“Uncle Griffith, Young Master Griffith will be here soon. Don’t worry.” Sophie Wood caught a glimpse of him checking his watch and reassured him.
Although William Griffith had never been fond of attending such banquets and events, he would never be absent on important occasions. Therefore, Sophie had full confidence in him. She glanced around the banquet hall and finally spotted Yannis Griffith, who was standing in another area and chatting with a few beautiful won.
Sophie walked over to him, “Hey.”
As soon as Yannis Griffith turned his head and saw Sophie smiling at him, he imdiately excused himself from the conversation with the ladies, “Excuse .”
Without any hesitation, Yannis Griffith left the beautiful won behind and walked with Sophie to a quieter area.
“Alone? Not bringing a female companion?” Sophie curiously asked, initially assuming that one of the several beautiful won was his companion.
Yannis Griffith raised the corner of his lips, mocking in return, “Aren’t you also alone, without a male companion?”
Yannis Griffith lowered his voice, “That Miss Wood seems to be quite interested in my big brother.”
Sophie just laughed it off and clinked glasses with him, taking a sip of champagne.
“So things, if you don’t say them, may beco too late.” Yannis Griffith gently swirled the wine glass, making the liquid inside roll around.
Sophie pondered for a mont before quietly saying, “I can’t force it.”
Behind the father and daughter duo of the Wood family, another pair followed. The man was handso and reserved, possessing a chilling charm. His silver-frad glasses hid his sharp gaze, making his already serious face appear colder and more determined. The man, accompanied by a gorgeous woman, was none other than the thriving President of the Peacock Clan, Daniel Peacock, and his female companion.
“President Peacock!” As soon as Daniel Peacock arrived, soone imdiately tried to butter him up.
As expected, with the Peacock Clan’s current rising status, many people wanted to curry favor with them. Daniel Peacock exchanged a few pleasantries with them before walking over to greet the host couple – the Griffith Family. Yannis Griffith and Sophie Wood had no personal connections with Daniel Peacock. They only knew that the Griffith Family had previously conducted business with the Peacock Clan.
The lively banquet seed to be almost complete with the majority of the guests having arrived.
However, soone was still noticeably absent.
Robert Griffith was becoming slightly anxious, his displeasure gradually showing. May Campbell tried to soothe him and persuade him to be patient. anwhile, at the front of the hall, the host stood on the stage, signaling that the celebratory ceremony was about to begin.
At that mont, two people arrived fashionably late at the entrance of the hall.
The President of the Griffith Family, William Griffith, had finally arrived!
For a mont, everyone’s attention focused on the pair. Most of the guests were unfamiliar with the woman accompanying William Griffith. However, they found her choice of attire – a tacky and unsightly shawl – quite peculiar. Why would a woman wear such an ugly, ill-suited garnt to a banquet? Although her skin was fair and her features delicate, it made quite an eyesore!
Cherish Turner took a deep breath and tried to remain calm under the many pairs of eyes staring at her.
“Relax.” A low male voice resonated in her ears, which comforted her a little.
Yannis Griffith and Sophie Wood looked at the pair as did Daniel Peacock and his partner. Cherish Turner didn’t have ti to notice the others as she tried to concentrate on walking. William Griffith, arm in arm with her, walked towards Robert Griffith and May Campbell. Robert Griffith’s face darkened with indignation – already displeased with William’s tardiness, his mood worsened.
Robert Griffith chose to take his seat, ignoring the two.
William Griffith also paid no heed, sitting down with Cherish Turner in the front row seats. Perhaps today would be an unusual day for him, a day where he would take the initiative for a change.
The ceremony officially began, and the lights in the hall dimd all at once.
