Chapter 485: Chapter 486: Mother’s Wish

“I happened to be in France for so business and calculated that you would be returning to Haicheng tomorrow, so I decided to go back with you.” Daniel Peacock spoke unhurriedly and sat down in an empty rattan chair with a casual pose.

Mother Turner poured him a cup of tea and began to recount the interesting events that happened during this trip.

Cherish Turner listened quietly, not saying much. She only responded when Mother Turner asked for her opinion. Mother Turner was in an excellent mood, talking nonstop. Cherish had never known her mother to be able to talk so much. It wasn’t until the maid ca that she was interrupted, “Madam, the cake you baked is almost ready.”

“Alright,” Mother Turner replied, then said to them, “I’ll go check on it; you two continue chatting.”

“I’ll go too,” Cherish was about to get up when Mother Turner gently patted her hand, “No need, you keep talking with Daniel.”

Cherish knew that leaving Daniel Peacock alone here seed impolite. Despite the awkwardness, she stayed. However, once Mother Turner left, neither of them spoke, and the silence created a suffocating atmosphere that felt oppressively uncomfortable.

After a while, Daniel Peacock asked, “How was the trip?”

Cherish, staring at the flower pattern on the rose tea set, whispered, “The trip was delightful.”

Hearing her say this, Daniel’s tense expression suddenly eased, as if he had let out a sigh of relief. He glanced at her delicate, fair face, and his deep, rich male voice sounded half self-mocking and half wistful, “It’s rare to see you happy for once.”

Cherish pursed her red lips, remaining silent.

“Sir, Miss, the lady just fell down!” The maid rushed in, exclaiming.

Cherish abruptly stood up, looking shocked and alard, “Take

to her quickly!”

At the sa ti, Daniel stood up, a flicker of understanding in his eyes. He caught up to Cherish in a few strides, reassuring her in a deep voice, “Don’t worry!”

Mother Turner had already been helped to the suite to rest by the maids and was lying on the soft bed. She appeared to be in good spirits, with no signs of anything wrong. Her delicate brows were slightly furrowed, and she occasionally rubbed her temples as if she had a headache. However, as soon as the door was pushed open, she withdrew her hand and stopped rubbing.

“How did you fall? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Cherish rushed to the bedside, scanning her mother from head to toe.

Mother Turner spoke gently, “I’m fine. I didn’t see the step clearly and fell because I missed my footing. Don’t be so worried.”

Seeing that her mother’s expression was normal and she appeared uninjured, Cherish finally nodded.

“Cherish, go get the cake, and don’t forget to drizzle the chocolate sauce.” Mother Turner instructed, and Cherish obediently left the bedroom.

“You may all leave,” Mother Turner dismissed the maids once Cherish had left.

When only the two of them were left in the suite, Mother Turner looked at Daniel Peacock solemnly, her graceful face filled with worry. Wrinkles of sorrow suddenly appeared on her forehead, untouched by ti, her tone pleading as if entrusting her child to him, “Daniel, can you promise

one thing?”

The wind dispersed her gentle feminine voice, and Daniel Peacock nodded solemnly.

It wasn’t long before Cherish returned with the cake, knocking lightly and entering. She stood at the doorway, and both Daniel Peacock and Mother Turner looked at her simultaneously.

Yet Cherish didn’t know what this shared glance truly ant.
