Chapter 1285: Chapter 1283: The Only Difference Is Birth
Wufu, upon seeing that Eldest Master ng and his brother were both present, realized the importance the ng family placed on her visit. She couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed for being late; she should have co earlier, as now it seed she was lacking in manners.
Fortunately, the two masters only wanted to et her briefly. As they were gentlen, they left after seeing her, taking the other male mbers with them, leaving only the won.
Apart from the won of the East Mansion, a few people from the West Mansion ca as well upon hearing the news, and they all t together.
After exchanging pleasantries, Wufu accompanied Old Lady ng and others in conversation, discussing what they usually did at ho, their ages, and the books they read—ordinary topics.
Wufu picked her words carefully, half-truths and half-lies, fearing that if she revealed everything she did daily, she might shock this scholarly family.
Old Lady ng didn’t wish to keep her, so after chatting for a while, she had ng Siyu and several granddaughters take Wufu to their courtyard to play.
After the others had left, Eldest Lady ng presented the list of gifts Wufu brought to Old Lady ng.
Old Lady ng accepted the Western Glasses handed over by the old nanny and upon inspection found the list included mostly precious supplents, rouge and face powder, and exquisite stationery.
"She has indeed put so thought into this," Old Lady ng noted, nodding approvingly at the modest yet appropriate gift list and remarked, "This costic, is it from Zining Pavilion? I heard the powders from this shop are quite good, though expensive."
Several maids in her courtyard were familiar with this shop and praised its quality costics.
Eldest Lady ng covered her mouth with a smile and said, "I’ve heard this costic shop is owned by Wufu."
Old Lady ng was truly surprised, a complex expression in her eyes, whether of pity or admiration.
"This hundred-year-old ginseng, later I’ll sort it out and place it in mother’s storeroom, for you and father to use." Eldest Lady ng pointed to the item on the list.
Old Lady ng remarked, "This is indeed too precious."
"Doesn’t this prove the girl’s filial piety towards the old master and mother?" Eldest Lady ng responded.
In families like theirs, it’s impossible to do business outside. They possess rare items, with scholarly families traditionally passing down precious books and stationery. While such hundred-year-old ginseng is not unheard of, it’s certainly rare.
Old Lady ng’s brows relaxed, "She is certainly thoughtful." She returned the list and comnted, "A pity about her background."
The background of Wufu had long been explained by Old Master ng, seen as regrettable, yet observing this girl today, she seed fine, only lacking in terms of heritage.
Eldest Lady ng opined, "Though her background isn’t noble, Wufu appears to be stronger than the Wu family’s eldest legitimate daughter. That Miss Wu, a legitimate daughter, yet openly speaks offensive words, showing her lack of upbringing."
Old Lady ng sighed, "We’ll see, this child is indeed resilient."
Eldest Lady ng nodded in agreent; while they were conversing, a maid hurriedly ca to report, "The old master has returned."
"Father must have rushed back upon hearing Wufu had arrived," Eldest Lady ng said with a smile.
Old Lady ng laughed, "Usually you all have trouble inviting him back, now see, he returns without need for invitation."
"Since everyone is here and free, shall I arrange a small banquet for so festivity?" Eldest Lady ng suggested with a smile.
"Go ahead, prepare a few more dishes for wine, the old man might want a couple of drinks."
Eldest Lady ng cheerfully agreed and went off to busy herself without further ntion.
