Jiang An turned around in astonishnt to look at her hand that was being held by the man, a thin veil of confusion rising across her face as she whispered softly, "Dr. Gao, you’re drunk."
The man who was still sitting on the bed slightly raised his head, exchanging a glance with Jiang An at the bedside. His originally sharp eyes twinkled faintly before he lowered his head slowly and said, "I know."
Jiang An: "..."
Her hand was gently kneaded by the man as he stared intently at her palm, taking a long while before he finally, with a child-like bewildernt, called out her na, "Jiang An..."
Lowering her gaze to the man whose complexion was flushed, Jiang An thought he was about to say sothing to her, but after a long wait she heard nothing more, leaving her sowhat at a loss.
It seed like he always loved calling her na.
Both remained silent, looking at the contrastingly cute Dr. Gao who was drunk in bed. Jiang An’s heart instantly softened; she hadn’t expected to capture such an endearing side of Dr. Gao.
Just as she was staring at the man with his head bowed, contemplating whether to reach out and stroke his head, the man suddenly slightly lifted the hand that he had been holding and slowly brought it to his cheek. The next second, completely catching her off guard, his thin lips lightly touched it, as gentle as an exceedingly docile lamb.
Noticing the man’s sudden action, Jiang An instinctively hurried to withdraw her hand, her face turning crimson as she stamred, "Dr. Gao, you should rest." Then, she dashed out of the room in a fluster.
The girl closed the door behind her and stood still, gently touching the spot on her hand where the man had kissed - it was hot and damp.
Staring at the retreating figure of the girl as she hurried away, the man sat bedazzled on the bed, his brow furrowing as he lay back down, closing his eyes with the image of an embarrassed Jiang An filling his vision.
After finally calming down, Jiang An intended to walk downstairs when she turned her head and noticed a silhouette leaning against the hallway, smoking. The woman was draped in a pure black strapless gown, her deep chestnut hair ssily scattered over her shoulders. Amid the swirling smoke, her face was indistinct, but even the re act of leaning over the balcony to smoke was enough to make one surrender to her allure.
Jiang An had nearly made the acquaintance of every relative in the Gao Family that morning, yet she hadn’t seen this person before. Thus, she walked closer and upon seeing the woman’s face, her mouth dropped open in shock.
"Ji Wanwan!" The girl almost shouted out loud, her expression one of disbelief.
The woman who was smoking lazily turned her head and noticed the girl who had unknowably approached. A ripple of emotion flickered in her eyes; perceiving a stranger, she instinctively assud she was part of the Gao Family, and her expression fell.
"It really is you, oh my gosh, I actually... saw you in person, you’re so beautiful!" Jiang An stamred excitedly in front of the woman like a little fan, completely forgetting to question why Ji Wanwan would be at the Gao Family ho.
The two drew gradually closer, and thick white smoke wafted into the girl’s nostrils, causing her to cough a few tis. Nonetheless, she looked at Ji Wanwan with adoring starry eyes, full of admiration.
Ji Wanwan, who had always had a less-than-stellar reputation in the Gao Family, slowly extinguished the cigarette in her hand, her eyes shining like stars as she looked down at the girl who suddenly appeared before her. The girl had delicate features, a pair of watery large eyes intently fixed on her, a slightly upturned nose, and a round face that was the very image of youth.
Upon seeing her, Ji Wanwan slowly connected the dots with what Gao Yu had told her yesterday about Gao Chuan getting married. She asked indifferently, "You are... Jiang An?"
Just now in the living room, she had been listening to the elders singing Jiang An’s praises until her ears nearly grew calluses, since the people of the Gao Family hardly paid her any attention and she had no choice but to co here for a cigarette to ease her fatigue.
Hearing that Ji Wanwan knew her na, Jiang An nearly had her heart leap out, "Yes, yes, Wanwan, I was just watching your drama these past few days."
Although Ji Wanwan had heard about Gao Chuan’s sudden wedding from those people, seeing Jiang An now stirred sothing inside her. Having married into the Gao Family three years ago, she always had a contentious relationship with Shen i, but she still had so understanding of the household. Gao Chuan, who had been a classic eligible bachelor, now suddenly married, and to such an innocent-looking girl before her, it also took Ji Wanwan by surprise. Hearing the girl’s admiration for her, she replied nonchalantly, "Didn’t Gao Chuan tell you to stay away from ?"
Jiang An, who was ready to ask for an autograph, was taken aback at the comnt. It was then she realized that this was the Gao Family, and Ji Wanwan’s presence ant she was a mber of the Gao Family. She rembered overhearing the elders that morning talking about a celebrity being the second daughter-in-law of the Gao Family; she opened her mouth wide in shock, "Ah! You’re my sister-in-law?"
Ji Wanwan watched the girl’s face change to one of astonishnt upon realizing this, making no comnt on her address.
With such an innocent look, she wondered how this girl managed to catch Gao Chuan, such a cold creature. She was curious inside; she didn’t really want to have anything to do with the Gao Family, just go through the motions and help Gao Yu maintain so semblance of face.
And for a woman like her, Shen i would probably automatically advise her to stay away, right?
As Ji Wanwan was contemplating this, a gentle voice from the girl reached her ears, "Ah, that’s great! Hello, sister-in-law, I’m Jiang An."
Ji Wanwan turned her head to look at the girl’s innocent face, and found herself at a loss for words, rely responding with a simple "Hmm."
Having been accustod to the deceit and pretense of the entertainnt industry, the sudden appearance of such a pure young girl was a refreshing change for Ji Wanwan. She heard the girl continue to ask, "Sister-in-law, why don’t you co downstairs?"
Ji Wanwan’s eyes visibly darkened, and she looked out the window at the treetops, replying coldly, "No need."
Jiang An, recalling the relatives’ criticism of Ji Wanwan from the morning, seed to understand the reason for it, and was about to say sothing more to Ji Wanwan when a servant called out to her from upstairs, "Second Young Madam, the old madam is calling you to cut the cake."
Jiang An nodded and agreed, and seeing Ji Wanwan there alone smoking dejectedly, she asked with concern, "Sister-in-law, do you want to co with us?"
"No thanks." Ji Wanwan declined flatly and walked away from the window, leaving behind a lonely departing figure.
Jiang An was still imrsed in the joy of becoming relatives with the celebrity she admired and trotted downstairs, oblivious to the shift in Ji Wanwan’s mood just monts before.
