Chapter 898: Chapter 897: Mistaken at First Glance
Wufu swaggered towards the gatehouse with her hands behind her back, her deanor showing not the slightest hint of femininity. As she passed the gatehouse, she drew a folding fan from her waist, unfolded it, and gently fanned herself while casually glancing at a certain spot.
Chi Yi and a few others stood waiting in a hidden corner of the gatehouse. They were Hidden Guards, accustod to living in the shadows, so even when told by Wufu to wait here, they only stood in the dark.
Seeing a young man with an unfamiliar face walk out, they scrutinized him for a mont before shifting their gaze as he slowly walked out the door.
"Who is that person?" Chi San asked his brothers.
They too had only been dispatched here two days ago, and it seed like there were many new faces around the master. They had no idea where this young man had co from, as they had never seen him before.
"Is he one of Mr. Yan’s people?" Chi Liu said, "I’ve heard Mr. Yan is here as well."
The others murmured in acknowledgnt and fell silent, rely waiting.
As ti ticked by, their brows furrowed. Wasn’t this dressing up taking a bit too long? It had already been nearly a whole shichen.
Chi Yi, the eldest among them, furrowed his brow and said, "Sothing’s off."
No need for him to say it; the rest had sensed sothing was wrong too. No matter how ti-consuming, it shouldn’t take this long, right?
"Perhaps it’s so grand dressing?" Chi Si hesitated, "I’ve seen those grand madams take two shichen to dress up before."
Won sure are troubleso!
"Let’s wait a bit longer then."
Another shichen passed.
The group was beginning to feel restless, just considering sending soone to find out about Wufu when they saw Purple Jade coming from Wufu’s side.
The Chi group knew that she had once been one of them, but was now reassigned and working openly under the sun, handling matters in plain sight.
Seeing them, Purple Jade’s lips curved up slightly. The lady truly was remarkable, to actually manage to deceive all of them like that.
For so reason, seeing Purple Jade’s smile, Chi Yi and the others felt a tinge of foreboding.
Purple Jade stood in front of Chi Yi and said, "The lady told
if you’re still here after two shichen, I should co."
"Miss Zi Yu..."
"The lady left two shichen ago, right in front of you," Purple Jade said.
Chi Yi’s expression changed slightly: "That can’t be, the only ones who passed were two old won, a servant boy, and a maid, she..."
"No!" Chi Liu interrupted Chi Yi, whispering, "Boss, there was also a young gentleman."
Chi Yi’s eyes widened: "That was a young man..."
"That young man was the lady," Purple Jade smiled and said, "Oh, and when out in public, call her Young Master Squirrel."
Their faces turned dark, and their lips twitched.
It’d be one thing to misjudge a person, but to have to be reminded of it afterward—were they truly this lacking as well-trained Hidden Guards?
"Thank you for the reminder, Miss," Chi Yi cupped his hands in gratitude, and then quickly led the group away.
Purple Jade smiled faintly. Hidden Guards always seed to think highly of themselves, and the lady’s coup served to perhaps temper their underestimation of won.
Indeed, the lady was right, one must not underestimate won casually!
Chi Yi paused for a mont upon stepping out into the sunlight from the residence. Seeing the people passing by and feeling their gazes, he felt sowhat uneasy; after all, they were used to living in the shadows.
"Let’s go!" Chi Yi felt the warmth of the sun, took a deep breath with his eyes closed, then opened them and strode forward.
They had already lost the first battle, and mustn’t keep the young lady waiting any longer!
