So close, yet why does it feel as if there’s a galaxy between us?
Tears flowed continuously, blurring Nan Wan’s vision more and more. The warm liquid filled her eyes, and everything in front of her was magnified countless tis.
By the ti Mu Jin Huan reached her, she could only make out a hazy silhouette, but she could still discern that he was lifting his hand, intending to embrace her.
Her gaze remained fixed on him, but she took a small step back.
Like a fawn startled by a hunter’s gunshot, afraid of any touch.
It was as if he had been punched hard; the pain in Mu Jin Huan’s chest nearly suffocated him. His arm stiffened in the air for a second before returning to normal. His voice was soft and low, "Were you scared, hmm?"
Nan Wan continued to retreat, but her legs were stiff, each step only shifting a few centiters, "...I’m, I’m a little dirty."
Her voice was inaudible, as if a gentle breeze would carry it away.
She slightly bowed her head, no longer looking at him, tears dripping down her chin like broken beads, one not yet leaving the chin before another ford, ready to drop.
Each droplet seed to hit Mu Jin Huan’s heart.
Mu Jin Huan lunged forward one step and disregarded Nan Wan’s slight struggle, pulling her into his embrace. His voice was hoarse yet gentle, "I’m also dirty, maybe even more wretched than you."
His arms wanted to tighten, to squeeze her tightly into himself, yet he feared hurting her, not daring to apply any force.
The elusive sense of closeness nearly drove Mu Jin Huan mad. His fingers trembled slightly; was it from the excessive tension of his muscles, or from fear...?
His thin lips near the woman’s ear, only gentle kisses could provide him a sliver of security. His low voice was almost a whisper, "Don’t be afraid. With here, no one would dare harm you."
Nan Wan was passively accepting his embrace, her hands hanging by her sides. She wanted to respond, wanted to hug him, but as her arms raised an inch, they chanically retracted.
The movent was so subtle it was almost negligible.
The unique scent of cool mint on the man lessened the breath-constricting sll of blood, bringing rationality back to her, yet her vision grew increasingly hazy and chaotic.
Her pale lips moved slightly, "It’s ."
Mu Jin Huan was extrely close, but Jiu Jiu in the policeman’s arms was still crying, even if the voice was hoarse and the sobbing intermittent, it was still very noisy.
Hence, Mu Jin Huan didn’t hear her clearly, patiently asking, "What?"
Nan Wan slowly closed her eyes and whispered, "Yu Qinglu is dead, the knife was ..."
"Hush," Mu Jin Huan pulled the rigid woman from his arms, cupping her cheeks with warm palms, bending down to kiss her, "Good girl, don’t think about it, anyone’s death is none of your business. Trust , you won’t have any issues, hmm?"
His tone was gentle, yet carried an inherent tremor.
Nan Wan, eyes closed, felt the gentle kisses around her eyes, as if trying to kiss away all her tears.
The tight body quietly softened, she lted into the man’s embrace, listening to his steady, strong heartbeat, in that mont, her drifting soul found support.
"I didn’t want to cry..."
She looked down, afraid to raise her eyes to et his, worried he wouldn’t hear, she repeated, "I didn’t want to cry, but when I see you, the tears just seem uncontrollable."
Before the police arrived, she watched as Yu Qinglu neared death, even though the living room was filled with Jiu Jiu’s cries, it didn’t feel empty. She still felt Yu Qinglu dragging her slowly into hell.
Mu Jin Huan pulled her out of hell, giving her a ho that could shield against the wind and rain, teaching her love, teaching her to see the beauty of the world.
But why, did she have to return to that dark hell where no light could penetrate?
Nan Wan suddenly rembered, when Nan Huaiyu forced her to divorce Mu Jin Huan, in that car, the vow she made.
[Within three months, if I don’t divorce Mu Jin Huan, may I, on so future day, lose everything overnight, everything I hold dear.]
Yu Qinglu once smiled and told her: When people make vows, God listens carefully.
Apparently, it’s true.
"I know, you miss a lot. I’m sorry, Wanwan, I should have been faster, no, I should’ve been ho with you today," her leaning into him dispelled so of Mu Jin Huan’s fluttering fear. A gentle smile tugged at his lips as he said, "Aren’t you tired? Let’s go ho now."
