Facing Huo Shaoyan’s oppressive gaze, An Ge said calmly, "President Huo, there’s really no need to repeatedly test . Young Master Huo is not my son. If he were my son, could I have endured not recognizing him?"
Huo Shaoyan’s Phoenix Eyes never wavered as he looked at her, saying nothing.
An Ge continued from their previous topic, asking him, "So, there are quite a few opportunities for Young Master Huo to be alone with An Muxin?"
Huo Shaoyan knew he couldn’t pry information out of An Ge. He didn’t bother trying anymore. He answered the question she had asked, saying, "Not really. Every winter and sumr vacation, Huai Shang would go to live in the [Imperial City] with my mother. During those tis, if An Muxin had so free ti, she would take him back to the [An Family] to have fun."
Radiation is sothing that, as long as all the conditions are adequately prepared, can achieve the desired effect. An Muxin had the ti and relative conditions to commit such a cri. Therefore, An Ge had so reason to suspect An Muxin. Of course, without any evidence, she wouldn’t act rashly. Right now, she only needed to gain Huo Shaoyan’s trust.
So An Ge said to Huo Shaoyan, "I don’t an anything else by it. Since we’re going to remarry anyway, I just want to understand your son’s situation more. Is that too much?"
Huo Shaoyan humd in agreent. He didn’t overthink An Ge’s probing into Huo Huaisang’s condition. He said, "It’s alright. If you show an interest in the people or things around , it’s a good start. At least you are willing to understand my current situation."
An Ge asked Huo Shaoyan, "Regarding your son’s condition, what does his primary doctor think? Is there any way to completely cure it?"
Huo Shaoyan’s gaze turned a bit darker. He took a while before he said, "There is currently no effective cure."
After a pause, he added, "If my ntor Qin Huaisheng were still alive, she might have had a good solution."
ntioning Qin Huaisheng, Huo Shaoyan also thought of Qin Xiaoqi. He casually brought it up, asking An Ge, "My ntor Qin Huaisheng was a renowned dical talent both in China and abroad back then. Her daughter Qin Xiaoqi also had a very high talent in dicine. I rember she could assist my ntor in completing a heart transplant surgery when she was only ten. It’s a pity... they’re both gone."
An Ge was montarily lost in thought because of what Huo Shaoyan said. Was Qin Xiaoqi’s dical talent really so high? She couldn’t help but think of herself. Over the past five years, she had made the na Leo well-known in the industry, not because of the painstaking research and efforts she had put into dicine in those years, but because one day when she was bedridden and healing from an injury, she tried to pass ti by reading a neurology dical book and felt as if a new century’s door opened for her, awakening her latent dical talent. After that, she was surprised to find that she had a gift in dicine and could complete many complex surgeries on her own. In short, Huo Shaoyan’s words made An Ge connect herself with Qin Xiaoqi once again.
She wondered if it was possible that the mory she lost at seventeen due to a high fever might include her accomplishnts in dicine. Maybe she forgot the skills she had already learned because she lost her mory during that high fever. Perhaps one day, due to so chance, her inherent mory might have awakened, allowing her to face various complex surgeries with composure. In other words, was it possible that Qin Xiaoqi and she were the sa person? Did Qin Huaisheng go to great lengths to let her daughter live, changing her appearance at all costs and even swapping her mories to make her what she was today?
An Ge sweated with shock because of this bold guess.
Huo Shaoyan noticed her pale face. "What’s wrong?"
An Ge returned to her senses, "N...Nothing. I just suddenly feel a bit tired."
Huo Shaoyan said, "Let take you ho to rest."
An Ge felt uneasy about Huo Huaisang. She replied, "I won’t go back. I’ll stay with you."
Huo Shaoyan raised an eyebrow, "Feeling so kind?"
"If you don’t want to stay, I can leave now anyway."
An Ge said uneasily, "After all, you’re always suspicious of . If I’m a little nice to you, you think I have so ulterior motive. Staying here is just asking for trouble."
Huo Shaoyan raised a hand, resting it on her waist. When his fingers slightly tightened, he drew her into his arms entirely. Leaning down, his handso face ca closer to her, his thin lips kissing her smooth and full forehead.
Then he murmured a few soft words with tenderness, "No, I’m delighted if you want to stay with ."
An Ge deliberately put on a stern face, trying to remove his hand from her waist, "But you don’t look very happy."
Huo Shaoyan pinched her tender cheek gently, explaining softly, "Although I’m quite happy that you’re willing to stay with , the conditions in the hospital room are limited. There’s only one single bed for a companion. If you stay here, you won’t rest well."
An Ge’s gaze subtly shifted to the still-sleeping Huo Huaisang, but she spoke to Huo Shaoyan with a hint of tenderness, "But I want to stay with you."
Her words amused Huo Shaoyan. In the end, he agreed.
As Huo Shaoyan ntioned, the single bed was very narrow. Lying down with just Huo Shaoyan was already cramped, and adding her made it even tighter. An Ge felt as though she was entirely enveloped in Huo Shaoyan’s embrace. When she opened her eyes, she saw Huo Shaoyan’s handso face close at hand. He was evidently exhausted and fell into a deep sleep quickly.
An Ge had grown used to sleeping alone over the years, and she wasn’t accustod to being held so tightly by a man. Moreover, with chaotic thoughts in her mind, she couldn’t sleep. But she couldn’t move either. Every ti she tried to move, Huo Shaoyan would hold her tighter.
After a few such attempts, she felt like her body was about to go numb.
"Huo Shaoyan."
An Ge wanted to get up and lie down on the sofa, which would undoubtedly be better than being suffocated in Huo Shaoyan’s arms. She tried calling him, but the man was in a deep sleep and didn’t respond. She tried calling him again twice, but there was still no response.
Just as she decided to forcibly remove his hand from her waist, a slightly hoarse and indistinct male voice sounded in her ear, "Hmm?"
An Ge raised her head to look at him, seeing that he was still asleep, his handso face showing a hint of exhaustion, making her sowhat reluctant to wake him. "Continue to sleep, it’s nothing."
The man didn’t say anything for a while. As she tried to induce sleep in herself, his voice seed to co from afar, once more reaching her ear, "An An, all these years, I missed you so much."
An Ge was startled for a mont. The hint of sleepiness she had sohow managed to gather vanished entirely. She opened her eyes and looked at the handso face so close to hers. At this mont, he had opened his eyes, and the redness in them was heavy, to the point of a hint of wetness, "I also regret how I treated you back then."
An Ge’s fingers curled slightly as she looked at him but remained silent.
Huo Shaoyan lowered his gaze to her fair and delicate face, his voice growing even softer, "So, no matter what your purpose is for coming back to approach , as long as I still have a breath, I won’t let you go again."
An Ge’s heart tightened, struggling with feelings she couldn’t quite identify, a bit painful and stifling. "Actually, you might as well just stab a few tis, anywhere but not the heart. I still want to have a chance for a future with you."
An Ge’s heart twisted tighter, her finger clenched more on the man’s chest.
Huo Shaoyan continued speaking, "Give a quick death; it’s much better than hidden daggers emotionally. Soft blades hurt more than hard wounds. Sotis, I feel like I might be driven crazy by you. Do you know that?"
An Ge gave a bitter smile, saying nothing. Because the tornt was mutual. Like right now, when she clearly didn’t want to get closer to him, yet she was forcing herself into his arms, trying hard to please him. This, too, was a form of tornt.
Huo Shaoyan spoke many heartfelt words to her but didn’t get a single response from An Ge, so he simply stopped talking. He was a bit disappointed. He could confirm that her initiative to throw herself into his arms tonight was largely an act for him. Did she truly have no affection for him at all?
An Ge didn’t recall when she fell asleep, but when she woke up the next morning, the first thing she saw was a pair of distinct black and white eyes peering at her.
The little fellow was caught red-handed watching her, feeling a bit embarrassed. His ears turned a shade of red as he explained, "Dad told not to wake you, so I was just watching you from the bedside."
An Ge sat up, "Sorry, I was supposed to stay with you, but I fell asleep. Do you feel any better now?"
Huo Huaisang replied, "It’s nothing now. Aunt Muxin gave a blood transfusion, which has helped control my condition."
An Ge leaned over to hug him and placed him on the bed, "Do you... like An Muxin?"
Huo Huaisang thought for a mont, then replied, "Do you not like her?"
An Ge paused, gently touching his little face, and said, "It’s not about liking or disliking."
Huo Huaisang said, "Sa here."
He paused, then added, "Although she’s very kind to , it’s only because she wants to marry Dad, so she wants to win over. However, she did save my life, and that’s an undeniable fact. So, I should respect her."
An Ge felt that Huo Huaisang was well-educated, having solid values. She tousled his thick black hair and smiled, asking, "Where’s your dad?"
Huo Huaisang answered, "Grandma ca over early this morning. As soon as she walked in, she saw you and Dad sleeping in the sa bed. Before she could get angry, Dad took her out of the room. They should be talking outside now."
An Ge got up out of bed, "Have you washed your face and brushed your teeth?"
Huo Huaisang nodded obediently, "I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and had breakfast."
After saying this, he timorously asked An Ge, "Dad and Grandma aren’t here... Can I call you Mom?"
An Ge leaned down, hugging him with a smile, "Of course, you can."
His mom slled sweet and soft, causing Huo Huaisang to blush, "Mom."
An Ge felt her heart lt from being called "Mom." Her eyes tinged with emotion.
"Mom, can you forgive Dad for the hurt he caused you before?"
The underlying aning of this question was, Mom, can you reconcile with Dad? An Ge wasn’t foolish; she understood that Huo Huaisang yearned for a complete family. So, she was rendered speechless by his question.
