...
It was around ten in the evening.
After An Ge had put the two little ones to sleep, she t with Lu Huai’an for a talk in the living room downstairs.
Lu Huai’an threw a file folder onto the coffee table in the living room and said, "Young Master Huo’s subordinate has completed the investigation. Open it and take a look."
For a mont, An Ge didn’t realize what Lu Huai’an was referring to.
As she opened the file folder, she asked, "What matter has already been investigated?"
Lu Huai’an gave her a sidelong glance and said, "People say that pregnancy makes one silly for three years. You gave birth to a pair of twins, so are you going to be silly for six years? What’s with your mory? Didn’t you ask Young Master Huo to investigate An Baoying’s situation from five years ago when she was supposedly nursing a pregnancy abroad?"
An Ge suddenly understood, responding with an apologetic tone, "There’s been so much going on lately. My mind’s been a ss, and I nearly forgot about it."
By the ti she spoke, she had already opened the file folder.
In about three minutes, she had absorbed all the information in the docunts.
After reading the file, her brow furrowed deeply, and a fierce rage lingered in her eyes.
Lu Huai’an looked at her and said, "They say the most venomous heart belongs to a woman. I used to doubt that, but now I’m truly speechless. This An Baoying is so wicked that soone like even wants to bring justice on behalf of the heavens."
Pausing, he continued, "So, what are your plans?"
The information revealed that An Baoying was never pregnant five years ago.
The early pregnancy symptoms she exhibited were due to taking fake pregnancy drugs bought from the black market.
When she couldn’t keep up the act through mid-pregnancy, she made an excuse to go abroad to ’nurse the pregnancy.’
If it weren’t for the scheming of An Baoying and Bai ilan, An Ge felt she wouldn’t have suffered such humiliation five years ago. At the least, her children would have been born peacefully.
Furthermore, since Mother Wen’s death was orchestrated by Bai ilan, An Ge was far from willing to be lenient with An Baoying and Bai ilan.
She decided to fight fire with fire.
Thinking of this, An Ge told Lu Huai’an, "An Zhiguo has likely been instigated by to secretly conduct a paternity test on himself and An Baoying. When the test results co out proving they are not biological father and daughter, An Zhiguo won’t let Bai ilan off. After their dogfight, I’ll take this evidence and personally send them to jail."
Lu Huai’an raised an eyebrow and gave her a long look before saying, "In that case, won’t Huo Huaisang’s identity be exposed? An Baoying was never pregnant, but Huo Huaisang is indeed Huo Shaoyan’s son. It’s easy for Huo Shaoyan to find out that Huo Huaisang was born by you. And as for Huanhuan, her identity will be exposed sooner or later."
Lu Huai’an’s words were piercing, but An Ge remained calm.
She said, "There’s enough ti. I’ll arrange for Huo Shaoyan to perform the liver transplant surgery to save Huanhuan within three months." She paused for a few seconds and asked Lu Huai’an, "When will you return to the Imperial City?"
Lu Huai’an replied, "I’ll be leaving soon." Then, he added, "The family elders are pressing for the arranged marriage with the Gu Family’s heiress. I can’t refuse."
An Ge acknowledged this and objectively comnted, "Ms. Gu might be a bit assertive, but she’s a decent person. You’re the one who doesn’t deserve her, so stop nitpicking about others."
Lu Huai’an, feeling annoyed, said gruffly, "What do you know? Marrying a woman who’s beneficial for the family but not the one you love is a pain you don’t understand."
An Ge scoffed, "You, who once led a life of debauchery, shouldn’t get to have love. How many good girls have you wronged in the past?"
Lu Huai’an protested, "Even three-year-olds know not to hit where it hurts. Can you leave a bit of dignity?"
An Ge shifted the topic to more serious matters, saying, "I’m worried that after the incident at the kindergarten, Jiang Fengmian will go and blab to Huo Shaoyan. Huo Shaoyan is naturally suspicious, and he might choose to redo the paternity test. Would you help take Huanhuan to the Imperial City for a few days? I’ll wait and see if Huo Shaoyan shows any inclination to order a new DNA paternity test, and if not, I’ll bring Huanhuan back."
"Alright."
Just as Lu Huai’an took the sleeping Huo Chenghuan away from Fusheng Residence, Huo Shaoyan arrived.
As their cars brushed past each other, the two exchanged looks through their car windows, the tension sparking like static electricity.
Lu Huai’an, ever the instigator, even rolled down his window to flash a pinky at Huo Shaoyan.
Had Huo Shaoyan not been eager to see An Ge, he would’ve dragged Lu Huai’an out for a beating right there.
When An Ge received a call from the gatekeeper, notifying her of Huo Shaoyan’s visit, she was just about to return to her room to rest.
She hadn’t expected Huo Shaoyan, who was supposed to be in Lin’an, to co back so urgently.
Imdiately, she guessed the reason.
If she blocked him from entering, Huo Shaoyan would beco even more suspicious.
With this in mind, An Ge allowed the gatekeeper to let him in.
When Huo Shaoyan drove into the parking lot of Fusheng Residence, An Ge was already standing there.
Under the lights, she wore a black long dress, with her long, thick, seaweed-like hair cascading down her back. Her whole being emitted an indescribable allure.
Before opening the car door to get out, Huo Shaoyan forced himself to suppress the emotions churning inside. He couldn’t afford to let An Ge see his turmoil.
After all, this woman had a strong sense of wariness toward him.
Once he had composed himself, Huo Shaoyan opened the car door and stepped out.
On his upper body, he wore a black shirt, without a tie, the collar loosely unfastened by two buttons, while his lower body was clad in black trousers. His outfit style was not much different from usual, but the feeling he gave An Ge had changed sowhat.
There was a colossal dark aura about him, yet beneath this darkness lay an intense, lingering softness.
As he approached, An Ge took the initiative, "President Huo, what brings you here in such a hurry?"
Huo Shaoyan looked at her and said, "You called during the day, saying you wanted to talk. What did you want to discuss?"
An Ge felt a bit guilty. At the ti, she had impulsively wanted to tell Huo Shaoyan about Huo Chenghuan’s true parentage, but now that she had cald down, she definitely wouldn’t say it.
Therefore, she made up an excuse, "I just wanted to discuss relocating my mother’s grave." She paused, "And you? What did you want to see about?"
An Ge was referring to Mother Wen when she ntioned her mother.
Huo Shaoyan replied, "Nothing in particular, can’t I just co to see you?"
Raising an eyebrow, An Ge said, "Our agreent hasn’t officially started yet, so eting in private isn’t quite right."
A breeze blew through, lifting the hem of An Ge’s skirt and her long hair. Under the lights, she appeared even more dazzling.
Huo Shaoyan raised his hand, letting his palm fall against her waist. With slight force, he pulled AnGe into his embrace.
An Ge looked up, and the man cupped her chin.
His lips t hers suddenly and passionately, their urgency conveying an air of entwinent.
An Ge, with a slight frown, pushed him away, saying, "President Huo, if you ca to seek romance, I’m sorry to say my mood isn’t quite right tonight..."
Huo Shaoyan brushed past her lips, looking at her with inscrutable Phoenix Eyes, and asked, "What did Lu Huai’an want?"
An Ge smiled lightly, teasingly replying, "President Huo, even if our agreent officially starts, we have no right to inquire about each other’s private matters. Just as I won’t ask about you and An Mu’s rather... cozy night together."
Huo Shaoyan’s expression instantly turned unpleasant.
But An Ge ignored it, intent on seeing him off, "President Huo, it’s late. You’ve kissed , hugged —cannot you let rest now? I’m really tired..."
"I’m not leaving tonight."
An Ge: "..."
Huo Shaoyan continued, "I don’t want to leave. Can I stay?"
An Ge pressed her lips together, looking at him steadfastly, "President Huo, until you have resolved things with An Mu, there’s no way I’m letting you sleep over."
Pausing, she added with a hint of suggestion, "I’ve heard Commander An is planning to visit Jingcheng. I don’t want soone so powerful and influential walking in on us. I care about my reputation, with children to think about, even if you don’t."
Taking a step back, Huo Shaoyan suggested, "Then arrange a guest room for —I won’t stay with you."
Frowning, An Ge didn’t understand, asking, "President Huo, haven’t you managed just fine these years without ? Why cling on to now?"
Huo Shaoyan’s throat bobbed for a mont, then said quietly, "I’ll co back tomorrow."
He only wanted to integrate into her current life, to understand her as she was now.
The more he understood, the calr his heart could be.
Yet she was unwilling.
He could only temporarily yield.
He also wanted to see her daughter, but she clearly didn’t.
Upon returning to Fengqiao Villa, Huo Shaoyan received a call from Qin Lang, who reported, "Master, by the ti we reached Miss An Muxin’s residence in Lin’an, she had already left for the Imperial City under her bodyguard Gu Changfeng’s arrangent."
Huo Shaoyan pinched his brow, "Have everyone withdraw."
After pondering a mont, Qin Lang added, "I’ve heard Commander An fell ill and was hospitalized because of this incident. Rumors in the Imperial City suggest he might need another chest surgery. Six months ago, he had a heart surgery, and due to this relapse, it’s said that only the dical genius Leo can ensure a high success rate. But Leo is very elusive, and inviting him isn’t easy..." Pausing for implication, he continued, "We believe that if we can secure this mysterious doctor Leo for the surgery, it might ease your process of annulling the engagent with An Muxin. What do you think?"
Huo Shaoyan lit a cigarette and, after a period of silent reflection, said, "Begin investigating Leo’s whereabouts."
Qin Lang remarked, "I’ve heard his dical assistant Anna is currently in Jingcheng. This Anna should serve as a breakthrough."
Huo Shaoyan acknowledged and ended the call with Qin Lang.
Afterward, Huo Shaoyan dialed An Ge’s number.
He simply wanted to see if she was willing to answer.
Surprisingly, An Ge not only answered but did so quickly.
"President Huo, you really like now, don’t you? To the point of wanting to be with all the ti," she teased.
Huo Shaoyan silently withheld for a mont before saying, "Jiang Fengmian told that your daughter and his daughter got into a fight at kindergarten. Your daughter told everyone I was her biological father. Is that true?"
Upon hearing this, An Ge’s heart jumped to her throat, panic rushing through her.
