Chapter 242 Do You Wish for to Stay?
I once traversed by moonlight, only because you were in the mountains. —— "Mountain Moon"
The night was inky dark, and the moonlight shone bright; among the vast expanse of stars, wispy clouds drifted by.
Upon receiving Jiang An’s WeChat ssage, Gao Chuan imdiately got out of the car and stood beside it. It wasn’t long before he saw a shadow dart out of a nearby villa.
Jiang An opened the front gate and walked out, scanning her surroundings. When she saw the man walking toward her, she quickened her steps to et him.
The distance between them was short, and it took only a few steps to close in on each other.
Under the enchanting moon and stars, the pale moonlight spilled around them like water, allowing them to see each other’s faces clearly.
Because she had just run down from the second floor, Jiang An’s breathing was a bit hurried. The sight of her slightly panting caught Gao Chuan’s affectionate gaze, dispelling the gloom that had settled over him in the car.
"Why co here so late while you’re still sick?" Jiang An lifted her head to et the gaze of the man before her. Through her blurred vision, she noticed that Gao Chuan’s face was not as pale as before.
Gao Chuan perceived the bla in her tone, knowing it stemd from her concern for him, and his lips curled into a faint smile.
Noticing the woman before him was still wearing a thin nightgown, he silently took off his jacket and draped it over Jiang An without answering her previous question.
It no longer mattered. He had waited for her, and now she was here, wasn’t she?
Jiang An was caught off guard by the man who had just covered her with his jacket. Without realizing it, she found herself drawing closer to Gao Chuan, feeling the warmth that lingered on his coat. She asked with concern, "Are you feeling better?"
She had left after his fever had subsided, assuming that a day’s rest would help him recover significantly.
Being a doctor himself, Gao Chuan was well aware of his own condition. The cold had co quickly and would leave just as fast. He responded lightly, "I’m better."
His dark eyes were filled with peace, entirely focused on the person before him.
Jiang An noticed he kept staring at her, having co all this way without initiating conversation. She tugged at the coat on her, sighed softly, and said, "You should’ve called when you arrived instead of just sitting in the car."
That afternoon, Secretary Chen had inford her about Gao Chuan’s foolish behavior after arriving in Lin City, and it was then that she had learned his fever was a result of coming to see her late at night.
Hearing her gentle reproach, Gao Chuan felt no displeasure; instead, a warm current quietly surged through his heart.
It was as if the seemingly pointless wait that night suddenly beca sweet.
"Your uncle... doesn’t seem to like very much." Thinking back to how he was turned away by Fang Ping, the man spoke with a touch of bitterness.
Why Fang Ping disliked him, he was well aware. If he openly arranged to et with Jiang An and Fang Ping discovered it, he feared it would put her in a difficult position between them.
Jiang An was montarily taken aback by his sowhat despondent words.
Indeed, Fang Ping had been angry about her prior experience with the Gao Family while in Jing City; it was a matter of a relative’s concern, which she couldn’t really comnt on. She and Gao Chuan’s past was revealed through Wei Yan, which might have included exaggerated details fueling Fang Ping’s disdain for Gao Chuan.
Upon reflection, she supposed any family mber would be indignant on her behalf, especially since he had once truly hurt Jiang An. Gao Chuan thought as he watched the woman in front of him struggle internally.
Jiang An didn’t know what to say for the mont, so she changed the subject and asked when Gao Chuan would return to Jing City.
When he heard her abruptly ask this, his heart felt as if it had been pierced by a thorn. A bleak emotion flickered in his eyes as he replied in a low voice, "Tomorrow."
He didn’t want to leave, but work in Jing City was pressing, and he couldn’t stay away.
Hearing his response, Jiang An showed a look of resignation and nodded, casually uttering an "Oh."
For a mont, both of them had words hidden in their hearts, yet neither spoke them aloud.
She couldn’t possibly fail to see that Gao Chuan ca to Lin City just to see her, hence these past few days of encounters, whether coincidental or deliberately planned.
Moreover, it was obvious that her heart had begun to falter.
Both of them were silent for a few seconds; the man lowered his head and quietly gazed at Jiang An, who seed to be lost in thought, and finally took the initiative to break the silence.
"Jiang An, have you decided... to stay here?"
He cared a lot about this question, and he believed that Jiang An would too.
As his voice fell, Jiang An looked up in surprise and t the eyes of Gao Chuan beside her; the man’s cold eyes suddenly rged with the night, like a tranquil and clear lake.
It was as if a stone had been dropped, and the previously calm depths of her heart started to ripple.
She thought he would never ask.
The woman blinked, slowly regained her composure, her eyes clear and bright, and asked without a rush, "Do you want to stay?"
Turning the tables.
She longed for his question, just as she longed for his answer.
Gao Chuan, hearing the woman throw the question back at him, saw his deep eyes slowly dim, his expression briefly frozen, and his gaze drifted into a mont of absence.
Of course, he eagerly hoped she would stay in Jing City, stay by his side.
But what right did she have to give up her family in Lin City for him?
Just like four years ago, when she silently gave up the opportunity to study abroad for him, changing her life trajectory entirely for him.
This ti, how could he selfishly ask her to sacrifice for him again?
Gao Chuan’s emotions surged, and facing the woman’s question, he hesitated to speak; Jiang An looked up at the silent man before her, her heart sinking.
So for him, was it that he couldn’t bring himself to say it, or did he never think about keeping her?
She was almost tired of this suffocating silence, tired of the man’s ever-inscrutable thoughts.
"Forget it, you should head back," Jiang An said indignantly, ready to step away from Gao Chuan’s sight.
In the mont she turned, she was suddenly embraced from behind by the man; Gao Chuan had already reached out to encircle her, slightly bent over to bury his head in her shoulder, his warm breath unexpectedly sprayed on her neck, causing her heartbeat to accelerate.
At the sa ti, his muffled voice followed.
He said, "Jiang An, wherever you are, there I will be."
Regardless of Lin City or Jing City, as long as it was her choice, he would do everything possible to stay by her side.
He would never let her go again.
Through the thick coat, Jiang An felt the man’s cool breath, and her face flushed red.
"You..." She was about to speak when suddenly, Fang Mo’s voice ca from not too far away, "Sis!"
Jiang An reflexively struggled out of the man’s embrace, frantically took off the coat on her body, and handed it to the man, "You should hurry back, my brother is coming out to find ."
The woman then ran away hastily, leaving Gao Chuan standing alone by the car, he looked down at the coat in his hands, paused for a few seconds, and then put it back on himself.
It had her scent.
