Feng Xiaoli’s heart thumped wildly with a rapid beat.
She knew that she should be screaming for help at this ti, but counting on her fingers—one, two, three—she reckoned everyone in the Phoenix Chamber of Comrce; even Hei Dian added to the total brought the count to only two people and one wolf.
With Her Majesty not around, loudly calling for help would only alert the enemy.
Feng Xiaoli covered her mouth, silently admonishing herself not to make a fuss.
If only Brother Xiaojin were here, he would definitely co up with a thod.
Thinking of Dugu Xiaojin, Feng Xiaoli tried to bolster her spirits; she too must co up with a thod.
She looked left and right and suddenly let out a soft gasp.
In the darkness, she seed to see sothing.
The Phoenix Chamber of Comrce still had so unprocessed goods, these goods were the ones Feng Bailing had ordered Lady Lai to burn as soon as possible; Lady Lai had dealt with so, leaving about two-thirds that were planned to continue burning tomorrow.
The oddity that caught Feng Xiaoli’s attention was these very goods.
Even in the darkness, Feng Xiaoli could see a mass of black energy above these goods, the dark energy was emanating from within.
Feng Xiaoli’s nose twitched—it was that sll.
Her eyes glead; she had slled this before, back when she was in the Imperial Palace. The loathso food that Noble Consort Dugu wanted her to eat had a similar odor.
At that ti, inhaling this scent made Feng Xiaoli feel sick and nauseous, wanting nothing to do with it.
But tonight, seeing the strange Black Fog and slling the scent, her large eyes blinked.
The Black Fog, or rather scent, above these goods was much stronger than that from Noble Consort Dugu’s food. The large gathering seed to be beguiling Feng Xiaoli.
At this mont, sothing in Feng Xiaoli’s arms stirred.
Feng Xiaoli carefully took out an item from her embrace; it was the Buddhist Alms Bowl that she had been carrying with her all along.
Amidst the darkness, the Buddhist Alms Bowl emitted a faint golden glow. Perhaps it was the effect of the golden light, but the Black Fog that had been swirling above the goods shivered.
The Buddhist Alms Bowl flew out from Feng Xiaoli’s arms, levitating mid-air. As the Black Fog t the Alms Bowl, a whooshing sound was heard as all the Black Fog rushed into the bowl.
The process was over in the blink of an eye, and the Black Fog was completely absorbed by the Alms Bowl.
Upon closer inspection, Feng Xiaoli saw that the Alms Bowl now harbored a massive amount of Black Fog.
What was going on?
Feng Xiaoli was full of confusion.
However, she knew that this Black Fog was definitely not sothing good.
"Oh Alms Bowl, if only you could talk. Then you could tell what to do."
Feng Xiaoli gently touched the Buddhist Alms Bowl, thinking that if she could use the annoying Black Fog on those bad people outside, they wouldn’t co to harm her and Her Majesty.
If only they knew that Feng Xiaoli’s thoughts—or perhaps sothing else—had been sensed by the Buddhist Alms Bowl, because upon hearing her words, the Black Fog inside flew out again.
They went through the crack of the door, drifting quietly onto the street.
Soldier King Qi and his rcenaries were preparing to break through the door when a gust of eerie wind blew over them. Even with Soldier King Qi’s high Cultivation, he shivered all over.
He felt an inexplicable chill, and the rcenaries felt even colder. Though it was already early spring, nearing sumr, they felt their skin crawl, with so chattering their teeth from the cold.
"Why do I suddenly feel so uncomfortable?"
Soldier King Qi touched his own neck. His long career as a rcenary had honed his sharp intuition. He looked up at the Phoenix Chamber of Comrce ahead. The store, which usually seed unremarkable, now appeared sinister and terrifying in the darkness, like the courts of Hell itself, deterring anyone from venturing in.
Soldier King Qi couldn’t help but chuckle. What was wrong with him tonight? Why would he find an innocuous Phoenix Chamber of Comrce to be so frightening?
"Move quickly. Snatch the people and leave."
Soldier King Qi gestured with a wave of his hand.
Inside the Phoenix Chamber of Comrce, Feng Xiaoli’s heart was in her throat.
Hei Dian was also prid to strike, like a hidden arrow ready to leap out and kill at any mont.
Soldier King Qi was waiting for his subordinates to act, but behind him, those soldiers and rcenaries remained motionless.
"Get a move on!"
Soldier King Qi lowered his voice, yet there was no response from behind. Puzzled, he turned to look.
At that glance, Soldier King Qi felt as if his guts were about to burst.
The dozen or so rcenaries behind him were all lying on the ground.
Soldier King Qi turned pale with shock, glancing around frantically. Was there a master hidden in the shadows making a move?
These were all seasoned rcenaries. Although only a few were Wuji Masters, the rest were battle-hardened. Even if the opposition had a master, it was impossible for everyone to be felled in an instant.
And this happened without Soldier King Qi noticing anything at all.
"Soldier... Soldier King, save ..."
Most of the people lying on the ground were already breathless, and a few who still had so breath left had their flesh decaying and oozing pus, barely able to breathe. One of them, his face full of terror and mouth stamring, managed to speak.
"Who’s the coward striking us from the shadows?"
Soldier King Qi was drenched in cold sweat as he looked back. It was deep into the night, and the streets were deserted—not a soul or even a ghost in sight.
He swiftly turned his gaze towards the Phoenix Chamber of Comrce. The doors were still tightly shut, yet he felt as if a pair of eyes were watching him from within.
Sweat dripped down onto the ground, pitter-patter.
Suddenly, Soldier King Qi felt a tingling sensation on his neck. Scratching it with his hand, a red mark swiftly appeared on his skin, and with another scratch, his skin peeled off like the bark of an old tree.
Soldier King Qi let out a loud yell, his breathing becoming rapid as if invisible hands were squeezing his lungs. He gasped for air, his eyes filled with terror.
He couldn’t help but rember Xia Xing’s warning during the day, telling him not to target the Phoenix Chamber of Comrce, ntioning that there was a mysterious protector, dical Buddha, behind it.
Soldier King Qi had been disdainful at the ti. Ignoring the fact that he had never heard of dical Buddha, even if such a person existed, how capable could a physician be?
But at this mont, Soldier King Qi could clearly feel the presence of that dreadful dical Buddha.
His decaying skin and difficulty breathing didn’t seem like symptoms caused by a normal ambush.
But if it was a powerful physician using poison in an instant, it would be enough to make one wish for death on the spot.
Soldier King Qi scread in agony, no longer daring to stay here.
"Emperor of Soldiers, save !"
At this mont, there was only one thought in Soldier King Qi’s mind, aware that there was only one person who could save him now—that was Xia Bingxin.
