Chapter 250: Don’t Make Worry Anymore

"I want to sleep here tonight."

The chandelier in the living room cast a soft glow, clearly illuminating Gao Chuan’s calm face as he sat on the sofa and tilted his head to her.

Standing behind the sofa, Jiang An stared at him in astonishnt, her heart skipping a beat.

She wondered how shaless the man in front of her must be to utter such flirtatious words so calmly and confidently.

"What a joke, this is my ho. Get going," Jiang An lifted her head to check the ti on the clock and gestured for the man to head ho.

"I can’t rest assured with you sleeping alone," Gao Chuan detected her resistance and remained unmovable on the sofa, speaking seriously.

Jiang An rolled her eyes, wondering what trick the man was up to tonight. She walked past the sofa to his side and rebutted coldly, "What’s there to worry about? I lived just fine by myself abroad for four years..."

The words had barely left her mouth when Jiang An abruptly stopped, realizing the loneliness that lay heavy in her heart after her hasteful remark.

Indeed, what was there to worry about? During those solitary years in the States, she had survived.

The man sitting on the sofa tensed at her words, his expression darkening.

Four years, the four years they lost.

Jiang An quickly collected herself, her tone noticeably softer, "Really, it’s fine. Yesterday’s incident was just an accident."

She tried to reach out and tug at Gao Chuan’s arm, hoping to drive him out the door, but her feeble strength proved trivial against the tall and sturdy Gao Chuan.

She used all her might, yet the man still sat immobile on the sofa.

Unfazed as a mountain in the wind and rain.

Jiang An, frustrated at being unable to budge the "pig" in front of her, stampeded beside him and pretended to take out her phone threatfully stating, "Are you leaving or not? I can call the police for a break-in in the middle of the night..."

Before she could finish, the man in front of her grabbed her wrist. With just a slight exertion of force, he authoritatively snatched the phone from her hand.

Jiang An instinctively bent down trying to snatch it back, but Gao Chuan pulled her into his embrace. It wasn’t until she stumbled and sat down on his legs with an "Ah" that he slowly let go of her hand.

His familiar scent was just inches away, and he took in a sharp breath.

"Jiang An, don’t make worry about you anymore," his husky voice brushed past her ear, stirring ripples in her heart like a dragonfly skimming water.

Jiang An looked straight at Gao Chuan in front of her, the man staring intently back, his cold eyes capturing all her vulnerabilities like bait.

After a long ti, the woman blushed and averted her gaze from his, hastily getting off him and scurrying into her bedroom.

Hooligan!

If he wanted to sleep here, then let him sleep on the sofa. There was no way he was getting into the room.

With that thought, Jiang An went to take a shower, then strutted to the fridge in her pajamas to grab so cucumber slices she had prepared earlier, completely ignoring the man sitting in the living room as she went to her room.

Gao Chuan heard a loud "bang" of the door closing behind him, which seed particularly abrupt in the quiet room.

He sighed lightly, his gaze shifting to the still lit bedroom. He glanced at it several tis before settling down on the sofa.

Perhaps due to the busyness without rest during the day, he soon felt weighed down by sleepiness, and he deeply drifted off to sleep.

...

Gao Chuan dreamt a fragnt that often haunted his mind.

It was about two and a half years ago, he had just finished a surgery in the middle of the night when he received a call from M country.

On the phone, he was told that Jiang An had a break-in, and it happened at night.

He urgently asked a few questions, but the person on the other side hemd and hawed without giving any specifics, only ntioning that the police had been called.

He rushed back to his office, stripped off his clothes, checked for the fastest flight, and flew over without stopping.

No one knew the anguish he suffered during those hours on the plane.

The man stared at the ti on his wristwatch, every minute felt like a year, he incessantly chanted Jiang An’s na in his heart.

He had already lost her once, he can’t lose her a second ti.

Upon landing, he quickly rushed to Jiang An’s residence. He knocked on Jiang An’s door for a long ti without any response and thought she might be at school. Just as he was about to go downstairs, he heard a familiar voice.

It was Jiang An chatting with the Landlady.

"An, are you okay?"

"I’m fine, I’m fine. The police have already been here, I didn’t make a sound, and they didn’t find ."

"That’s good, it’s not very safe recently..."

The woman’s feeble voice reached his ear. The man stopped in his tracks, and his heart finally settled down, he breathed a sigh of relief listening to their conversation.

A false alarm.

But this ti, he was a bit greedy. He took two steps forward, lowered his eyes, and peered down, just in ti to see Jiang An standing downstairs.

The girl seed to have just returned from school, still carrying her backpack, dressed in a thin white blouse, her face wearing a faint smile as she talked about the burglary in front of the Landlady.

It looks like she really was alright, the man finally completely relaxed.

...

That night, an autumn wind blew suddenly, the shallow silver moonlight stread through the window, filling the quiet room.

Jiang An got up from bed in the middle of the night to drink so water in the kitchen, and the thought of a big man sleeping in the living room made it hard for her to fall asleep in her own bedroom.

Feeling a chill, she walked over to close the window a bit more, walked to the sofa and saw the man lying there sound asleep, and said a silent prayer in her heart.

Turning back in the dark to her bedroom to get a blanket for the man, she ca back out to find the man on the sofa had turned over, frowning tightly with his eyes shut, his rough features creased together.

It seed he was having a nightmare, his thin lips trembling slightly.

Jiang An thought he might have gotten cold during the night, and she draped the blanket she was holding over the man, tucking it in snugly for him. Because she couldn’t hear what he was mumbled, she leaned down curiously, placing her ear near the man’s lips.

The man, still in his dream, didn’t seem to notice soone approaching, continuing to mumble softly.

The sound was so faint that Jiang An moved closer, the warm breath from the man’s lips fanned out, probably too close, as it swept up into Jiang An’s ear canal and into her mind before she could react, and the man’s warm lips lightly grazed her ear.

A flush of red swiftly crept up her ear, Jiang An hurriedly got up, her face embarrassed as she glanced at the man still not awakened, and shyly ran back to her own room.

When Jiang An lay back in bed, the mory of the soft touch lingering, she found herself unable to sleep for a long ti.

In the quiet night, only her irregular heartbeats resounded against her eardrums.

She heard it.

He was saying, Jiang An, Jiang An.
