Chapter 721: Chapter 720: Protect Each Other
In the small pavilion, Wufu and Wen Congrui faced each other, the atmosphere tinged with a subtle hint of aggression.
“Do you believe I will not do anything to you?” Wen Congrui was the first to lose his composure.
With an innocent look, Wufu retorted, “Lord, I don’t understand what you’re saying. What has Wufu done?”
This innocent yet shaless expression instantly reminded Wen Congrui of the day he had gone to confront Ah Jiu when he had also said sothing similar: What have I admitted to?
The expressions on their faces were strikingly similar.
Thinking of this, Wen Congrui’s face turned even darker.
“Lord, the case has already been solved. It’s rather pointless for you to question
now!” Wufu subtly poured him so tea and said, “How about I make ands with this cup of tea?”
Wen Congrui snorted coldly and turned his head away, clearly annoyed.
“Lord, if the other party were really clean and innocent, I wouldn’t have acted against him,” Wufu sighed. “But as for how the Lu Family is, surely you know better than I do, otherwise, you wouldn’t have made such a judgent.
“The Lu Family may not be innocents, but the common people are,” Wen Congrui rebutted.
“If soone threatened the safety of your family, Lord Wen, what would you do?”
Wen Congrui was taken aback.
“I suppose you too would use all your power to protect them, even if it ant sacrificing so innocent lives,” Wufu said calmly. “I’m not saying this to mock you or for any other reason, just to point out that human nature is selfish. I am no different; I tend to protect my own.”
Wen Congrui replied, “So, you still insist that you were right.”
Wufu didn’t respond, but her expression said it all.
“You say it was your idea, but Ninth Master claims it was his design. You two seem to be covering for each other!” Wen Congrui remarked.
No matter how one listened to that, it sounded rather sour.
But Wufu, slow-witted as she was, wouldn’t catch on.
Wen Congrui also felt a bit of sourness and, to hide his awkwardness, picked up the tea for a sip.
“Lord Wen, Ninth Master has arrived!” Nan Shan reported from outside the bamboo curtains.
Wen Congrui was stunned and looked at Wufu, asking, “That youngster you ntioned, it wouldn’t be him, would it?”
Wufu herself was surprised by Ah Jiu’s appearance.
“Lord Wen, hearing that you were here, I took the liberty to visit… Oh, Wufu, you’re here too?” Ah Jiu had already lifted the curtain and entered, feigning surprise at seeing Wufu.
Could you be any more fake?
A slight twitch appeared at the corner of Wen Congrui’s mouth as he watched the man sit down rather rudely.
“Ninth Master seems quite at leisure,” he said with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
Ah Jiu smiled and replied, “Isn’t it because I heard that Suishan Restaurant has introduced a new strong liquor? I ca to try it. And you, Lord Wen? Have you tried it?” He glanced around the table and continued, “Ah, I forgot. You’re a scholar and not like us coarse businessn; you prefer robust liquors and would logically not drink them. I have two jars of excellent Pear Blossom White back ho; I’ll send them to you later!”
“Thanks. This fiery liquor, I too am keen to try it. Now that Ninth Master has co, why don’t we have a drink?” Wen Congrui’s eyes narrowed as he spoke.
Ah Jiu’s eyes lit up as he said, “That would be splendid. Xiao Li, bring a jar of Fiery Burning Knife here. I want to have a drink with Lord Wen and see just how fiery this liquor can be.”
Wufu watched the two of them, their faces alight with smiles, but the sparks created by their gaze were crackling and exploding in midair.
She blinked, wondering how the two of them managed to start sparring like gacocks all of a sudden?
