An Ge was sowhat alard.

The man in front of her knew every little detail about her weak heart.

She looked at Gu Changfeng with a gaze that was both complicated and fervent, speaking in an undoubtedly assured tone:

"You must know , you must know who I really am..."

Gu Changfeng interrupted her, "That’s not important."

An Ge’s throat moved slightly, her emotions visibly agitated, "No, this is very important to ."

"No, it’s not important."

The man spoke again, his tone increasingly enigmatic, "Nothing is more important than just staying alive."

An Ge remained silent.

Gu Changfeng turned around, walked to the car, opened the door, and took out a package, handing it to An Ge.

"Here’s the ointnt you’ve been asking for. This thing isn’t officially on the market yet; I pulled quite a few strings to get just a few of these."

An Ge took it from his hand, thanked him, and said, "Then... I’ll head back to the hospital now."

Gu Changfeng had to catch the next flight to Imperial City, so he nodded to An Ge and said, "Alright."

After a mont’s pause, he added with subtle aning,

"If life with Huo Shaoyan becos truly unbearable, co find . I’ll help you make all the arrangents for a way out."

An Ge watched Gu Changfeng’s car leave before turning around and heading toward the hospital building.

As she walked into the hospital, a figure erged from the greenery not far away.

Under a black umbrella, Lin Keke watched as An Ge’s figure disappeared into the distance, then made a phone call to Cui Zhu, who was far away in Imperial City.

"Hello. I’ve already investigated everything—Mrs. Huo didn’t have a miscarriage in the first place."

...

On the other end.

After walking into the hospital building, An Ge did not imdiately return to her own ward.

She inquired around and confird that Huo Shaoyan’s condition had stabilized before returning to her special care room.

Anna, seeing her hospital gown slightly damp, imdiately beca displeased.

She said, "My dear ancestor, how could you be so reckless? Don’t you know you’re not supposed to leave the bed and must rest quietly these days?"

An Ge pressed her lips together, recounted the matter of Fu Rou asking to et her, and said,

"I... lost my cool because she angered . I won’t do it again."

Anna sighed and said,

"I heard President Huo collapsed because of acute myocarditis. Fortunately, he was rescued in ti. If he’d actually died at the entrance to your ward, it would’ve been impossible to set things straight."

An Ge felt a terrible pang in her heart.

After thinking for a mont, she said to Anna, "Is he awake now?"

Anna replied, "When I ca over to find you, Doctor Jiang said he had regained consciousness, but his ntal state isn’t great."

An Ge pressed her lips together for a while before saying to Anna, "Help get my phone; I want to call him."

After all, Huo Shaoyan was the biological father of her children. If anything truly happened to him, she wouldn’t know how to face the kids.

Right now, her priority was for Huo Shaoyan to recover and get better as soon as possible.

As for everything else, they could wait until both of them were well.

Receiving the phone from Anna, An Ge quickly scrolled to Huo Shaoyan’s number and dialed.

When Huo Shaoyan’s phone vibrated, Fu Rou, who was now in his hospital room dressed in clean clothes, was feeding him water.

Huo Shaoyan heard the vibration of his phone and said to Fu Rou, "Bring my phone."

Fu Rou walked over to the phone that was charging, glanced at the caller ID, and imdiately frowned.

She hung up An Ge’s call on Huo Shaoyan’s behalf, then turned to him and said,

"It looked like a spam call, so I ended it for you."

Huo Shaoyan didn’t give it much thought, closing his eyes as mories of when An Ge was wheeled into the ergency room replayed in his mind.

She was so fragile.

But she was also so detestable, so hateful.

She had been pregnant,

She could have told him, but she chose not to.

Not only that, she had deliberately hidden it from him.

Why did she always have to treat him this way?

Ti and again, she stabbed him in the heart, leaving him bruised and battered.

If he didn’t express that he was hurt, would she always assu he couldn’t feel pain?

If he had known earlier that she was pregnant, would things have ended up the way they were now?

"Ah Yan..."

Fu Rou couldn’t help but speak to Huo Shaoyan, seeing his despondent state, knowing that it was An Ge who was draining him emotionally,

"Ah Yan, don’t bla , as a mother, for being harsh. It’s good that An Ge lost that child. In my opinion, the child she was carrying might not even have been yours..."

At these words, Huo Shaoyan’s eyes snapped open.

His phoenix eyes were bloodshot, burning like fire as they glared at Fu Rou.

His voice was nacingly sharp,

"Get out of my hospital room right now!" After a pause, he added, "Imdiately!"

Fu Rou’s heart pounded wildly after being shouted at, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears.

She felt that all her sincerity was repaid with Huo Shaoyan’s coldness and cruelty, filling her with imnse grievance.

Her voice choked,

"Huo Shaoyan, even if it costs our mother-son relationship, I have to say this. I saw it with my own eyes—

An Ge and that Gu Changfeng are entangled with each other,

I even suspect Gu Changfeng is a lover she’s secretly keeping... and then there’s that Tang Jiuze. She’s got so illicit relationship with him too...

How long has she been back in the country? She’s already connected to so many n. Are you really sure the child she was carrying is even yours..."

"Enough!"

Huo Shaoyan roared in anger, smashing a glass against the wall.

Afterward, he called Qin Lang and instructed,

"Personally escort her back to Imperial City. I don’t want to see her here for a while."

Fu Rou was so furious she nearly fainted.

She raised a hand to press against her aching temples. After a long mont, she said in a cold and stern tone,

"Huo Shaoyan, if you dare to push like this, I’ll kill myself in front of you."

She paused, then added, "You see whether I’ll really do it or not!"

Five years ago, Fu Rou had threatened Huo Shaoyan with suicide by cutting her wrists when he wanted to sever their mother-son relationship because of An Ge’s supposed ’death by fire.’

She had already attempted suicide once.

So, to Huo Shaoyan, these weren’t just empty words.

After throwing those words at him, Fu Rou stord out.

Huo Shaoyan closed his eyes wearily.

If anyone had walked up close at that mont, they’d see his eyelashes faintly damp.

He refused to believe that An Ge would have affairs with other n.

But...

But he had personally witnessed An Ge embracing a bare-chested Gu Changfeng; he had also seen her in disheveled clothes, being carried out of the bathroom by Tang Jiuze...

Then, there were Lu Huai’an and Huo Qingzhou, both n closely connected to her life...

So, was the child she carried really not his?

No, no no...

It wasn’t possible. An Ge had personally told him that, so far, he was her one and only man.

Huo Shaoyan tried to use this thought to reassure himself.

His phone vibrated again.

Dragging his weak body, he took heavy steps toward the phone that was still charging.

He was hopeful, thinking it might be An Ge calling again.

But it was Jiang Fengmian.

Huo Shaoyan’s heart plumted.

Unable to find the strength, he collapsed into the only single sofa in the hospital room.

He sat in silence for a long ti before finally answering the incessantly ringing call.

"What is it?"

Even though his emotions were chaotic, his weak body rendered his voice devoid of hostility or aggression.

Jiang Fengmian spoke briefly, "I just went to see her for you. She refused to et ."

Half an hour ago, Huo Shaoyan had sent Jiang Fengmian to see An Ge.

Now, Jiang Fengmian stood outside An Ge’s special care room but was kept away.

Huo Shaoyan’s throat felt so dry and painful that his voice ca out hoarse,

"Did she leave any ssage for ?"

Jiang Fengmian replied, "She said she won’t see you until you’re discharged after recovery."

Huo Shaoyan didn’t reply for a long ti.

Jiang Fengmian added,

"I heard that when you were rushed into the ergency room, your mother visited her once, and they talked. As for what they discussed, I couldn’t find out."

Huo Shaoyan made a sound of acknowledgent, "Understood."

After hanging up with Jiang Fengmian, Huo Shaoyan called Fu Rou.

Fu Rou imdiately answered, "Ah Yan..."

Huo Shaoyan cut her off: "Tell , what did you say to her when you sought her out?"

Fu Rou’s face darkened upon hearing that he was calling to confront her, and her tone turned cold:

"With you protecting her, what could I possibly do to her? I only approached her because I was concerned about you. When I asked her to see you, she refused."

She added, emphasizing,

"Not only did she refuse, she also said that it’d be better if you were dead. If not, she’d wait until you’re discharged to file for divorce... and she even said she’d fight you for custody of the children..."

"Enough, stop talking, stop talking..."

Huo Shaoyan roared in anger.
