Capítulo 1397: Chapter 1395: Another Blunder

Unlike the harmonious relationship between Madam Zhou and her daughter, Old Madam Wu returned to the residence fuming with anger, sitting on the Arhat bed in her room, throwing a tantrum.

Over the years, she had led a life of luxury without much grievance or distress, yet now, she was so infuriated by a junior that she almost passed out, and it was her nominal granddaughter who nearly drove her to madness on the spot.

What concerned Old Madam Wu the most was the prospect of such a defiant and troubleso granddaughter being brought into the residence. She feared that it would shorten her own life by several years.

Too arrogant, too overbearing, too troubleso!

How could such a young girl be so bold and reckless!

Nanny Liu, trembling with fear, handed tea to the old madam. It had been years since she had seen the old madam so angry, nor had she seen her face such provocation.

Indeed, that Changqing Residence is a place to be avoided—whoever goes there is bound to suffer, and even the old madam is no exception.

“Mother!” Wu Lihong and Madam Wang arrived one after the other, aware that Old Madam Wu had visited the residence today and eager to know the outco.

“Mother, how did it go? Did you persuade Madam Zhou and her daughter?” Wu Lihong asked anxiously.

If even his mother had intervened, Madam Zhou should have shown so respect, right?

This question only reignited Old Madam Wu’s fury, and she coldly replied, “Persuade? I have no such ability. A pair that won’t listen to reason or force, there’s no way I can coax them.”

Wu Lihong furrowed his brows, while Madam Wang sat quietly to the side, her head low, lost in thought.

“Such people are born to be infuriating, deliberately so. I really don’t know what bewitched you to think so highly of them, and even father that thing!” Old Madam Wu raged.

Madam Wang, her head still lowered, allowed a smile to creep up her lips. It was good that the old madam thought so lowly of that mother and daughter.

Wu Lihong, though, felt a bit awkward and said, “Mother, putting that aside, what about the marriage certificate?”

“Despite my exhaustive attempts at persuasion, I didn’t even catch a glimpse of that marriage certificate,” Old Madam Wu said with a hint of regret, realizing that in her anger, she hadn’t even thought to verify the authenticity of the marriage certificate.

“Then, what should we do?”

“Let’s see what they intend to do with it!” Old Madam Wu said with a gloomy face. “Since they don’t intend to return to the Wu Family, what use do they have for holding onto that marriage certificate?” It’s sothing she couldn’t quite puzzle out for the mont.

“Mother, no matter what, that marriage certificate in their hands poses a threat,” Madam Wang said. “If we don’t retrieve it, they might use it to accuse the master of breaking the engagent or worse, and the master’s reputation would be ruined!”

Wu Lihong’s face darkened, sharing the sa concern.

Madam Wang worried even more that the marriage certificate might confirm her status as rely a secondary wife, subordinate to Madam Zhou. That was sothing she couldn’t tolerate. Damn it, why didn’t the wretched woman just die!

“Mother, should I find soone to steal it back?” Wu Lihong suggested through gritted teeth.

“Are you mad!” Old Madam Wu shot a cold glance at Madam Wang. “Have you forgotten the chaos caused by your wife’s past indiscretions? One issue hasn’t been resolved, and you want to start another?”

Madam Wang flushed with embarrassnt, head bowed, remaining silent.

“What else can we do? We can’t just leave such a threat unattended! That rebellious girl, when she goes mad, she won’t care about anything,” Wu Lihong said. “I’ve heard recently that there’s an organization in the Jianghu that has beco quite prominent. As long as you pay enough silver, there’s nothing they can’t do—they can even steal things like account books!”

Old Madam Wu, hearing this, signaled to Nanny Liu with a glance. Nanny Liu retreated to the door, taking her place as a guard.
