C16 – Notalisman Spellcasting

The Qilin Empire was divided into nine provinces, and Long Song City stood as one of the three Great Cities in the western region of Shuozhou. Its city walls were imposing, towering over ten ters high. The streets within bustled with a constant flow of people, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

For Choo Qin, this was his inaugural opportunity to scrutinize the city-state of this world. It exuded an ancient charm, yet the presence of mages lent it a mysterious air.

The banquet was scheduled for the evening, but Choo Qin didn’t invest much energy into the event, which was rife with undertones of challenge. Instead, he wandered through Long Song City with an air of ease.

“Mage Guild?”

Upon approaching a lofty tower, Choo Qin was struck by a potent magical aura. In the Qilin Empire, nearly every city boasted both a Magic Academy and a Mage Guild.

The academies were extensions of the Empire’s influence, grooming students who would join the military upon graduation and serve the Empire. The Mage Guild, however, maintained neutrality. Its mbers refrained from imperial entanglents, dedicating themselves entirely to the pursuit of their Mage Path.

Despite being distinct factions, the Magic Academy and Mage Guild were intertwined. So Mage Guild leaders also served as Magic Academy instructors, and many academy graduates went straight into the Guild.

Together, these two institutions ford the backbone of the Qilin Empire’s mage network.

Choo Qin made his way into the Mage Guild, intent on obtaining a Mage Certification while he was there. His recollection of the benefits was clear: beyond the monthly perks, the prospect of Rune Sharing captivated him the most.

For most, understanding a rune could take months, even years. But with his Upgrade System, Choo Qin could acquire these runes effortlessly.

The interior of the Mage Guild was far more spacious than its exterior suggested, likely the result of so Space Type enchantnt.

About a dozen mages moved through the hall, their gazes turning towards Choo Qin, a newcor after a long absence of fresh faces.

“Eh? What’s an ordinary person doing here? Has the mage restriction at the door failed?”

“There’s a new face. Perhaps it’s an Almighty just passing through.”

“How could he be an Almighty? He’s so young. He must possess so kind of magical artifact.”

A few onlookers began to murmur among themselves, but Choo Qin paid them no mind and proceeded directly to a counter designated for mage certification.

Contrary to Choo Qin’s expectations of a beautiful receptionist, the individual responsible for mage verification turned out to be a young man.

“Do you wish to be certified as a mage?”

Upon learning of Choo Qin’s intent, the youth showed a hint of surprise, having initially thought Choo Qin was there to et soone.

“The lowest level of certification we offer here is for a Beginner Level Mage. You don’t seem to qualify, do you?”

The young man gave Choo Qin a discreet once-over, seemingly with good intentions, before suggesting, “If you aspire to beco a mage, perhaps you should consider training at the academy first.”

The Mage Guild, being a neutral entity, wasn’t a place just anyone could waltz into.

In fact, those who managed to get certified as a Beginner Level Mage had already surpassed the apprentice stage and demonstrated exceptional talent, far beyond that of the average person.

“Actually, I am here to undergo the mage certification.”

Despite the subtle condescension, Choo Qin didn’t take offense. Instead, he simply conjured a small fla, affirming his mage status.

“No-talisman Spellcasting!”

Several mages who had been watching the interaction from nearby cried out in astonishnt. They had been expecting to witness a blunder, but instead, the young man had thrown them for a loop!

Typically, a mage would need to channel their magic through runes to connect with the elental forces of the universe.

Yet, when a spell is mastered to perfection, the runes beco etched into the caster’s soul, allowing for No-talisman Spellcasting.

While not all masters resort to No-talisman Spellcasting, achieving such a level in any spell is indicative of having honed that aspect to perfection.

Even though it was rely a small fireball, the crowd’s perception of Choo Qin had been utterly transford.
