Chapter 719: 718 Birthday Wish
Roar, roar, roar, roar.
The entire field was noisy, with a sustained clamor directed at Li Wei and sporadic cheers boiling in the air.
However, Li Wei’s gaze was entirely fixed on Annie and Felix, to his surprise.
Annie noticed the smile in Li Wei’s eyes, shimring under the not-so-bright sunlight.
For a brief mont, the little girl felt shy; but Annie wasn’t the sort to turn and run away—the shyer she felt, the more boldly and bravely she faced it.
“Li Wei, you will never walk alone.”
...
Just a single sentence, yet it ward Li Wei’s heart, and he shouted, “So, is that the song from Liverpool?”
Annie cupped her hands around her mouth as if using a gaphone, “But from now on, it is yours.”
Li Wei crossed his hands over his chest, mimicking a heart lting into love expression.
Ha ha.
A burst of laughter.
Annie was no exception, her smile fully blooming as she watched Li Wei.
Li Wei strode forward, greeted Karen and Jenna, then high-fived Felix and Annie, exclaiming, “This is definitely a surprise.”
Annie, unable to contain her excitent, seed as if she might be swallowed by the teeming crowd at any mont, yet she stood up straight, her knees bending and straightening repeatedly to show her joy and excitent.
Li Wei crouched down to keep eye level with Annie, “Thanks for coming over to see off.”
Annie took a deep breath and then exhaled heavily, “It’s only unfortunate that I cannot be there to cheer for you.”
Li Wei, “Next week. Next week is a ho ga, you’re welco to co to Arrowhead Stadium.”
Annie’s eyes lit up, “Really? I’ve always wanted to watch a ga at Arrowhead Stadium, you know? I’ve never watched a ga at Arrowhead Stadium before. Actually, I’ve never watched any ga live.”
After all, Annie was only eleven years old and had spent much of her life in the hospital due to sickness.
Behind those mature words, a hint of bitterness was subtly revealed.
As Annie spoke, she suddenly covered her mouth, stopped abruptly, and turned to look at her mother with pleading eyes.
Jenna looked sowhat helpless, “Annie…”
Annie clasped her hands together, “Mom, I’m fine now, look at , I’m so strong, I’m really good, really, I just want to watch a ga live. Felix said watching a ga live is really different, going to watch a ga live is my biggest wish!”
“Otherwise, consider it my birthday wish plus a Christmas gift? Mom? Mom! Trust , I’m healthy, I’ll be fine, I’m really strong.”
As she spoke, she even flexed her virtually non-existent biceps.
This scene caused Jenna to inadvertently smile, but her words still hovered unspoken, refusing to give in.
Li Wei also looked up at Jenna, “If you’re worried, I can reserve two spots in the VIP lounge; I think it might be better there.”
Jenna, looking into the earnest in Li Wei’s eyes and seeing Annie’s irrepressible excitent, finally found words tumbling over her tongue.
In the end, “Of course. Thank you, Li Wei, thank you. This is an honor for Annie.” Jenna ultimately couldn’t bear to refuse.
Annie imdiately raised her arms high like a champion, “Oh yeah!”
So pure, so simple. Amidst endless gloom, like a beam of sunshine falling down and instantly brightening the world.
In only a short while, the news had spread across different buses of the Kansas City Chiefs.
A refreshed and revitalized Mahos rushed towards Li Wei, “Is it true? Are Annie and Felix planning to co watch next week’s ga?”
Before Li Wei could respond, Hill, wiping his overly dry eyes, joked, “Rookie, you guys go out and have fun, but didn’t include us.”
“Exactly, exactly, we want to play with the kids too; we want the kids to cheer our nas.”
“Going to the hospital for charity without calling us, rookie, that’s not nice.”
“Go on, you’re the one who’s always saying ‘children are the devil.'”
Li Wei didn’t even need to respond; the bus was already filled with laughter and lively chatter, the laughs unending.
Despite the ups and downs, despite the undeserved treatnt on social dia, despite the young team first truly experiencing the attacks and hatred that co with fa, the atmosphere within the Kansas City Chiefs was harmonious, the locker room ntality still resilient.
In the midst of the noise, Li Wei opened the envelope—
It had just been handed to him by Annie.
Inside, a thick stack of letters, and at a quick glance, there were five or six sheets of paper. These weren’t ordinary fan letters; each word was filled with sincerity.
“Dear Li Wei…”
Li Wei read carefully, like a diary, it recorded Annie’s experiences watching the Kansas City Chiefs gas, and the occurrences inside the chemotherapy room.
But as Li Wei read on, he slowed down, because within those simple, mundane words, not only Annie’s daily life was chronicled, but also the girl’s stubbornness and tenacity, her intelligence, her maturity, her spirit. Through her naïve and unripe writing, one could feel a soul that didn’t match her age.
Until the very end.
“…I know this ga has a predetermined ending, but I still want to fight until the last mont. No regrets. It’s just that I’m a little scared, and whenever I am, I draw courage from you. You make believe that all the struggles, all the fights are aningful.
So, thank you, Li Wei.
You will never walk alone, because you let know, neither will I.
Yours, Annie.”
A few light pages, yet they weighed a ton.
Li Wei could scarcely imagine what Annie and Felix were facing, the helplessness and powerlessness of standing in front of the disease shattered their lives, yet they were knocked down ti and again, and ti and again, they stood back up, bravely facing fate and fiercely counterattacking.
Only those who truly understand the fragility of life can appreciate the colors and weight of it.
Seriously, he folded the letters back carefully and tucked them away; they held incredible value, just like the crayon drawing Felix had given him.
Facing the Seattle Seahawks in an away ga, they had one more reason to win.
In fact, that’s exactly what Li Wei did.
“Wait, wait, break free, missed tackle!”
“God!”
“Unbelievable!”
“Li Wei has broken free! Li Wei was caught in a double, even triple tackle, yet relying on his relentless effort, he successfully broke free.”
“The advance, it continues.”
“Three n from the Seattle Seahawks, the cornerback, the linebacker, and the defensive end, still couldn’t control Li Wei. Cornerback Shaquill Griffin made a fatal mistake in his tackle—such mistakes are absolutely unacceptable when facing Li Wei.”
“I wonder if Coach Carroll misses Sherman who beca a free agent during the off-season.”
“Li Wei, unstoppable!”
“Ten yards!”
“Twenty yards!”
“Thirty yards!”
“Without the Bombing Corps’s toughness, the Seahawks’ defensive group is completely unable to stop Li Wei. Wait—”
“Oh, God, that must have hurt a lot.”
“Li Wei’s straight arm block, a single-handed flip of the safety Bradley McDougald, McDougald was flipped over, rolling out with a backward sorsault.”
“Unstoppable!”
“No one can stop Li Wei! Beast Mode shines in CenturyLink Field, but who would have thought that this ti the Seattle Seahawks are the victims!”
