“…I,” William Griffith’s voice sounded from the other end of the phone, but suddenly, the line started breaking up, making it unclear. Cherish Turner couldn’t make out his actual words, by the ti it was clearer, he just ntioned being very busy.
“So, does that an you can’t co?” She almost desperately asked, even she thought that the way she was behaving wasn’t good, it felt almost clingy. She didn’t like this side of herself.
William was silent on the other end, trying to say sothing, but Cherish interrupted, “Actually, I’ve been really busy too, as you know. They’ve been cracking down hard recently, hehe…” she chuckled dryly, hiding her emotions, Cherish felt her heart growing cold.
William thought, even coming to Japan, despite everything, just to see her once would be enough, a single eting would set his heart at ease. But since she said this, he couldn’t insist on it anymore. Humming in agreent, he accepted her words. If she was also busy, then let her finish her work. Sotis, seeing her sitting in front of the computer or a digital drawing board for several hours made him feel for her.
But she said, it was her dream.
He didn’t want to hold her back.

“Oh, Mr. Tanigawa is here tutoring , he’s pretty interesting. Having him around ans I don’t feel bored at least. Being a stranger in a foreign land, having soone to talk to ans it’s not that lonely, right.”
Cherish tried to sound relaxed on the phone, but only Tanigawa, who was nearby, could tell how bitter her smile was.
Unable to stand it any longer, Tanigawa ca over, snatched Cherish’s phone, and held it to his ear: “Alright, alright, I’m fed up with listening to you two stewing in a telephone soup. William Griffith, Cherish and I are busy here, if you got nothing to do, you should go to bed.”
Glancing at the woman beside him, he brought the phone closer to his mouth and added softly: “Rest assured, even if I did have feelings for her, I wouldn’t try to steal her behind your back. After all, I believe I can win her fair and square.”
Saying this, Tanigawa hung up the phone, seeming carefree and suave.

William looked at his disconnected call, feeling lancholy.
But at least, he felt a hint of gratitude for Tanigawa. Although he didn’t think he was sincere, he strangely trusted his words, that he wouldn’t take advantage of the situation.

In the locked drawer of the study, a youthful photo lay there, having never been moved.
Underneath this photo, was a folded picture fra.
William sat in his office chair, took out the fra from the drawer, and traced the edges. Turning it around, the old faces reappeared.
Bob Turner stood in the middle, arms flung open, one arm around him, the other arm around a girl with a ponytail. The girl’s appearance was almost identical to her in the photo.
All three of them were smiling so brightly, they didn’t seem to know sadness.
All of a sudden, he felt a heavy pang, his head was aching terribly, William roared, his body falling onto the desk, the picture fra slipped from his hand, breaking into shards as it hit the floor.
