He looked around, the square was empty, with only the fog tumbling under the streetlights.

A cool breeze blew by, whisking up the fallen leaves on the ground, creating a rustling sound.

He took a deep breath, turned around, and left. His cloak fluttered behind him as he disappeared into the thick fog.

[You helped the local residents hunt Demon People, and soon after began to be wanted on an increasingly larger scale, with the Provinces claiming you were creating Demon People.]

[You were finally convinced of the current state of the Huo Ning Empire.]

"You are clearly a Demon Hunter, so how co the next day you beca the mastermind behind creating Demon People?"

Talia indignantly said.

"All I can say is that from the Capital to various Provinces, the Huo Ning Empire is not clean."

Lanci replied, as if he had anticipated this worst-case scenario.

[The governnt of the Huo Ning Empire is not actively dealing with the calamity of the Demon People; instead, they are the real orchestrators.]

If soone discovered the signs of Demon People,

There are only two possibilities: the weaker ones get turned directly into Demon People, and the stronger ones get slandered as the masterminds creating Demon People.

Anyway, wherever Demon People are hunted, they always seem to appear, and this doesn’t look like a coincidence; it’s easy for people to be convinced of a connection to Demon People.

The Blood Clan controls both the governnt and the dia of the Huo Ning Empire, easily turning white into black, and black into white.

The perspective cleared from the fog.

A rchant arrived at an inn called the Golden Ram’s Horn in Salzburg City.

The three-story wooden building, its exterior painted dark brown, had an old, rusted sign hanging at the entrance, depicting a golden ram’s horn.

He pushed open the heavy oak door and walked into the dimly lit lobby.

The innkeeper raised his head from behind the front desk, eyeing this guest with a suspicious look.

The rchant laid out several Honing Silver Coins on the counter and requested a room on the top floor.

The innkeeper narrowed his eyes, tapped the silver coins, then took a brass key from the key rack behind him and handed it to the rchant.

The rchant walked up the creaking wooden stairs to the room at the end of the top floor hallway.

Using the key, he quickly entered the room and closed the door behind him.

He walked over to the window, drew the thick dark green curtains, and the room was imdiately cast in darkness.

The rchant lit the oil lamp on the table, and the warm yellow light illuminated a corner of the room.

He took off his cloak, hung it on the coat rack, and placed his handbag on the desk.

"I collected quite a few body tissues from Demon People along the way."

He opened the handbag; inside, ticulously arranged, were several glass bottles and jars, each containing different tissue samples, so looking like internal organs, others like skin or muscle tissue.

He took out a jar containing an eyeball and carefully examined it under the light.

This eyeball was much larger than a normal human eye, with a bizarre purple iris and vertically slit pupil like that of a snake.

The rchant frowned and put back the eyeball in the jar, then picked up a bottle containing gray tissue.

He ticulously studied the body tissues of the Demon People, using a magnifying glass for observation, tweezers and a scalpel for careful separation of different tissues, and recorded his findings in a notebook. Occasionally, he stopped to dip a quill pen into the liquid in the jars and drew complex runes and patterns on a sheet of parchnt.

[You examined the bodies of the Demon People and found that they did not have surgical scars similar to those from past experints in the Huo Ning Empire, but seed to have been easily turned into Demon People by an invisible poison.]

[You couldn’t determine the principle behind the transformation of the Demon People; it might be a new and improved technique, and even you, a survivor of the Huo Ning Empire’s experintal site, couldn’t discern the cause.]

[No matter which town you went to, you couldn’t identify the Demon People hidden among humans; there was no way to tell the difference, as though they were all Demon People, but you knew that was obviously impossible.]

"Regrettably, I’m not very skilled in this area. The brief decades in Lankros also seed to have little ti devoted to studying these things."

Lanci could not make heads or tails of it.

"I also can’t figure out what’s going on."

Talia observed through Lanci’s eyes.

Although Lanci ntioned that she was a genius girl from the Demon World, specialties differ, and she did not delve much into these forbidden Demon Race alteration experints. Both Antanas, once a doctor in the Demon World, and Pranay, a scholar, would likely know more about this area than her.

"Perhaps only those in the Demon World who are currently most interested in studying forbidden magic alterations could find so clues."

Talia sighed.

But now there wasn’t ti to bring back the bodies of the Demon People to the Demon World.

The Huo Ning Empire was at the southernmost end of the continent, with the Demon World to the north. Even at the Ninth-order, there wasn’t enough remaining ti for such travel.

"Actually, there’s no need to think about taking them specifically back to the Demon World, first there’s no ti, and second, just go directly to Saint Trier and ask."

Lanci was not disappointed by the investigation results.

Text began floating on the glass bottles he looked at, from the Mirror of Tiberius.

[Despite so findings, your intelligence gathering has hit a bottleneck, and you’re increasingly close to Saint Trier, the southern capital.]

[You will next choose:]

[A. Attack the Governor]

[B. Directly head to the capital]

[C. Continue investigating]

[D. Intervene personally]

[Remaining ti: 2 days 19 hours 55 minutes]

"Lanci, should we directly take down the Governor’s Mansion of Tarberg Province?"

Talia was eager to try.

A Ninth-order Saint Polante Pope could do as he wished.
