Chapter 1213: Chapter 1211: Well Done!
Nanny Wei walked to the courtyard gate and saw Wu Lihong coming with a flick of his sleeves, lowering her gaze before stepping forward to greet him.
"Ah, it’s Nanny Wei. Where is your Madam?" Wu Lihong, seeing the trusted nanny of his legitimate wife, rubbed his nose, always feeling exposed in front of this old servant.
"Madam is crying in her room," Nanny Wei whispered, "Madam knows about your affairs, sir. Life hasn’t been easy for her over the years. Please coax her a little, at least for the sake of the three legitimate children she bore you. When soone is appeased, what can’t be discussed?"
Wu Lihong’s heart tightened, feeling a bit uneasy, and he responded with a noncommittal grunt.
As expected, this old woman knew too. Then again, if Madam Wang knew, what didn’t this trusted old nanny know? Such as his relationship with Fu Gui.
Wu Lihong walked into the main room and indeed heard sobbing sounds. As he walked into the bedroom and around the screen, he saw his legitimate wife with her back turned, softly weeping.
He cleared his throat, startling Madam Wang. Her crying paused for a mont and then resud.
"Madam," Wu Lihong awkwardly called out, just starting to speak when sothing flew towards him.
Instinctively sensing danger, Wu Lihong dodged. Thud, the object fell to the ground. Looking closely, he saw it was an embroidered shoe inlaid with pearls.
That was close; he was almost hit by a woman’s shoe!
"Wu Lihong, why have you even co back? Haven’t you deceived
enough?" Madam Wang sat on the bed, pointing and accusing him.
Wu Lihong rubbed his nose, recalling Nanny Wei’s words, and said, "How have I deceived you?" He shalessly walked over, thinking that since no matter what, the confrontation was inevitable, he might as well seize the mont.
"You have the nerve to say that. What about that affair with Lady Zhou of Huayang? How long did you plan to hide it from ? Were you waiting for her to show up at our gate, heavily pregnant, before telling ?" Madam Wang’s voice was sharp.
Wu Lihong sat down and said, "I, I just got back, you know. There’s so much going on at the yan and in the court; how could I manage it all? As you saw, I returned yesterday and had to attend court early today. How could I have brought this up?" Pausing, he added, "Besides, didn’t you send Ping An?"
Madam Wang glared at him, sneering coldly, "So it’s my fault now? Is it wrong that I had soone watch over your actions?"
"I didn’t an that; I just ant that it slipped my mind at the ti."
"Such a convenient oversight," Madam Wang’s tears fell. "You were there for so long, sweet-talking your old fla, and even had a love child—not one, but two! Wu Lihong, you’ve outdone yourself!"
"Here I am, managing the household for you, raising our children, serving your parents, and overseeing all affairs big and small, and this is how you repay . You truly have done right by . I should return to my family, go to the palace, and have Consort Rong seek justice for !" Madam Wang exclaid as she moved to get out of bed, tired of being treated like a sickly cat.
She couldn’t possibly welco soone so openly; she had to vent first. Otherwise, the pent-up anger would suffocate her.
Wu Lihong was startled; if she returned to her family or went to the palace, it would cause a huge scandal. That wouldn’t end well for him.
Without thinking, he held her close, soothingly pleading, "Good Madam, sweet Jiaojiao, it’s my fault. Please calm down and let
explain, let your husband speak!"
