"Uncle Gu."

The little cutie called out in a childish voice, and Gu Shaozhi looked up, the displeasure that had marred his brows due to dissatisfaction with the proposal quickly fading away, replaced by a gentle deanor devoid of any aggression. "Hmm?"

Pea sucked on her pacifier and softly asked, "Is it noon yet?"

Since she was brought into the office, she had asked this question repeatedly, and this was the eleventh ti she had asked.

Because Gu Shaozhi had told her that Wanxia would co at noon.

Gu Shaozhi pressed his slender fingers against his temple and laughed wryly, putting aside his work, he stood up and walked to the desk, picking up the phone on the table. "Shall we call auntie?"

It was almost eleven o’clock, so it should be about ti.

Pea’s eyes lit up imdiately, nodding like a pecking chick, "Okay!"

Gu Shaozhi laughed as he ruffled the little girl’s head, his fingers tapping open the screen, dialing the woman’s number.

...

The phone’s vibration sounded, Wanxia glanced at the caller ID on the screen, her serene face showing no waves.

She put on her earphones and answered the call.

A deep, warm voice resonated in her ears, "On the way ho?"

Ho...

Wanxia paused, instinctively ignoring those two words, and responded with a soft syllable, "Hmm."

Sitting in the black soft chair, Little Pea tilted her head up, staring at Gu Shaozhi without blinking, looking adorably silly, making Gu Shaozhi unable to resist reaching out to touch her nose, "Drive straight to the company, it’s just about lunchti."

"Not on the way," Wanxia said flatly, "I’ll return the car to where I borrowed it."

Even though it was only a few words, Gu Shaozhi keenly sensed that the woman’s mood and tone weren’t great.

If Lin Chu called her at dawn, it certainly wouldn’t be sothing as simple as mundane matters.

Avoiding sothing altogether.

He could also guess.

"Miss Ji, if you borrowed the car from , shouldn’t you return it to wherever I am?"

Although he addressed her formally as ’Miss Ji,’ the man’s slow and deliberate tone did not create a sense of distance; rather, it conveyed a sense of affectionate indulgence.

"The company isn’t a teahouse; it’s filled with your employees going back and forth, it’s not appropriate for to go."

"Why?"

Wanxia said flatly, "Bad influence."

Gu Shaozhi curled his lips, the corner of his mouth arching in a way that was both mocking and sarcastic. He certainly knew that without any sort of fair trade, she wouldn’t even look his way. She had absolutely no desire to co to a place like the company.

He wasn’t angry either, his handso face remained gentle, and he asked slowly, "What kind of influence?"

Wanxia wasn’t in the mood to play word gas with him, ready to hang up the phone, but just as her finger reached the button, she heard a little girl calling ’auntie.’

Her lovely face turned cold, "Gu Shaozhi, did you bring An Ge to the company?"

"The servant wasn’t feeling well today, I didn’t feel safe leaving An Ge at ho," Gu Shaozhi’s deep eyes darkened, but his voice grew even warr, "Don’t be mad, she’s only playing in my office, not in contact with outsiders."

If Nan Wan hadn’t brought An Ge over that day, he probably wouldn’t know about the child’s existence even now.

Because, from the start, she hadn’t intended for him to know.

Did she want to leave cleanly once she achieved her goal?

Ha!

How could that be possible...

"Auntie, I miss you so much."

Pea’s pitiful voice traveled through the radio transmission to Wanxia’s ear, and she couldn’t get angry even if she tried.

Turning the steering wheel to head back, she softened her tone, "An Ge, wait a little longer, auntie’s already on her way."

Pea hugged the phone, eagerly urging, "Hurry up, hurry."

"...Okay."

————

After Secretary Liu opened the office door for Wanxia, Pea waddled over with her little chubby legs and jumped into Wanxia’s arms, "Auntie, where did you go?"

Clearly, auntie was there before going to sleep at night, so why wasn’t she there when waking up in the morning?

Pea hugged tightly onto Wanxia, curling her legs up as if wanting to climb into her arms, likely feeling uneasy in an unfamiliar place.

All of Wanxia’s irritation dissipated at that mont, just like Xiao Chu said, this is the feeling of being needed.

She picked up the aggrieved pink bundle and kissed her, "Sorry, auntie had sothing co up suddenly, and you were still asleep, so I didn’t tell you."

Pea nestled in Wanxia’s neck, softly saying, "...Alright, I forgive you."

Gu Shaozhi stood up from the sofa, gracefully walking over to Wanxia, his angular features as gentle as ever, as if that phone call hadn’t affected his mood at all.
