C42 – Taixuan Sect’s Winter Hunt Trial
“I encountered humans during my hibernation. By chance, a human child was digging a hole and unearthed . He began to play with
as if I were a toy!”
“Luckily, he lost his grip and I seized the opportunity to flee. The mountains were swarming with humans, all brandishing longswords and roaming the snowy forests. They would stab at anything that moved, without a second thought.”
“Many of our kind were still in hibernation when they were rcilessly killed by those sword-wielding humans. It’s infuriating!”
“I ran for the edge of the mountains. Eventually, I found myself in human territory, frozen by the snow. That’s when a beautiful human woman rescued . If not for her, you and I wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
Green finished, its expression one of deep reflection.
Lee Tian listened, touched by the tale. He hadn’t imagined a Green Snake could have such a harrowing past.
He pondered Green’s words, then inquired, “So, the people you ntioned aren’t hunters?”
The Great Green Snake confird, “According to the elder snakes, those individuals are Human Cultivators. They wield magic and can slay a Spirit Beast with a single thrust.”
“Ah, yes!” It seed to recall sothing else, “The main reason the Human Race ventures into the mountains is to confront the Spirit Beasts.”
Lee Tian mulled over this new information. Human Cultivators, the hunt for Spirit Beasts, the Winter Hunt Trial.
“It all makes sense now!” Insight struck him as he pieced together the puzzle.
Those not identified as hunters were likely the cultivators from the Taixuan Sect, particularly the novices.
The Winter Hunt Trial, held every four years, was designed to send these cultivators into the mountains to hunt Spirit Beasts and evaluate their prowess.
Clearly, the Winter Hunt Trial was a significant examination for the Taixuan Sect’s cultivators.
It explained why Zhou Yuyan had ventured into the mountains early to practice her hunting skills.
With this in mind, the mountains would soon be teeming with cultivators co hunting season. For the creatures of Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, it was an unavoidable calamity.
“However, those human cultivators, as formidable as they are, can only venture so far into the mountains. The spirit beasts within are incredibly powerful, and every year, several of the human cultivators et their end,” Green remarked.
Lee Tian nodded in agreent.
Given that these cultivators were undergoing a trial, their skills were likely not that advanced. If they were to push deeper into the mountains and co across a formidable spirit beast, it could very well cost them their lives.
“Do you have any idea when they’re supposed to arrive?” Lee Tian inquired, looking at Green.
Green shook his head. “Mr. Tian, I honestly have no clue. I was hibernating at the ti. If that kid hadn’t dug
out of my den that year, I’d still be doubting the truth of it all.”
Lee Tian simply nodded in response.
In winter, most animals hibernate, oblivious to the happenings of the outside world.
The Taixuan Sect deliberately scheduled the trial for this season to minimize the risks associated with the Winter Hunt.
After all, the participants were essentially greenhorns.
“Mr. Tian, are you certain you want to venture out to find that girl during the Winter Hunt? It seems exceedingly perilous,” Green said, his gaze intense with concern.
Lee Tian nodded, his deanor grave.
Green, incredulous, pressed on, “Mr. Tian, isn’t there another ti you could choose? The human race can be cruel; they’ll tornt us.”
Lee Tian exhaled slowly, fixing his gaze on Green. “The timing is non-negotiable.”
He turned his eyes to the horizon and continued, “I made a promise to her, and I can’t go back on my word. Should anyone dare to obstruct my path to her, they’ll find no courtesy from !”
With that declaration, he swung the scythe with a forceful motion.
