Chapter 627: Chapter 626: Thorough Analysis
Purple Jade didn’t return to the mansion until nightfall, just as Wufu had finished her dinner. Seeing her co back braving the wind and snow, Wufu waved off her greeting. “I told you there was no need to hurry back; it’s completely dark already.” With a mild reprimand, Wufu instructed Jadeite and Hongyu to fetch so food and warm water so she could wash up first.
Purple Jade wanted to report her observations from the trip, but Wufu said, “No rush, warm up your stomach first, I haven’t gone to bed yet.”
Purple Jade glanced at the small clock, noting that it indeed wasn’t yet ti for Wufu to rest, apologized, and excused herself to dine.
In less than half a shichen, Purple Jade returned to Wufu’s room to debrief her, recounting everything that had happened.
“… That old lady, contrary to my expectations, was very understanding and didn’t make a fuss.”
About the Old Zhou family’s matter, not only did Purple Jade get to know a bit from Wufu but she had also learned more from the side of Hongyu, aware that among the Zhou family, aside from the couple nad Zhou Xueli, the rest were rather clueless.
Therefore, she was prepared for a verbal battle on this trip, but unexpectedly, she had returned so smoothly.
Wufu teased with a laugh, “It seems you’re almost disappointed?”
Purple Jade’s face flushed as she chuckled, “I am rely surprised.”
“That’s nothing. Old Madam Zhou had initially made an agreent with . Now that she couldn’t fulfill it, it amounted to breaking the agreent. She is proud, looks down on us, and now that Zhou Xuennian and his wife have gotten into trouble, she naturally feels disgraced. Where would she get the face to reason with us?” Wufu scoffed coldly, “It’s better that she doesn’t try to reason. If she did, it would only be like presenting her face for
to slap. At least this way, she retains so dignity, not losing it entirely!”
“Madam sees things clearly,” Purple Jade complinted.
Wufu continued, “That’s just one aspect. Additionally, I think she is also disappointed and disheartened, which is why she said I could deal with it as I saw fit.”
Zhou Xuennian and the others had co over before the new year, and she didn’t believe Old Lady Zhou was unaware or hadn’t warned them. But what happened? Zhou Xuennian and his wife ca again as if this place were a chicken cage without a door, thinking they could co and go as they pleased; too beautiful a thought, and now they’ve ended up in jail!
Today, by sending Zhou Xiuer and her siblings back personally and leaving that ssage, she effectively slapped Old Lady Zhou’s face.
And Old Lady Zhou, for whatever reason, abhorring them mother and daughter, received such a blow to her pride for her eldest son and daughter-in-law’s shaful act of theft. How could she not feel cold-hearted and disappointed?
Purple Jade deeply admired Wufu’s analysis, looking at her young mistress and feeling quite astounded. Despite being a young girl, she was extrely perceptive, and though she seed careless and unconcerned, her mind was crystal clear.
“Purple Jade, with the way you look at your mistress, you’d think you were in love with ,” Wufu comnted upon catching her gaze and playfully tipped her a wink.
Purple Jade’s face turned red as she retorted, “Madam’s mouth can really say anything. Speaking of which, what about that ingot of silver? What’s your thought?”
The smile on Wufu’s face faded as she said, “Return it to Mrs. Zhou, and tell her exactly what the old lady said.” It’s ti for Madam Zhou to see that your filial piety is scorned by others.
“Yes!” Purple Jade bowed her knee and withdrew.
Mrs. Zhou received the ten taels of silver and, upon hearing the ssage relayed by Purple Jade, turned a ghastly pale, her face draining of color. She didn’t even notice when Purple Jade left; she just sat down abruptly, clutching the silver ingot, tears streaming down her face.
