The sleeping Wanxia felt a suffocating pressure, like soone was strangling her neck, making it hard to breathe.

But when she opened her eyes, she found there were no monsters around, it was all her imagination.

The sun had not yet set, sunlight was streaming through the glass window into the dining room. Wanxia lay on the dining table, enveloped in an orange-yellow halo.

Every strand of hair was clearly outlined.

Her vision was blurry; she could only see the man’s hand stopping less than five centiters away from the tip of her nose, with a wedding ring on the ring finger.

She didn’t need to look up to know who it was.

After last night, even if this man did nothing, just stood beside her, Wanxia couldn’t fall asleep.

Gu Shaozhi’s tall and upright body stood in the dining room, he lowered his head, his gaze faintly fixed on the little woman lying on the table.

When he ca in, she looked like this, and she still remained like this now, arms bent under her head, the other hand resting on the table edge, lightly stirred by a cat’s tail.

She closed her eyes again, not even wanting to glance at him.

Gu Shaozhi’s deep features showed little emotion, breaking the silence by speaking, "Why are you sleeping here? You’ll catch a cold."

With a slightly numb and sore arm, Wanxia shifted her position, using the back of her head to face him.

She responded blandly, "Just sleepy, it’s nice to catch so sun here."

Having slept the whole day, she only drank half a glass of water when she went downstairs, spoke a few words with a servant, her throat felt like it was glued.

Her voice was dry and hoarse, completely different from her usual soft and pleasant tone.

As the woman shifted her sleeping position, the coat slipped off her shoulder, exposing large areas of skin to the air, the fair skin spreading with distinct bruises visible to the naked eye.

It was shocking to see.

Gu Shaozhi’s deep eyes were as dark as night, his heart choked with a thousand unspoken words, but not a single apology ca out, he just reached out and gently brushed her soft long hair.

’Sorry’ was of no use.

Even if he apologized deeply, if she didn’t forgive him, it would still seem like last night’s event was her fault.

She wouldn’t want to hear it.

Gu Shaozhi walked around the dining table, his features turned soft by the ti he reached the other side.

Leaning down, he gently brushed aside the strands of hair on the woman’s cheek, his voice low and charming, "The bedroom should get sunlight too, let carry you to the room to sleep, okay?"

The cat nestled beside Wanxia jumped off the dining table, weaving around Gu Shaozhi’s feet, occasionally letting out a ’ow’.

"No, I’m hungry, I need to eat."

Wanxia pulled the coat that had slid to her elbow back up, lazily stretching her sore neck, never looking at him the entire ti.

Gu Shaozhi sat down beside the woman, his arm resting on the back of her chair, his brow slightly furrowed, "You didn’t eat breakfast or lunch?"

Knowing she didn’t want to hear him nag, he hadn’t called ho.

If she keeps losing weight like this, how can her body withstand it...

Wanxia chuckled lightly, "Mr. Gu, so energetic, goes to work right after everything, doesn’t need rest yet still looks just as noble and handso as usual, am I also able to not sleep?"

She spoke of last night’s pain as a joke.

As if it didn’t matter at all, totally unconcerned.

Upon hearing the woman’s words, Gu Shaozhi’s action of massaging her shoulder froze as if frozen, his hand still holding the teapot as he poured her so water.

In the dining room, only the sound of plain water gushing into the glass cup remained.

He set down the teapot just a second before the water reached the brim.

He took two sips to test the temperature, found it just right, and brought the glass to her lips.

His sharply defined features carrying a faint smile, slowly stating, "Wanwan, you’re doing this on purpose."

She was in pain; he could only be in more pain.

The more nonchalant she was, the deeper the blade sank into his heart, drawing fresh drops of blood.

Wanxia lazily leaned on the man’s shoulder, drinking half a glass of clear water with his help, her dry throat feeling much more comfortable.

"What is Mr. Gu talking about?" She blinked innocently, "I don’t understand."

After all, it will end soon, there’s nothing that can’t be endured.

Though she was nestled against the man’s arms, her gaze remained lightly fixed on the table, watching as the sunlight slowly faded away.

No one knew what she was thinking.

Gu Shaozhi gently kissed the woman’s forehead, holding her hand, the rough pad of his finger slowly caressing the circle of red marks on her wrist.
