful than crying."
