But his expression looked so calm.

After hearing An Ge’s words, Fu Rou found them utterly absurd.

At that mont, she lost control and stord up to An Ge, pointing at her nose and yelling:

"You seductive witch! You’re about to face catastrophe, yet you’re still spouting nonsense. How could Huai Shang possibly be your son? That’s absolutely impossible..."

An Ge interrupted her, but her words were directed at Huo Shaoyan: "So, President Huo, do you believe what I’m saying?"

Huo Shaoyan lowered his gaze and looked at the woman’s smile, which was tinged with mockery.

On her face there was a smile, but deep in her eyes was nothing but contempt for him.

This was the sa face that had deceived him ti and again.

He simply couldn’t discern which of her words were true and which were lies.

Huo Shaoyan did not respond imdiately, and Fu Rou, fearing he might fall for An Ge’s spell, quickly said:

"Huo Shaoyan, can’t you see it? She’s talking nonsense, trying to escape a prison sentence. She’s saying these things just to get you to shield her... Don’t believe her lies! Otherwise, the next one to die might just be you!"

At this mont, An Muxin interjected, saying:

"Huo Shaoyan, whether a woman loves you or not is sothing you can clearly see. Ever since An Ge returned to the country, she has been approaching you with ulterior motives. If the truth is really as she claims, that she is Huai Shang’s biological mother, then why hasn’t she recognized him?

If her daughter is your daughter, then why has she stopped you from recognizing her? Her daughter is sick and needs your liver for a transplant. As long as she reveals her daughter’s identity to you, this matter can easily be resolved. Yet she hasn’t done so, has she?"

Perhaps Huo Shaoyan thought An Muxin made sense, or perhaps that had been his own reasoning all along.

Finally, Huo Shaoyan opened his mouth to speak.

He looked coldly at An Ge and spat out two words: "I don’t believe it."

An Ge laughed.

As she laughed, tears started rolling down her cheeks.

Crystal-clear yet shattered,

One after another, they splashed down.

Before the police could put handcuffs on her, she made one request:

"Mrs. Huo has been kind to ; please let say goodbye to her!"

As soon as these words ca out, Huo Tingxiao adamantly refused.

Without a second thought, he said, "Impossible. There’s no way I’ll let you, a murderer, touch my mother’s body!"

An Ge ignored him and turned her gaze to Huo Shaoyan, saying:

"President Huo, please make it happen." She paused briefly, "After all, we won’t have many dealings anymore."

The woman’s eyes were red, and her face was alarmingly pale.

Her entire figure seed so frail that a gust of wind could blow her over.

Huo Shaoyan, unable to harden his heart, said, "Alright."

After finishing, he turned around.

At this, An Muxin and An Baoying finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Their collaboration had been flawlessly executed.

An Muxin figured that as long as An Ge was successfully sent to prison, she could arrange for soone to deal with her there.

The thought made An Muxin’s lips twitch with the urge to laugh.

But right then, An Baoying let out a strange scream: "Ah——!"

As her scream echoed, the crowd started to stir.

"A corpse rising?"

"How... how is Mrs. Huo suddenly standing up?"

"Could there really be ghosts in this world?"

At that mont, Mrs. Huo, who had been revived by An Ge’s acupuncture, stood up with An Ge’s support.

Although she had been lying unable to move, she could still hear everything.

So, she had taken in every word of the previous argunt.

After standing, she said to everyone: "Don’t be alard. I’m not a ghost. I just took a nap!"

As her words hit, An Muxin felt a sinking feeling.

What is going on?

An Muxin instantly panicked.

She quickly shot a aningful look at Cui Zhu.

Understanding the signal, Cui Zhu planned to quietly approach the equally horrified An Baoying and dispose of her while nobody noticed. But before she could act, Mrs. Huo spoke:

"Soone, restrain these two vile creatures, An Baoying and An Muxin. Don’t let them escape!"

As she spoke, An Baoying was swiftly subdued.

As for An Muxin.

She hid behind Fu Rou, losing control emotionally as she said, "None of you are allowed to touch ; I’m a pregnant woman!"

Her words reminded Fu Rou.

Fu Rou quickly acted like a mother hen protecting her chick, shielding An Muxin and declaring:

"I won’t allow any of you to harm her. She carries the Huo Family’s bloodline in her womb! If anything happens to her, not only will I not forgive you, but the An Family of Imperial City won’t either!"

With Fu Rou’s protection, An Muxin finally let out a sigh of relief.

At this mont, Huo Tingxiao, recovering from his shock, rushed to Mrs. Huo and asked emotionally:

"Mother, what on earth is going on?"

Fu Rou, dissatisfied, interjected as well:

"Madam, what stunt are you pulling? Do you realize that because of this act involving An Ge, this demoness, we even had to call the police?"

Mrs. Huo replied coldly:

"With the police here, all the better. It’s perfect for punishing evildoers and carrying out justice!" After a pause, she added, "Let’s go downstairs and talk."

Upon hearing this, An Muxin felt her reputation was about to collapse.

Thinking quickly, she sent a text to An Jifeng: Big Brother, sothing has happened. Co save at the Huo Mansion!

She had just sent the text when she looked up, only to et An Ge’s taunting gaze, which made her feel disgusted as though she had swallowed a fly.

An Ge soon withdrew her gaze from her.

At this mont, Mrs. Huo was escorted downstairs by other servants.

Upstairs, only An Ge, Huo Shaoyan, who hadn’t moved, and An Muxin hiding behind Fu Rou remained.

Fu Rou noticed An Ge staring at them and frowned, dissatisfied, saying:

"An Ge, I don’t care what you’re planning, but I won’t let you harm Muxin in the slightest!"

After speaking, Fu Rou turned her attention back to An Muxin and reassured her:

"Muxin, you’ve done nothing wrong. Why should you fear her? Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, I won’t let anyone hurt you."

After her comforting words, Fu Rou led An Muxin downstairs.

Afterward, Huo Shaoyan walked up to An Ge.

But An Ge spun around and headed straight for the stairs.

Huo Shaoyan hurriedly stepped forward, grabbing her wrist and dragging her back to him.

In the next mont, An Ge raised her hand and slapped him across the face: "Let go of !"

Huo Shaoyan did not let go.

His gaze turned intense.

His emotions surged to their peak within seconds, his voice raspy as he asked:

"What exactly are you and Madam plotting together?"

An Ge yanked her hand away, glaring at him mockingly as she said:

"Plotting? President Huo, won’t you find out soon enough?"

With that, An Ge turned and descended the stairs.

Huo Shaoyan stood alone, unresolved answers revolving intensely in his mind.

He recalled his heartless words to the woman monts ago.

And rembered his previous coldness, even malice, toward Huo Chenghuan. His body slumped against the wall,

slowly sliding down as if the world around him vanished into silence.

Leaning against the wall, he beca absorbed in his thoughts.

He sat there for an unknown amount of ti until his legs practically went numb, forcing him to support himself on the ground and stand.

When he got up, he finally noticed that the entire upper floor was shrouded in darkness—even the view of the city lights outside failed to illuminate the room.

It turned out the sky had quietly deepened into night.

Huo Shaoyan pressed his aching brow, forcing himself to move his lead-heavy legs toward the lit lower floor.

But downstairs was eerily silent, devoid of any sound.

For no clear reason, a sense of unease—the sa kind he experienced five years ago when An Ge had gone missing—began to creep up.

He quickened his pace, rushing down the stairs two to three steps at a ti.

Perhaps he moved too hastily; as he approached the last few steps before the living room, his foot slipped, sending him tumbling forward.

His knee and ankle throbbed with dull pain, but Huo Shaoyan paid it no mind.

Ignoring the pain, he stood up and swiftly scanned the living room with his eyes.

Empty—completely devoid of life.

Huo Shaoyan’s unease magnified tenfold in an instant.

Where is everyone?

Where did they all go?

More accurately, where did An Ge go?

Damn it, she wouldn’t possibly vanish silently like five years ago, would she?

No, she wouldn’t.

Huanhuan’s illness required his liver, so An Ge wouldn’t just leave with the child.

With this reasoning, Huo Shaoyan cald himself slightly.

Just as he was preparing to walk toward the entrance, he halted due to the sharp pain radiating from his ankle.

It seed he’d twisted his ankle!

Huo Shaoyan steadied himself for a few seconds, then took out his phone and called Qin Lang,

"I need to know An Ge’s current location. Find her imdiately!"

Qin Lang replied, "Young Master, I’m currently with Madam."

Huo Shaoyan’s voice turned hoarse and desperate: "Where?"

Qin Lang said, "At the hospital!"

Upon hearing that, Huo Shaoyan felt like his throat had been clutched, rendering him speechless for a mont. Then finally, he managed to ask:

"What happened?"

Though Qin Lang struggled to explain, he summarized quickly,

"After Madam exposed An Baoying’s feigned madness, An Baoying suddenly pulled out a concealed fruit knife and attempted to stab Madam... Madam got injured!"

When Huo Shaoyan arrived at the hospital, An Ge’s injured arm had already been bandaged.

Because the injury was relatively deep, coupled with the shock she’d experienced, it triggered complications with her pregnancy.

Thus, Anna recomnded that An Ge stay in the hospital for observation for two days.

Since Anna oversaw An Ge’s treatnt personally, no one else knew about her pregnancy yet.

After handling An Ge’s wound, Anna asked:

"Mrs. Huo and Fu Rou are waiting outside the ward. Would you like to see them?"
