Chapter 706: 705 The undercurrent is surging
As she spoke, Brittany’s emotions began to subtly spiral out of control.
She stood on tiptoes and started yelling into the space behind Li Wei.
It was unclear whether Brittany was yelling at Li Wei or sothing else. Despite trying to restrain herself, she couldn’t hold back, and her anger and annoyance briefly exploded.
Li Wei did not interrupt Brittany, because he knew she was angry and needed to vent. They were both young, and when young, people are impulsive and hot-headed. The only solution was to wait for the emotions to be vented before they could cool down and communicate properly. Communication filled with negative emotions often fails to reach a conclusion. She needed this mont.
As she yelled, Brittany’s eyes began to redden slightly.
Brittany realized it.
...
She didn’t want to appear weak in front of Li Wei, and stubbornly turned her head to look aside, took a deep breath, and forcefully rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand to wipe them.
Li Wei knew Brittany was right; indeed, this was a common phenonon in the League. Because of this, veterans, led by Houston, were helping to protect Mahos away from those pink bubbles—
So things are indeed precious and rare.
Brittany’s unease and concern were real, and it was also true that the Kansas City Chiefs were not trying to corrupt Mahos but were instead protecting him. These two facts were not contradictory.
However, how should Li Wei explain these things to Brittany?
So secrets belong in the locker room and should not and need not be shared outside.
Thinking it over calmly, Li Wei looked at Brittany, “Do you not trust , or do you not trust yourself?”
Brittany was taken aback.
She had thought that Li Wei was asking whether she did not trust Li Wei or Mahos. Her answer was already on the tip of her tongue—
Of course, she did not trust Li Wei.
But now, Li Wei’s question made Brittany pause.
Herself?
What did that an?
Was the negative influence of Li Wei’s questionable friends on Mahos greater, or was the emotional bond that Brittany and Mahos had since college more profound?
Was that the right way to understand it?
Brittany felt anxious, thoughts swirling in her mind, but she was too overwheld to arrange them clearly.
Then, Brittany glared fiercely at Li Wei, “I don’t need you to feed any feel-good pep talk.”
Li Wei raised his hands in surrender, showing an honest face, “I just want you to be clear who your enemies and friends are.”
He was not the enemy.
Brittany’s mind was in chaos now, and she couldn’t calm down to think it through; she just felt that Li Wei and Mahos were both part of the sa bad crowd.
Ultimately, Brittany couldn’t control herself and threw the small travel bag she was carrying at Li Wei’s feet, “I don’t care what happens to him, give it to him or not, I don’t care, I really don’t care.”
Having said that, Brittany turned around and quickly walked away.
Li Wei watched as Brittany entered the next room, slamd the door shut, and only then did he pick up the travel bag, went back inside, and closed the door.
As he turned around, Li Wei saw Mahos standing there, looking forlorn, staring blankly at the air, his gaze dispersing—
What is love that sends one willingly to life or death for another?
Be it Mahos or Brittany, they were tornting each other as well as themselves.
But now, both of them needed so distance to cool down and give their brains a chance to think before saying sothing they might regret in a rush.
If Li Wei’s guess was correct, this was the first real test of Mahos and Brittany’s relationship. It was also the first ti Mahos tasted the complications that co with fa, as what was once simple and genuine affection in college suddenly beca complex.
However, the more brutal and worse key point was that such incidents would occur again in the future, probably more than just once or twice; therefore, he hoped that they could learn and grow from this experience, otherwise, it would be even more difficult later on.
Li Wei didn’t say much, just stuffed the travel bag into Mahos’s hands and gently patted his shoulder, indicating encouragent and support.
In this regard, Mahos’s personal life was a ss, and what was supposed to be a sweet anniversary turned into the spark of disaster, tossing and turning all night, evidently not resting well.
On the other hand, the Kansas City Chiefs’ locker room also seed enveloped by a strange low pressure, inexplicably and unpredictably lingering in the air, baffling everyone.
Logically speaking, the Kansas City Chiefs’ ho ga overti victory against the Baltimore Ravens was a cause for celebration, but the mood was oddly off.
It wasn’t the players, mainly the coaching staff, who vaguely seed distracted. Just as Li Wei started doubting his own judgnt and wandering thoughts, Clark pulled him aside.
“Rookie, you’re not ready to start contract negotiations yet, are you?”
Li Wei: ???
Is it so sudden? And during the season?
But soon, Li Wei had an idea, “It couldn’t have been Hunter, could it?”
Clark inhaled sharply, “So you knew?”
Li Wei confird his thoughts, revealing a knowing expression, “He spoke to about it during the bye week, but I think it’s not the ti yet.”
Clark took a deep breath, “That’s good. Be alert, the coach might ask for your opinion. It seems Hunter has dragged you into this too. After all, this is the Professional League, not like college anymore.”
The conversation, disjointed and perplexing.
Just as Li Wei was about to ask further, Clark noticed soone approaching and abruptly looked up, it was Hunter.
Clark gave Li Wei a aningful glance as a warning, said nothing more, straightened up, and naturally walked deeper into the locker room.
Hunter noticed, he looked at Li Wei, displaying a brilliant smile with a hint of provocation, but noticeably in a particularly bright mood. Without further actions, he walked towards his locker, cheerfully asking, “Ready for training?”
Instead, it was Li Wei who took an extra glance at Hunter.
This year in the League, due to Le’Veon Bell’s holdout, the atmosphere was indeed slightly different. Although on the surface, the teams maintained a calm deanor—
In Football, no one is indispensable, not even the quarterback, because players can never be greater than the team.
That is an ironclad rule.
But without Bell, the struggles of the Pittsburgh Steelers were evident.
Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers currently held the top position in the AFC North, their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns, were relentlessly pursuing them. Currently, the AFC North is in chaos, and Tomlin’s coaching position was constantly wavering amidst controversy and criticism.
Whether willing to admit or face it, the importance of the running back’s position within the team once again beca a hot topic among experts.
To an extent, Bell’s holdout indeed achieved its purpose.
It is for this reason Hunter believed this was their opportunity, the spring for running backs was right before them.
