Yu Sheng suddenly opened his eyes.
But he only saw a chaotic and hazy glow—as if sothing had ford a heavy veil that interfered with his vision, hearing, and even spiritual intuition, blocking all probing attempts trying to penetrate the veil. He couldn’t see the other side clearly; the sounds he heard were a buzzing rumble, allowing him to vaguely judge that there were countless shadowy figures moving on the other side of the veil.
He felt as if he were traveling like the wind among countless faceless crowds, but suddenly his perspective lifted swiftly, transforming into an aerial view of everything. Then, he felt as if he had beco one of the people in the crowd, solemnly waiting for sothing to happen.
And all of this was shrouded by the heavy veil.
He saw those blurry figures circulating around sothing extrely large, seemingly forming formations, while soone guided sothing from the air. Occasionally, streaks of light flew toward the massive object, lighting up patterns on its surface.
He heard indistinct voices nearby—
"... sent to the Nine Heavens... if all is well... awaiting the remolding of mountains and rivers..."
Suddenly, the view before Yu Sheng shook violently, the surroundings rapidly darkened as if night had fallen. While he was pondering what happened, he saw countless fireflies flying toward the sky, mingled with many enormous objects; so looked like towers and palaces, others appeared like floating mountains and islands, while giant beasts emitted long, low murmurs in the high sky.
Urgent drumbeats sounded, boom boom boom boom.
But Yu Sheng soon realized that they were not drumbeats; it was his heart.
His heart was beating rapidly without his control, his blood drumming in his eardrums in a phantom noise, while so intense "intent" continued to rise in his mind, piercing directly into his brain as though crossing through ti and space—
Quickly, quickly, quickly.
Use all thods at your disposal, use all thods, try whichever might work.
The Emperor has commanded, saturated self-preservation.
Saturated self-preservation, support the sky veil, unleash the Immortal Boat, sacrifice oneself to integrate with the path, dismantle tendons and bones, infuse into the earth’s veins, dig tunnels underground, carve words on stones, leave a mark in the Earth’s core, let out a roar between heaven and earth, fly outward, as far away as possible, dig downward, as deep as possible...
Each plays their part, each plays their part, the Emperor commands!
The intense intent howled like a storm in the Mind, a fervent tide ford by millions seed to create a powerful force field, passively "radiating" its power outward.
But Yu Sheng didn’t feel affected by this power; he was still trying to observe his surroundings, wanting to peer through that thick veil to see what was on the other side.
However, at that mont, he suddenly felt sothing.
His "gaze" instantly settled on another spot beyond the veil.
There lay an entity, seemingly independently active... a "Mind".
Yu Sheng was startled; at first, he thought it was so presence within the veil that detected his probing and erged from history, but he quickly realized that the abruptly appearing entity was not part of the veil, rather a "watcher" similar to himself.
Is there soone else here?
Just as Yu Sheng had this thought, he suddenly sensed that the "extra watcher’s" gaze fell upon him.
The other party has discovered him.
That gaze carried shock; while Yu Sheng was still wondering about the other’s identity, a "voice" suddenly pierced through his head, exploding directly in his heart: "Who are you?!"
Before he could react, he saw the entity charge straight toward him, and it carried dire killing intent and fury: "Do not dare to touch! How could the Emperor’s Legacy fall into the hands of re scoundrels!"
Yu Sheng had no idea what was happening; he rely noticed that the other ntioned "Emperor’s Legacy", his mind swiftly linking it to the myriad illusions he had seen in the veil, yet physically he couldn’t evade the charging entity—not because his reflexes were slow, but because he was entering this veil for the first ti, entirely unprepared on how to "move" in this bewildering space.
The next mont, he saw that indistinct shadow directly "collide" with him.
The other might have thrust a sword? Or perhaps threw a punch? He couldn’t see clearly, the veils severely affecting perception distorted the foe’s figure into chaotic form, Yu Sheng rely felt his "projection" here being pierced by the opponent’s "projection", yet he didn’t experience any pain or discomfort because he was but a shadow here.
But that guy who crashed into him suddenly retreated far back.
Waves of pale smoke rose between him and Yu Sheng, the other’s body seed to be burned by sothing, rapidly eroding in the smoke, this inexplicable attacker let out a muffled groan and sent a gaze full of apprehension while suppressing the erosion on his body.
"Good!" He spoke angrily, yet with a hint of admiration, "You truly are skilled, fellow Daoist! No wonder you dare to probe the Emperor’s Legacy! I rember this—though today I am rely a wisp of spirit here, if you insist on contending, we shall et again another day to test our skills!"
As his words fell, the indistinct figure turned and left, disappearing miles away in the blink of an eye.
Yu Sheng was still bewildered; he hadn’t done anything from start to finish, nor even spoken a word. The other just charged over and then retreated with internal injury, ending with self-admiration and dropping two formal lines before departing; who could understand what kind of approach that was?
"Hey, wait!" Yu Sheng stared in the direction where the figure vanished, couldn’t help but shout loudly, "Who are you?!"
Just as he finished speaking, that indistinct figure truly "shushed" back instantly, dragging his half-smoky body and bowed to Yu Sheng: "I am Yun Qingzi."
Yu Sheng: "..."
The smoking figure turned and left once more, quickly disappearing again.
Yu Sheng stood dumbfounded in place, unresponsive for quite a while, only feeling that the other’s spirit seed very abnormal.
Then he shook his head, ready to leave this inexplicable place.
But just as he was about to open a doorway to return to reality, that smoking figure dashed over again.
Yu Sheng was startled, instinctively assuming a defensive posture—though the other hadn’t hard him before when colliding, seeing such a nerve-wracking fellow dash around in the mist, who wouldn’t be scared?
However, the figure stopped a few ters away, staring straight at Yu Sheng through the hazy veil: "In my rush earlier, I forgot to ask—who are you?"
Yu Sheng: "..."
He finally confird that this guy in front of him really wasn’t right in the head.
"My na is Yu Sheng." He said casually.
Yu Sheng didn’t hide his na—not because of so reason like "the other person has already introduced themselves so it’s polite to respond," but because he simply didn’t care.
"Alright, I’ll rember that." The figure calling himself "Yun Qingzi" nodded, then with a smoky body, clasped his hands towards Yu Sheng, and turned to leave.
Yu Sheng watched with an amused and helpless expression as the figure walked away again, realizing that when soone is at a loss for words, they really do laugh.
But he suddenly beca a bit curious—would the person co back again?
With this slightly odd thought in mind, Yu Sheng stopped his motion of leaving through the door for the mont and waited there.
He didn’t even know what his own mindset was at this mont.
In the end, he waited for a long ti, but the person didn’t show up—it seed this ti Yun Qingzi had really left.
"Alright, it seems he hasn’t gone completely crazy."
Yu Sheng muttered, shook his head, and finally opened the door to leave.
The next second, he felt a dizziness in his mind, the five senses of the real world quickly returned to him, and when he opened his eyes again, he was already back in the living room of No. 66 Wutong Road.
He discovered that at so point he had beco lying on the sofa, with Hu Li’s tail as a pillow under his neck, holding a tail in his arms, and even covered with two fluffy tails.
Hu Li was curled up on the yoga mat beside the sofa, also holding one of his own big fluffy tails and sleeping soundly.
Yu Sheng rubbed his eyes, rolled over, sat up, and organized his sowhat muddled mind.
He recalled scene after scene that he saw in the "illusion," confirming that those were not so-called "dreams."
Including that eccentric "Yun Qingzi" who appeared at the end.
The illusions he saw behind the curtain, were they the so-called "Emperor’s Legacy"? Or clues to the "Emperor’s Legacy"?
What was with those intense collective thoughts? They seed to be preparing to resist an apocalyptic disaster... was it the "Annihilation" catastrophe?
Was it information leaking over from the old world again?
Why was he seeing these things?
Who exactly was that "Yun Qingzi"?
Yu Sheng frowned, feeling it necessary to speak to True Man Yuanling about this matter.
Just then, a voice from across the coffee table interrupted Yu Sheng’s sowhat chaotic thoughts.
"Bro, you’re awake?"
Yu Sheng looked up and saw the long-haired princess sitting across the coffee table—and her pile of dreaded holiday howork.
Yu Sheng was shocked on the spot: "... You still haven’t finished those hundred words?!"
"That’s the last hundred words of the essay!" Long Hair’s expression was as if the sky had fallen, her eyebrows almost twisted into water from the worry, "I’ve already tried adding commas and ’de/dì’ wherever I could, even filling each ellipsis with six spaces, and I’m still four lines short..."
Yu Sheng: "..."
A mont later, he glanced at the empty cushion beside Long Hair: "Where’s the rmaid?"
"Cinderella ca to find her, and the two of them took a bunch of little kiddos for a picnic in the orchard," the long-haired princess said, tears almost falling down, "Red Hat wouldn’t let go, said I must finish the last four lines, said now that I’m in my first year of high school, my essay must be complete at least once."
Yu Sheng listened to her complaints with a mix of speechlessness and sympathy, finally sighed, pulled out his phone to send a ssage to True Man Yuanling saying he would be over later to discuss sothing, then walked over to Long Hair’s side: "Alright, let see your essay."
"Alrighty!" The long-haired princess instantly brightened up, quickly holding up the language test paper, "Just help with three lines! I’ve already thought of the last sentence myself!"
Although capable of tearing demons apart with her hands, she’s ultimately still just a child.
Yu Sheng subconsciously sighed this in his heart, then took the paper, his eyes landing on the final part of the essay.
Essay Title:
"My Brother Yu Sheng".
First line:
"My brother Yu Sheng often suffers from chronic illnesses, but he is always strong and optimistic..."
After a mont of silence, Yu Sheng lifted his eyes, looking at the long-haired princess sitting by the coffee table grinning up at him.
That look was downright like a mischievous golden retriever, full of sches.
"Long Hair."
"What’s up, bro?"
"Write it yourself!"
