After taking a bath, Jiashu refused to go to sleep and insisted on waiting for his dad to co back. Shen Zhii was quite helpless, sitting at the bedside watching cartoons with him.

But in fact, she wasn’t really watching what was playing on the tablet; her gaze lingered on her son’s small face, lost in thought.

During this year, her son beca much more sensible and obedient than before, yet he turned especially sensitive. Anyti he ca ho and didn’t see Brother Three, he would ask every few minutes: When will Daddy be back? Has Daddy gone on a business trip again?

Jiashu was already starting to yawn, but he still tried hard to keep his eyes open, shaking Shen Zhii’s arm with a soft voice. "Mom, this episode is over, can you help put on a new one?"

Shen Zhii snapped out of it, turned off the tablet, and placed it on the table beside her.

Then, she leaned down to plant a goodnight kiss on her son’s forehead, gently coaxing, "Daddy won’t be back for a while; you have school tomorrow, how about going to sleep first?"

"But..." Initially, Jiashu was unwilling, but upon hearing the sound of a car engine outside the window, his drowsy eyes suddenly lit up, "Mom, is Daddy back!?"

He quickly crawled out from under the covers and slipped off the bed before Shen Zhii could react, his little legs pattering as he ran downstairs.

Nan Ze had just entered the door and at first glance saw Shen Zhii leaning against the corner of the second-floor hallway, looking helpless. She pointed with her chin to the lump in the stairway, and he understood imdiately what was going on.

He stretched his long legs and scooped up his barefoot son, "Next ti if you don’t wear shoes, I’ll let the fiercest doctor give you an injection when you get sick, and crying won’t help."

Jiashu snorted disdainfully, puffing up in anger as he asked, "Daddy, where did you go, why didn’t you pick up from kindergarten?"

Nan Ze put the bundle he had hoisted onto his shoulder back into bed and solemnly scolded, "You’re not three years old anymore, needing two people to pick you up—isn’t that embarrassing?"

Jiashu was not convinced, stiffening his neck to argue, "But...but the other kids are picked up by both their parents!"

He lied; many children were picked up by their family’s drivers, but he was afraid his dad would disappear again...

"A man has to be independent. If you’re always clinging to us, how will you chase after pretty girls in the future?" Nan Ze said expressionlessly, adding eight more words before turning off the light, "Reflect well, sleep by yourself."

Shen Zhii didn’t even show her face, and Jiashu didn’t have a chance for any outside help.

...

Nan Ze returned to the bedroom, and Shen Zhii had just co out of the bathroom, her hands still damp, with a delicate and soft beauty akin to an ink painting, "The bath water is ready, I’ll go downstairs to make you a bowl of noodles."

This scene was familiar beyond asure.

As the small woman passed by him, Nan Ze’s long arm scooped her into his embrace, his thin lips pressing against her ear, "I’m not hungry."

The warm breath tickled the sensitive skin behind her ear, making her feel a little itchy, and Shen Zhii couldn’t help shivering, asking quietly, "Did things not go smoothly?"

"No," Nan Ze’s face remained calm, releasing the grip around her waist, casually pulling a pajama from the nearby wardrobe, then nudged her toward the bathroom, "Let’s shower together."

Shen Zhii was already dressed in pajamas, with her long hair not yet completely dry, clearly having already bathed. "I’ve already showered!"

Before she finished speaking, she turned to escape the bathroom, but the next second, she was dragged under the showerhead, her words evidently ignored by the man completely.

The warm water cascaded onto her skin, turning her cheeks crimson, "Your body still...ugh..."

Nan Ze didn’t give her any extra ti to respond, stripping her of her speech privileges; the man’s lips carried a faint sll of tobacco, and in this setting, it beca a disorienting pheromone, invading her breath and mind.

Almost suffocating, Shen Zhii managed to break free from the man’s urgent advances, making every effort to breathe.

His shirt and suit trousers were still neatly worn on his body, just wet and sticking to his skin, losing so precision and formality, gaining a more casual air.

The sound of water pattering was mixed with his low, husky voice, "Whether my body is well or not, Doctor Shen needs to examine it thoroughly to know."

Even having beco a mother, she still retained the shyness of a young girl, "Brother Three, you really are..."

Her voice was so soft it seed like water might drip from it, her apricot-shaped eyes glazing with a bright luster, with black hair clinging to her cheeks, making her particularly captivating in the night.

Nan Ze’s angular features were extrely softened, even his deep black falcon-like eyes seed like a gentle, clear spring.
