An Ge pursed her lips, thought for a mont, organized her words, and said, "I’m here to visit Young Master Huo..."
"What does my son have to do with you?"
An Ge swallowed and replied,
"I get along well with Young Master Huo, and my daughter, Huanhuan, is very fond of him too. She’s very worried about his illness..."
Young Master Huo sneered coldly,
"One would think you were blood relatives with him. Don’t waste your ti. If you’re trying to use him to persuade to donate part of my liver to save your daughter’s life, there’s no chance."
He paused, "Huai Shang is already asleep. You should leave, or I’ll have the bodyguards throw you out, which wouldn’t look good."
Knowing that forcing her way through wouldn’t help, An Ge temporarily let go of the idea of seeing Huo Huaisang.
While carrying a fruit basket downstairs and planning to call Huo Huaisang, she discovered her number had been blocked. It could only have been done by Huo Shaoyan.
Taking a deep breath, An Ge was about to leave the hospital when she ran into Xiao Chaofeng, who had co to visit Xiao Ye.
Xiao Ye’s cranial surgery had been successful, and though he had regained consciousness, he was still in the intensive care unit and hadn’t moved to a regular room yet.
Because Madam Xiao harbored a strong prejudice against An Ge, An Ge hadn’t visited Xiao Ye since his surgery.
So when An Ge saw Xiao Chaofeng, she asked, "I heard from Anna that Ah Ye has been recovering well lately?"
Xiao Chaofeng glanced at the fruit basket and children’s LEGO toys in her hand and responded evasively,
"I heard you and Huo Shaoyan are completely done. Are you switching tactics now, targeting his son after failing to win him over?"
An Ge squinted her eyes slightly, looked at Xiao Chaofeng, and replied with a hint of amusent,
"Yeah. When he heard I not only didn’t love him but also planned to escape after using him, he was so furious he could tear apart."
She paused,
"You’re his good friend. You know him best. So, Master Xiao, got any tips for ? I really do want to win him over."
Xiao Chaofeng sneered, "Winning him over is easy."
An Ge made a gesture of attentive listening, "Care to elaborate?"
Xiao Chaofeng laughed coldly,
"They say you’re smart, yet now you’re utterly hopeless. Even An Muxin knows how to play the sympathy card and use the hardship strategy. Why can’t you learn?"
An Ge: "..."
Xiao Chaofeng continued,
"An Muxin even used love as a weapon and went so far as to hurt her leg to make him soften. If you’re not doing it for anything else, you’re doing it to save your daughter’s life. Shouldn’t you also make so sacrifices? Maybe if you pretend to die, it’ll soften his heart."
After saying that, Xiao Chaofeng turned and walked away.
About five or six ters away, An Ge called after him, "Wait."
Xiao Chaofeng halted his steps, slightly turned his head to glance at her.
An Ge approached him, "Call him right now."
Xiao Chaofeng raised an eyebrow, "For what?"
An Ge said calmly,
"Tell him it seems like I’m not in my right mind and I’m standing in the street trying to pick a car that I feel is ’the one’ to crash into."
Xiao Chaofeng replied coldly, "You’re crazy!"
An Ge demanded, "Are you going to call or not? If you don’t, and I really end up doing sothing, I’ll just say you encouraged to put on this act as a ploy for him."
Xiao Chaofeng: "..."
Huo Shaoyan received Xiao Chaofeng’s call just as he arrived at An Muxin’s hospital room.
As soon as An Muxin saw him, her eyes lit up.
She said self-deprecatingly to Huo Shaoyan,
"I didn’t expect you to still want to see ." She paused, "Is Huai Shang’s condition stabilized now?"
Huo Shaoyan glanced at the incoming call display on his phone, saw it was from Xiao Chaofeng, and ignored it.
He put his phone on silent mode and shoved it into his pocket.
After these actions, he replied to An Muxin,
"Since Huai Shang received your blood transfusion, his condition has stabilized; he’ll likely be discharged after two or three more days of observation."
Upon hearing this, An Muxin smiled and said, "That’s good to hear."
She paused, hesitated, and asked,
"I heard you did another DNA paternity test for Huai Shang and An Ge, and the result showed that Huai Shang and An Ge aren’t related at all. So, who could be Huai Shang’s biological mother?"
Perhaps due to the repeated DNA test results and An Ge’s firm denial, Huo Shaoyan no longer doubted any relation between Huo Huaisang and An Ge.
Thus, he replied flatly to An Muxin,
"I have no idea." He paused, hinting deliberately, "Maybe Bai ilan or An Baoying knows the whole truth."
An Muxin uttered a vague sound of understanding and said,
"But An Baoying is out of her mind and confused, making finding out Huai Shang’s biological mother pretty hard. Also, Bai ilan is still in a coma."
She paused, then added,
"I asked the doctors, and they said the chances of Bai ilan waking up aren’t great."
Huo Shaoyan responded coldly, "It doesn’t matter. Whether Huai Shang has a biological mother or not isn’t important; having as his father is enough."
Because of his words, An Muxin gazed at him deeply and said,
"You seem to be in a bad mood. What’s wrong? I thought you were planning to remarry An Ge. Logically, you should be very happy right now.
"Besides, as far as I know, Huai Shang and An Ge get along well, and even if his biological mother can’t be found, he shouldn’t mind if she becos his stepmother. But... you don’t seem happy at all. Why?"
Huo Shaoyan pulled a chair over to sit down at An Muxin’s bedside.
His Phoenix Eyes lingered on An Muxin’s sickly pale face for quite a while before he spoke,
"She ca back to the country only to use and retaliate against . She has no love for , not even a bit, so I’ve canceled our remarriage."
Hearing this, An Muxin’s heart fluttered with so excitent.
Suppressing her delight, she looked at Huo Shaoyan and said, "So... did you completely fall out with her?"
Yet, the man answered indirectly, his gaze deeply unfathomable as he looked at her and said,
"I don’t understand won’s hearts very well. You’re a woman, so I’d like to ask you, if you were An Ge, how would you face ?"
An Muxin thought for a while and then analyzed objectively,
"Frankly speaking, you hurt her five years ago; that’s an undeniable fact. Just considering how you imprisoned her during her pregnancy, she can’t possibly forgive you. Besides, her twins both died."
She paused, then added,
"She herself almost died. She basically passed through the gates of hell; how could she not hate you? If I were her, I’d want to stab you a few tis to vent my hate. But she hasn’t."
Huo Shaoyan’s expression grew darker, and a cold nace simred in his deanor.
After a while, he said, "So, in your view, what’s her fundantal reason for approaching ?"
An Muxin resented An Ge deeply, so she seized the chance to sow discord between An Ge and Huo Shaoyan, capitalizing on the opportunity.
She looked at Huo Shaoyan, hesitatingly said, "Do you wish to hear the truth?"
The man’s voice was icy, "Of course, I want the truth."
"But the truth often disappoints or even hurts. If I tell you, don’t bla ."
Huo Shaoyan irritably pulled out a cigarette, lit up, and took a deep drag.
The dense smoke quickly engulfed his inscrutably handso face.
His voice carried a hint of darkness, filtering through the smoke, reaching An Muxin’s ears, "Speak, I won’t bla you."
A flash of malice crossed An Muxin’s eyes as she unhesitatingly blurted out,
"I think the reason she hasn’t stabbed you is that her ultimate goal is to see you dead."
"She wants dead?"
His voice betrayed more than just astonishnt; an indescribable emotion lingered.
After observing his facial expression, An Muxin cautiously said,
"Yes. If she didn’t actually want to destroy you, how could she maintain such a calm deanor on the surface?"
Huo Shaoyan put out the burnt-down cigarette butt, and his voice was distinctly cold,
"That’s because she has sothing to ask of . She wants to donate part of my liver to save her daughter, so she’s tried everything to please ..."
"You’re right. It’s because she needs sothing from you that she hasn’t completely fallen out with you initially. She’s charming you into agreeing to donate your liver to save her daughter, and once you’re no longer useful, she’d push you into an irreversible hell."
By now, An Muxin’s tone grew increasingly earnest,
"Brother Yan, if a woman holds hatred towards you, with deep-seated enmity, she’ll always be in opposition to you. If I were you, I would withdraw in ti before it’s too late."
Huo Shaoyan stood up.
He tossed the cigarette stub into a nearby trash can and looked down at An Muxin, his tone devoid of emotion, telling her, "Do you still want to marry ?"
Hearing this, An Muxin’s heart danced with joy.
She thought she was finally about to reach the end of her long struggle.
However, she couldn’t act too eager.
An Muxin hurriedly controlled her exhilaration to present a calm deanor and replied:
"Brother Yan, I have my pride. When you didn’t want , I drifted far. If you say you want back, should I imdiately and gladly go back and agree to marry you?"
She paused,
"I do want to beco your Mrs. Huo, but I don’t want to replace anyone. I want to be your only one. So, think about this seriously before asking ."
Huo Shaoyan’s gaze lingered on An Muxin’s face for a long ten seconds before he finally said, "You’ve grown a lot."
An Muxin managed a bitter smile, "People have to learn to grow from the hurts they’ve endured."
Just as they were talking, Huo Shaoyan’s subordinate knocked on the door and ca in, addressing Huo Shaoyan respectfully:
"Master, Master Xiao asked you to take this call; he said it’s urgent."
Upon hearing that, Huo Shaoyan pulled out his phone again.
In just a few minutes, Xiao Chaofeng had already dialed his number more than ten tis.
Feeling a mix of irritation, he finally answered Xiao Chaofeng’s call, his voice icy, "This better be life-or-death urgent..."
Xiao Chaofeng cut him off: "Your woman is close to death; does that count?"
Upon hearing this, Huo Shaoyan felt like his throat had suddenly been seized by an invisible hand, leaving him breathless and frantic.
