Jiang An spent three days hiding at school, and Dr. Gao didn’t send any more ssages to ask about her, leaving Gao Chuan with no way of dealing with her.

Knowing she was avoiding him, Gao Chuan seed already used to dealing with Jiang An, who acted like a scaredy-cat, and he went on with his work at the hospital as if the incident that night had been automatically erased by both of them.

Just when Jiang An was feeling smug about her cleverness, fate struck her down. Usually helping Professor Chen with his work, she went to submit her results but suddenly heard a familiar voice. Looking up, she saw Gao Chuan standing at the office door chatting with Professor Chen. Panicked, she quickly redirected her gaze and buried herself in her work, her heartbeat unmistakably betraying her.

Jiang An thought that ti would bury all her feelings, but seeing Dr. Gao nearly a week later still made her face turn red.

Gao Chuan took advantage of his ti off to catch up with Professor Chen and unexpectedly ran into his shy Xiao Jiang An in the office. The man glanced at the girl, who was earnestly focused on her work, the very picture of a Little Ostrich, almost burying her head into her books.

Professor Chen noticed Gao Chuan staring distractedly at his student and took the initiative to call Jiang An over, setting up the connection: "Jiang An, this is your Senior Brother Gao. You t him before; he’s also your senior. If you do your internship at the hospital, you might still receive his care."

It was a general consensus among all teachers and students that Jiang An, always top of her class, would go to the City Hospital. Professor Chen was simply thinking about paving the way for his beloved student, entrusting Gao Chuan to take good care of Jiang An when the ti ca. Jiang An nodded politely the whole ti with a constrained expression, her mind in complete disarray.

Gao Chuan, brow lowered, watched the girl pretending to be calm, her lips forming a thin line. The two exchanged glances unwittingly and quickly averted their eyes in front of Professor Chen, Jiang An’s cheeks flushing with the sudden illusion of having a secret affair with Dr. Gao.

When Jiang An finished the task in her hands and looked up to see Gao Chuan still happily chatting with Professor Chen, she lowered her head and carefully reviewed her report once again. Ti quietly slipped by, and by evening the whole sky was tinged with blood red, mixed with a hint of orange. The conversation finally ended, and Professor Chen, seeing the girl was still around, impulsively suggested the two go have a al together, "Jiang An, take this opportunity to learn from your ntor. Your Senior Brother Gao is now the top person at the city hospital."

Encouraged so warmly by her ntor, Jiang An naturally found it hard to refuse and ended up following Gao Chuan out of Professor Chen’s office. The two walked quietly one after the other until they exited the academic building, where Jiang An finally heard Gao Chuan asking, "What do you want to eat, little junior sister?"

With the label ’little junior sister,’ Jiang An was completely flustered, realizing that Gao Chuan was teasing her, her face instantly flushed.

Gao Chuan turned around to look at the shy girl who seed so different from the one who had been drunk that day.

If he hadn’t co to the school today and bumped into her by chance, who knows how long she could have kept avoiding him.

"Whatever Dr. Gao decides is fine," the girl replied.

Clouds and rosy light drifted across the horizon, the setting sun casting fluttering shadows over the two, one in front of the other.

"Eat at ho?" Gao Chuan suggested, now walking side by side with the girl.

Caught off guard by the suggestion, Jiang An was montarily startled but obediently nodded. Thinking that if they were to eat at ho she would need to stay over, she told Gao Chuan to wait while she went back to her dorm to grab so things, and Gao Chuan agreed to et her at the school gate.

The man waited until Jiang An had left and then went to the school gate, his phone suddenly vibrating in his pocket. An ergency call from the hospital reported a sudden incident, prompting Gao Chuan to get in the car and head to the hospital first.

Having just packed her things, Jiang An saw a WeChat ssage from Gao Chuan and felt a tug at her heartstrings, rapidly replying, "It’s okay, Dr. Gao, go ahead and take care of it."

After putting down her phone, Jiang An lay down on her dorm bed and let out a breath of relief, feeling much lighter without having to interact with Dr. Gao, though she had anticipated developing feelings for Dr. Gao since agreeing to marry him, she hadn’t realized how strong these feelings would be and was struggling to accept them.

If heartbeats without outco were bound to occur, how was she to face Dr. Gao in the future?

In fact, she had felt sowhat immoral since Gao Chuan brought up marriage, knowing Dr. Gao needed a partner who could share his worries, while she needed a safe harbor in this city.

She greedily thought about building a ho for herself but hadn’t expected that the castle in the air would only be an empty shell. Thus, when she fell into this inevitably unreciprocated infatuation, a sense of gain and loss misled her.

One of the patients in the departnt had a tumor that suddenly worsened. When Gao Chuan arrived, they imdiately started surgery since the patient was a pregnant woman, and the tumor’s surgical reservation beca tricky. After stabilizing the situation, a consultant eting was called in the hospital. Gao Chuan and others intensely discussed and finally decided, considering the fetus, to temporarily preserve the tumor.

After a day and night of relentless work to stabilize the pregnant woman’s condition, the head of the hospital ordered an exhausted Gao Chuan to take a leave and go ho to rest. It wasn’t until he drove ho that the man rembered that he had ghosted Jiang An because of work the day before. In the darkness, he picked up his phone to send her a ssage, glanced out at the torrential rain through the window, and eventually put down his phone and fell into a deep sleep.

Gao Chuan was awakened the next noon by a phone call from Shen i, her loud voice suddenly bringing him a lot of clarity. Hearing Shen i ask, "Why are you still asleep? Hurry up and get up to pick up Anan."

"Jiang An? What happened to her?" The man sat up in bed, furrowing his brows.

Shen i, hearing he knew nothing, was a bit angry, "Didn’t Anan tell you? She went to the mountains to ask for a prescription for the old lady and got trapped there because of the heavy rain, unable to get a taxi. Since you’re off, hurry up and go pick up Anan."

Listening to Shen i’s words, Gao Chuan thought Jiang An might have ntioned it before, agreed to Shen i, hung up, and then found Jiang An’s number in his contact list, but the phone was busy. Cutting off the call, the man imdiately headed out following the address Shen i had provided.
