Chapter 188: Chapter 188: The Past, Never Passed
Haicheng.
William Griffith’s signing went smoothly and didn’t take much ti. Looking at the ti, if he booked the afternoon flight, he could still have dinner with Cherish Turner.
“Thomas Harrison, book
a flight to Tokyo for this afternoon and make sure I arrive before dinner.”
Thomas nodded and was about to book the ticket with his phone when William’s phone on the table rang.
The caller was Julian Brown, who usually wouldn’t contact him unless there was sothing important.
Answering the call, he sounded cheerful, “What’s up?”
“Co to Haicheng People’s Hospital. I’ll wait for you here.” Julian’s tone was exceptionally serious, which made William feel a bit uneasy.
These years, Julian often contacted him because of his health, but William had gradually beco numb to it and didn’t take it seriously.
“I’m flying to Tokyo this afternoon. If it’s urgent, just say it. If it’s about , let’s talk when I get back.”
As William was about to hang up, Julian stopped him.
“It’s about Chloe.”
The voice on the other end seed like a drum beating in William’s ear, leaving him stunned for a mont.
“Who?” He couldn’t believe his ears. How could it be Chloe?
“I just found out that Chloe is alive, but she’s in a very critical condition now due to a car accident. Hurry up and co here. VIP ward on the third floor, building B.”
Julian hung up and then called Thomas, just to make sure.
At that mont, Thomas had already booked the flight and was about to hang up when he saw Julian’s incoming call, which made him pause.
Glancing at William, Thomas reported to his boss that Julian was calling. Without a response from William, he had no choice but to answer.
“Julian Brown.”
“Take your boss to Haicheng Hospital. Don’t let him drive alone. I’m afraid he might get emotional and it would be dangerous on the road.”
Although Thomas didn’t understand why Julian suddenly beca so serious, he knew the close relationship between Julian and his boss and didn’t think too much about it. After hanging up, he drove with William to Haicheng Hospital.
On the way, Thomas occasionally observed his boss’s expression through the rear-view mirror. He had never seen this kind of expression since he started working with him.
William had always been invincible and confident, seemingly never shaken by anything. But at this mont, he seed lost and blank.
Soon, they arrived at Haicheng Hospital.
Julian was already waiting for him.
The door to the patient’s room was tightly closed, and Julian stood in front of it.
“Let
in.”
“You can go in, but you have to promise
that you’ll stay calm.”
William had so self-restraint. He cald himself down, took a deep breath, and asked, “Do you think I can’t even handle it as I did five years ago?”
Julian thought about it and decided that since he could manage to stay so calm and restrained when facing Cherish, he should be able to do the sa when seeing Chloe.
As they entered the room, Chloe lay quietly on the bed with tubes attached to her, lifeless.
William stood beside the bed, staring at the familiar yet estranged face, lost in thought, as if cut off from the world.
He had thought that everything in the past was over, and he could start again. But, unexpectedly, the past had never passed.
He didn’t know how to face Chloe, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, let alone how to face Cherish, who was still in Japan and knew nothing about this.
