As they spoke, Shen Hongxiu arrived. Shen Hongxiu wore a modified traditional Chinese blue cheongsam, styled her hair in a nostalgic bun, and adorned herself only with a jade pendant around her neck, without any other trimmings. Yet sohow, she still gave off an illusion of being both opulently adorned and elegantly composed.

After she walked over to greet Mrs. Huo and took her seat, Huo Shaoyan, who had previously been sitting casually, straightened up. An Ge noticed how his whole deanor suddenly seed more upright and proper. She heard him greet Shen Hongxiu with particular respect, "Auntie, I heard your old leg problem flared up recently. Is it any better now?"

Shen Hongxiu never had children of her own and only had an adopted daughter. She personally took care of Huo Shaoyan when he was young, so she treated him as if he were her own son. Her attitude toward him was especially affectionate.

"It’s just an old problem, nothing serious." After a pause, she added, "But you, without a word, you’ve already got a child on the way. I had soone check into the An family’s An Baoying. Although her family background is a bit inferior, the girl is quite beautiful, and your children will surely be lovely in the future."

As she said this, she shifted her gaze from Huo Shaoyan to Mrs. Huo, pointedly comnting, "Mom, I heard from Ah Yan that you’re not quite in favor of this marriage?"

"Take the ’quite’ out. I absolutely do not agree!" Mrs. Huo put down her chopsticks after eating and, glancing up, gave Huo Shaoyan a cold look, saying, "Hmph, you wretch. Since I didn’t agree to this marriage, you ask your aunt to plead for you?"

Huo Shaoyan stretched his tone with a sneer, "My dear grandmother, if I truly wanted to marry her, not even the king of the heavens could stop , so why would I need Aunt to worry about it?"

Seeing Mrs. Huo beco so angry that her blood pressure rose, Shen Hongxiu quickly said, "Mom, you misunderstood Ah Yan. He never ntioned this matter to . I’m just concerned about his major life events. In the beginning, I wasn’t too keen on the An family’s girl either, but the eldest grandson of the Huo Family cannot be a bastard child, wouldn’t you agree?"

Mrs. Huo, of course, understood this rationale. However, she had once caught An Baoying mingling with so dubious n, which left her with a very poor impression of her. She said, "That’s true, but An Baoying isn’t soone proper. I saw her flirting with n..."

Huo Shaoyan was displeased to hear this. Although he had no feelings for An Baoying, the fact remained that she was carrying his child and was the woman he intended to marry. Therefore, he interrupted Mrs. Huo in a deep voice, "Who said she’s not proper? When she was with , she was as pure as a blank sheet of paper."

Tsk, he was really protective, even swearing at his elders. An Ge propped her chin with her hand and watched him, sowhat envious of how fortunate An Baoying was. They were both pregnant, yet she was burdened with a deceased drug lord while An Baoying had snagged a powerful figure in [Jingcheng].

Feeling sowhat downhearted, An Ge lowered her head silently and lost interest in their conversation. She found the blueberry-filled paste pancake on the table particularly delicious, and she was almost done polishing off an entire plate when a low, cold male voice suddenly struck from across the table, "Are you a pig? Eating so much, aren’t you afraid of bursting?"

The words startled An Ge so much that she nearly overturned the plate. She looked up, only to et Huo Shaoyan’s icy gaze.
