Chapter 865: 864 Unusual

“The roof of the rcedes-Benz Do is finally closed. Although the light drizzle in Atlanta has already stopped, the League ultimately decided to close the roof for multiple considerations.”

“This is good news for both the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs. With the indoor temperature maintained at around 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius), there’s no interference from wind or rain, nor any temperature impact. For a passing offense, this couldn’t be more ideal.”

“In the lead-up to this Super Bowl, controversies and discussions surrounding the NFL have been heating up. Off-field topics have even surpassed the allure of the ga itself, which is obviously not a good thing. For both teams, figuring out how to adjust their mindsets and stay focused is undoubtedly key.”

“Although the Kansas City Chiefs are the defending champions, both teams are actually very young. Their core players are primarily in their second or third year and have continually shown upward trajectories. In such a critical championship showdown, overcoming external distractions is certainly no small feat.”

“That said, we’ll wait and see how the two coaches make adjustnts.”

“McVay is a beacon of positivity, facing everything with an optimistic attitude, as if he’s powered by an endless energy source.”

“Reed, on the other hand, is the calm and seasoned captain. He has to address nurous complex challenges, but he always manages to find the right solutions and doesn’t hesitate to delegate responsibilities to the right people.”

“Clearly, in terms of tactics, skill, and strategy, both teams are incredibly close. No result would be considered an upset. The determining factor will lie in mindset adjustnts and ntal control.”

“Whoever can find focus and composure first in this Super Bowl clash will have the upper hand in the decisive monts.”

Bzzzz, bzzzz—

The air was filled with buzzing excitent, as if you could visibly see heat waves surging and rolling. Fans of the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs were shouting their lungs out in support, engaging in an unyielding showdown, while casual spectators laughed and soaked in the spectacle before their eyes.

According to League regulations, the hosting duties for the Super Bowl rotate between the two conferences. Last year was the Arican League’s turn, so this year it’s the National Conference’s ho ga.

The ho team gets the privilege of choosing their jersey color.

McVay isn’t the superstitious type. He didn’t opt for the historically higher win-rate white jersey but instead chose the Los Angeles Rams’ iconic royal blue jersey—

After all, the Kansas City Chiefs wore red jerseys last year when they claid their championship, didn’t they?

As a result, this year, the Kansas City Chiefs will take the field in their white away uniforms.

Perhaps this will serve as a small psychological hint:

The Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs are both among the teams with the highest ho ga winning percentages this season. The Los Angeles Rams only lost one ho ga, while the Kansas City Chiefs were undefeated at ho all season. Clearly, both teams are capable of unleashing astonishing energy on their own turf.

Now, on the Super Bowl stage, the Los Angeles Rams maintain their ho-field advantage, imdiately putting the Kansas City Chiefs in a more passive position.

No wonder Kansas City Chiefs fans have all donned their signature red jerseys, trying to bring luck to the defending champions and offset the so-called curse.

“The ga has begun.”

“Ladies and gentlen, you are now watching the 53rd Super Bowl, the culmination of the 2018 NFL season’s championship battle. Facing off are the No. 1 seed from the Arican League, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the No. 2 seed from the National Conference, the Los Angeles Rams. Undoubtedly, this is the season’s ultimate showdown.”

“Let’s wait and see what unfolds.”

The waves surged, the adrenaline pumped, and Nantz and Romo unconsciously sat up straighter.

However, the excitent didn’t last long—it quickly subsided.

The scene was vastly different from what was expected, so much so that the gap resembled the difference between staged promotional photos and real-life buyer photos.

The Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs were facing entirely different issues.

On the Kansas City Chiefs’ side, as the defending champions, they did show glimpses of being in their groove.

Their first offensive drive was impressive. Mahos used sharp, short passes to slice through Donald’s pass rush, connecting with Li Wei and Hill to break through, surging all the way to the opposing 27-yard line, just outside the Red Zone. As spectators had anticipated, this seed poised to be an offensive shootout.

However, at a critical mont, Donald relied on his individual brilliance to apply pressure and force a hurried throw from Mahos—

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman, the infamous protagonist from that controversial non-call during the NFC Championship’s final monts, once again stole the spotlight on the Super Bowl stage.

Coleman intercepted the pass, stepping in front of Kelsey before the football could connect.

The defending champions’ first offensive drive ended with a turnover.

On their second drive, they successfully pushed into field goal range, only for sothing completely unexpected to happen: kicker Butker’s 46-yard field goal missed wide, leaving the fans inside the rcedes-Benz Do clutching their heads in disbelief.

On their third drive, Donald delivered the ga’s first sack and caused a fumble. Luckily, Li Wei recovered possession to avoid a second turnover, but ultimately, the Kansas City Chiefs succumbed to the Rams’ relentless defense and went three-and-out.

Three drives, zero points. It was reminiscent of the Arican League Championship ga.

But this ti, things were slightly different. On one hand, it was the tough, unrelenting performance of the Los Angeles Rams Defense, with Donald unleashing his full energy without holding back. On the other hand, the Kansas City Chiefs were plagued by mistakes, unable to find their rhythm and squandering opportunities.

Similar to, yet distinct from, the Arican League Championship ga.

As for the Los Angeles Rams, their ambition to claim the throne was derailed… in disastrous fashion.

Yes, disastrous.

Goff: Five passes, one completion, for seven yards.

Gurley: Five carries, zero yards gained.

The numbers above are accurate. As unbelievable as they may seem, both Nantz and Romo witnessed this live and could attest that the stats were not an error.

The Los Angeles Rams Defense started the ga by forcing a turnover, leading everyone to believe that the Cosmic Rams’ Offensive group would soon shine brightly.

But no, they didn’t.

Three-and-out.

The next two drives? Also, three-and-outs.

In the entire first quarter, the Los Angeles Rams secured only one first down—

Yes, just one. Goff’s seven-yard pass, followed by Goff’s own three-yard scramble, brought them that sole first down. That’s the entirety of it. Every other attempt ended in failure.

You could attribute this to the Kansas City Chiefs Defense’s incredible intensity or criticize the Los Angeles Rams Offensive group’s disorganized strategy and tactics—

On the tactical front, McVay was utterly exposed when matched against Reed, seemingly paralyzed and ineffective. On the execution front, Goff and Gurley were completely lost.

Disastrous.

In the entire first quarter, the Los Angeles Rams Offensive group advanced just ten yards.

Seven yards through the air, three yards on the ground.

That’s it. Goff was singularly responsible for all of the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive progress.

That’s the sum total. Any way you look at it, under any circumstances, it’s laughably bad, almost impossible to believe it’s happening on the Super Bowl stage.
