Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Prefer a Deal
William Griffith suddenly propped himself up and looked at her. Her teary, hazy appearance made him furious.
At this mont, she had her eyes closed, unaware that he was scrutinizing her.
“Cherish Turner, are you trying to use ?”
You can use
to heal the pain in your heart, but you can’t treat
as a tool for revenge against Daniel Peacock or yourself.
Caught off guard by his words, Cherish opened her eyes, and they stared at each other.
When William saw the look in Cherish’s eyes, even the slightest hint of desire vanished.
He tried to get up and leave, but Cherish held him back.
“Haven’t you always wanted this? Didn’t you say that there could be more than transactions between us?”
“I would rather have everything between us be a transaction!”
That way, my heart wouldn’t feel so suffocated.
Cherish’s eyebrows quivered as she failed to understand the aning behind his words. Did it an that, in his eyes, it would be better if their relationship was entirely transactional?
This realization felt like a fine needle poking her heart; it didn’t hurt too much, but the sensation was impossible to ignore.
William tried to break free and leave without a second thought, as if his earlier infatuation was an illusion.
Cherish grabbed his arm, preventing him from leaving, and William glared at her!
She was provoking him, again and again!
Did she assu he wouldn’t really do anything to her? Under these circumstances, could she willingly give herself to him first?
What would happen afterward, when she ca to her senses and the emotions wore off?
Would she regret it in the end and make him uncomfortable again?
“Cherish Turner, you better not provoke
again!”
He pushed her away, veins on his clenched hand bulging. This was his final warning!
“We grew up together, and he promised to marry !”
Cherish’s eyes were unfocused and vacant as she spoke softly.
But every ti he looked at her expression, he felt a suffocating pain in his chest!
“William Griffith, why did his feelings for
change so suddenly?”
“Five years ago, when we were in college together, his promise was still ringing in my ears.” Cherish began to cry as she spoke and then, just as suddenly, she laughed.
Five years ago.
That was a crucial turning point.
William stood up, avoiding her gaze, leaving her with nothing but the cold image of his retreating back.
In the end, he didn’t indulge himself. In the end, he didn’t take advantage of her vulnerability.
Comparing five years ago and now, William couldn’t bring himself to do it.
“If you love him so much, why not win him back? Cherish Turner, who would truly love you in your current state?”
These words pierced both her heart and his. William clenched his fists, speaking against his own feelings.
Indeed, no man could love her in her current state.
Did that include him?
William eventually left the living room, leaving Cherish alone. As he turned away, she sobbed hysterically, but he didn’t soften enough to look back at her.
By the ti he returned from his room after showering, the teary-eyed young woman had fallen asleep, huddled pitifully on the couch, begging for love.
That night, William no longer paid any attention to Cherish. He only covered her with a blanket before forcing himself to return to his room to rest.
Cherish woke up in the middle of the night, freezing cold!
