Chapter 1357: Chapter 1355: Investigation

Madam Zhou almost thought she was hearing things when she heard who was coming; the nanny from the Wu Family’s Old Madam was coming to see her, evidently at the Old Madam’s orders.

"Nanny Cheng, what should I do?" Madam Zhou asked the attendant beside her with so panic.

Nanny Cheng sighed inwardly, unable to understand how such a woman could raise a daughter as clever and smart as Wufu; they were like two extres!

No wonder, though Madam Zhou was the elder in the family, it was the young woman who was in charge.

"Madam, you just need to sit and accept the greetings. You must understand that it’s good for you to have no ties with Lord Wu. If you acknowledge him, then you’ll confirm what others say about you being a concubine." Nanny Cheng said blandly.

Madam Zhou’s face turned slightly pale.

"Rember, your husband is Wu Lihong, who gave you a marriage certificate, lawfully legitimate. You’re not any concubine. You don’t need to ntion your marriage certificate to that nanny; when undecided, just keep silent, or defer to the young lady." Nanny Cheng wasn’t sure why Wufu was holding the rightful marriage certificate yet hadn’t visited, but she certainly had a plan, and it wasn’t wise to alert the Wu Family.

Madam Zhou nodded, slowly sitting upright.

Nanny Liu from Old Madam Wu’s side entered through the side door with an arrogant deanor, following the path led by the maid through the Moon Gate and corridor. She expected chaos but found the servants orderly and composed.

Remarkably, their orderliness surpassed even the Wu Family’s servants.

Nanny Liu was secretly surprised, slightly putting away her arrogance. When evaluating people, one should first assess their household, as the servants reflect the master’s dignity. If they’re disorderly or lazy, it indicates poor managent.

Now, observing this household, the masters didn’t seem incapable.

In the afternoon, the entire residence was quiet; Nanny Liu ca to the main courtyard and saw another maid who announced her arrival. A maid at the door reported inside, then lifted the thin silk curtain of the Floral Hall.

Nanny Liu lowered her head slightly, thinking this deanor was quite like a proper lady of the household.

She entered, heard the leading maid announce her na, stepped forward, and saluted, "I am the nanny attending Old Madam Wu, Madam Liu from the husband’s family, ordered by Old Madam to co, greetings to Madam."

She rely bowed lightly and already stood up, boldly examining the woman sitting on the exquisitely carved Taishi chair.

The woman was just over thirty, styled in a falling bun, adorned with a jade plum blossom hairpin, and a ruby-gilded tasseled hair ornant, dressed in a sapphire-blue silk robe embroidered with red plums, paired with a multi-pleated skirt adorned with butterflies, cheeks slightly flushed, her deanor gentle and calm, appearing to be soft and non-confrontational.

What shocked Nanny Liu most was that her ensemble—from the jewelry to the fabric—was top-notch, almost similar to an average Official’s Family’s lady.

It was said her daughter was skilled in business and earning money, evidently true; this outfit alone exceeded one hundred taels, quite fortunate, born in a farming family but raised a good daughter.

Madam Zhou felt sowhat displeased as she noticed the woman’s bold stares after greeting her, covered her mouth with a handkerchief, and coughed lightly.

"This nanny, have a seat." Madam Zhou pointed to a nearby chair and had tea served.
