Chapter 148: Gossip in the Hospital
Jiang An has been busy with the recent assessnt for the past few days, only slightly relieved after submitting her thesis and stepping out of the departnt head’s office. Right then, she bumped into another intern, Song Ya, who also ca to submit her thesis. They agreed to go eat together.
On the way, Song Ya shared her plan to work in a private hospital after her internship, following her parents’ wishes. Jiang An rembered that Song Ya had ntioned this briefly at their last gathering. As an outsider, she didn’t feel it was her place to comnt.
"The atmosphere here is quite good, though," Song Ya mused with a sense of rembrance after finding a spot to sit down following their al pickup. She had been here for two months and had indeed grown attached.
"Don’t be fooled by Dr. Liu’s stern exterior towards us. I can actually tell he’s warm inside." It seed like the decision to leave initiated a stronger attachnt, and Song Ya and Jiang An comnded their ntor, while the girl listened attentively.
"Do you know the latest gossip discussed in our departnt?" Song Ya asked as she noticed Jiang An silently eating with no conversation. She wanted to bring up sothing that might interest the girl.
Although they had only been acquainting for two months and weren’t very close, Jiang An gave off a comfortable vibe, not as scheming as other interns in the sa office. She often ca to chat with Jiang An.
As Song Ya expected, Jiang An looked confused and raised her head, not understanding what was being discussed.
Looking around and confirming there were no other departnt mbers nearby, Song Ya leaned closer and whispered, "You might not know this, but Dr. Song and Dr. Gao are together."
The gossip expression was evident on her face, and although her voice was low, it clearly reached Jiang An’s ears. Hearing Dr. Gao and Dr. Song ntioned together, Jiang An showed a shocked look, nearly dropping her chopsticks.
Seeing Jiang An’s surprised expression, Song Ya pursed her lips, "I overheard two nurses during my night shift yesterday. They said the two were boyfriend and girlfriend in university, and Dr. Song ca to City Hospital just for Dr. Gao."
Song Ya’s face was all curious, though the news hadn’t spread in the departnt yet. But considering Song Xin’s assertive deanor, it was not hard to guess.
Jiang An was struck, a hint of daydream flashing in her eyes as she adjusted her chopsticks and forced a smile, avoiding eye contact with Song Ya, "That can’t be right, they must be spreading rumors."
There were always so gossipers in the departnt leading to hearsay, likely because the two were seen together often, Jiang An thought.
But Song Ya appeared very certain, quickly dismissing Jiang An’s doubts, "No, it’s true, Dr. Song herself confird it."
"But you know, probably only Dr. Song would be a good match for Dr. Gao. Both are so talented and good-looking, I’m really envious," Song Ya murmured dreamily.
Though not in the departnt for long, Song Ya had heard so rumors about Dr. Gao and noted his reserved nature. Now, hearing this particular gossip about Dr. Gao truly was surprising.
Seeing Jiang An still half-doubtful, Song Ya raised an eyebrow, reflecting to herself, "But Dr. Gao really does fit my taste in looks, just too indifferent though."
"Maybe he’s just indifferent to us, not towards Dr. Song, haha."
The words drifted past her ears, but Jiang An had already tuned them out, her mind replaying over and over the conversation with Song Ya, a shadow of worry crossing her face.
Dr. Gao and Dr. Song? Are they together?
They were just ordinary university classmates, and Dr. Gao was supposed to be with her, not romantically involved with Dr. Song.
Though initially dismissive, her mind uncontrollably conjured the image of Song Xin and Gao Chuan sharing a al together recently.
Their familiar interaction, so natural...
The more she thought, the more Jiang An interrupted her train of thoughts, forcing herself to stop thinking about it.
It could just be gossip from a nosy nurse.
After all, last night the man had slept right by her side.
Song Ya watched the girl daydreaming and raised a hand in front of her to shake her out of it, reminding, "What are you thinking about!"
Jiang An was then brought back to reality, shook her head, and continued to eat her set al, saying, "Nothing much."
Afterwards, they continued to chat for a while, Jiang An had no intention of dwelling on the matter again, but she had already beco absent-minded and started daydreaming.
After a long ti, they finally finished eating and parted at the cafeteria entrance. Jiang An intended to take a stroll near the hospital during her lunch break when her cell phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket. Upon checking the ssage, she realized Dr. Gao had just sent it.
Gao Chuan: Wednesday.
It was only seeing those brief two words that Jiang An suddenly rembered the agreent they had made; she had almost forgotten if it wasn’t for Dr. Gao’s WeChat ssage.
Wednesday, they had agreed to et in his office.
The girl turned around and went back upstairs, her mood finally alleviated after seeing the man’s ssage, which had been sowhat irritated by Song Ya’s words.
The elevator ascended, and Jiang An made her way to Gao Chuan’s office, finding no one around for the mont. To be safe, she still knocked on the door first.
A few seconds later, a figure ca over to personally open the door for her, and Jiang An was pulled in by the man before he closed the door behind them.
The actions were silently subtle, suggestive of a secret eting.
"Only twenty minutes left," said Jiang An as the first thing upon entering, looking at her watch, as the lunch with Xia Zi took longer today and delayed her considerably.
The precious fleeting monts of their date were harshly squeezed.
Gao Chuan imdiately took the girl and sat her down on a chair, his eyebrows almost imperceptibly furrowed as he heard her softly remind him of their limited ti.
"How about coming here for lunch on Wednesdays from now on?" the man tenderly suggested, straightening the loose strands of hair beside the girl’s cheeks.
Jiang An couldn’t help but burst out laughing at what the man said, her previously somber mood instantly evaporated, as she reached out to hook her arms around the man’s neck.
She had never realized before how fully Dr. Gao epitomized the phrase "give him an inch and he’ll take a mile."
"No," she shook her head in refusal, suddenly feeling that all those rumors had instantly dissipated.
Gao Chuan listened to Jiang An’s unreserved rejection and kept quiet, clearly understanding what Jiang An was concerned about.
Before he could argue, Jiang An leaned in close and gently nibbled on his earlobe, her provocative voice so near.
"I’ll make it up to Dr. Gao tonight."
The man sitting in the chair holding the girl felt his ears imdiately turn red and a fire ignited in his heart.
Seductress.
A deadly seductress.
She won’t escape tonight.
