Chapter 971: Chapter 969: Compassion

Each person organized themselves, stumbling deeper into the heart of the wilderness, with more and more poisonous creatures appearing as they went.

“Don’t move.” Wufu raised a hand, stopping everyone in their tracks.

A strong stench of blood reached their noses, and everyone beca alert. After pushing through so thick bushes, they saw the source of the bloody sll.

Three wolves were hunched over, gnawing on a corpse so mangled it was barely recognizable. The body had been bitten open, guts spilling ssily all over the ground.

“Ugh.”

Soone dry-heaved, and the wolves imdiately looked up alertly, one of them still gripping an arm in its mouth. Its forest-green eyes glowed eerily like a phantom’s.

Wufu shot Hoo Die a glare. Here you are, a top-notch guard, and you’re scared of a corpse?

Hoo Die looked innocent, saying he wasn’t afraid of corpses but rather disgusted. Because he’s a foodie, how was he supposed to enjoy at after seeing this?

“Young master, shall we take them out?” Chi Yi signaled a few gestures.

There were over a dozen of them here. Could they not even handle three wolves?

Wufu shook her head. She wasn’t worried about not being able to kill these wolves; if it ca to a clash, they’d be killed. What she feared was attracting a pack of wolves.

With a corpse here, who knows what else might be up ahead, or if there were more people around?

She didn’t want trouble, but obviously, the other party thought differently. One of the wolves howled twice, and then the three split into three paths, charging at them like arrows, intending to encircle them.

“Well, well, we didn’t co looking for you, but you’ve co to make trouble first?” Hoo Die flicked his toe, drawing his sword from its scabbard, flicking his wrist, and slashing the Sword Tip at a wolf leaping towards him.

Wufu wanted to stop him, but he moved too quickly. In the blink of an eye, he had already killed one wolf, while Ding Lai engaged another. The smallest wolf, sensing things going south, yelped, feigned a dodge, and swiftly fled.

“Don’t let it escape,” Wufu shouted.

Chi Yi and Xiao Five imdiately gave chase.

Wufu frowned.

“There won’t be a problem,” Ah Jiu said as he walked over to her.

Wufu smiled wryly, “I’m not afraid of just these few. I fear it will bring a pack to retaliate against us, and that would be dangerous. Wolves have a sense of bloodline and hold grudges.”

Master Gui approached and said, “You’re afraid it’ll go back and report on us?”

Wufu nodded silently. It was obvious.

Wolves are filled with intelligence, highly organized. A pack would turn into a fierce battle for their dozen.

By the ti they finished talking, Chi Yi and the others had already returned.

Noticing their dreary expressions, Wufu said, “It got away.”

Chi Yi and his companion felt a bit embarrassed, nodding. “It was too fast, we couldn’t catch up.”

“Forget it,” Wufu said, turning her attention back to the mauled corpse, “see if there’s any identification.”

Chi Si already brought a Jade Token over, only inscribed with a single “Huang” character and adorned with a few cloud patterns, nothing distinctive.

Wufu glanced at it and told him to put it away. “Bury it, then send the Jade Token to Cloud Fort, to identify who it might be. If anyone cos looking, they’ll know the fate.”

“Yes.”

Master Gui watched as they dug a pit to bury the person, then turned to Wufu and said, “Xiao Five, you’re quite compassionate.”

Wufu sighed, “Seeing soone end up like this, since we ca across it, digging a pit is within our power and better than leaving the corpse exposed to the wild. If it were , I’d hope soone would bury

as well.”

Ah Jiu was quite displeased hearing that and admonished, “Don’t speak such ominous words.” It sounded chilling.

Wufu chuckled awkwardly.

Master Gui glanced between them, a faint smile on his lips, turning his gaze elsewhere.
